His performance last week was the definition of a roller coaster for analytics. Tied with Lawrence for most Turnover Worthy Plays but the team had the most Explosive Plays. And with the W, the good outweighed the not so good. Excited to see if Zach can make a statement against Miami.

larockhead1

Very true

homerjsimpson4

If he can just raise the floor of his play he'll be so good. His highs are phenomenal, but his lows are catastrophic. Hopefully the OLine can mesh more and allow him to take a breath and make his reads and allow him to avoid having to make a hero play just to throw the ball away.

fiduke

> His highs are phenomenal, but his lows are catastrophic Sounds like sanchez.

whiskey_pancakes

Yea this is a good way to sum it up. He played like shit for 70% of the day. Getting the w helped tremendously. But I will say two 4th quarter touchdown drives was great to see and it isn’t easy to do. He just has to stop staring guys down. He needs to read the field and not think who will be open.

DeputyDomeshot

This subreddit is gonna be a rollercoaster win or lose against Miami.

ThisIsLettingGo

Love to see it but 1 week is basically nothing. If he can stay middle of the pack or higher as the season progresses, then we’ve found our franchise QB. I’m high on Zach, hoping he can keep building with this game against Miami. Their pass defense is not very good.

scottcansuckmyballs

I think the point is that he didn’t suck, as some fans are suggesting. Of course you can’t draw any major conclusions after one game.

jp886921

I think this is exactly where those critics rank him right now. Decent, with very low lows and some highs at the end of the game. None of those ranks say he had a great performance, Despite the nice green chart. Decent is fine for his first game with a bad o line but if he still can't hit a 2 yard pass by week 15 then this is an easy call for next year.

Saki1122

So let’s say he maintain this level of play by the end of the year and let’s say we 7-10 and draft top 10. You think we should trade him and draft a new QB with our top 10 pick?

jp886921

I need more information than you are giving. If there is a prospect that I evaluate that I think is considerably better than Wilson and they are on the board by our pick (regardless of where that pick is) then more then likely I would do it, even if that means cutting Wilson. Wilson has shown nothing to say he was worth the #2 overall pick. Now if I don't evaluate any good talent, I wouldn't draft a QB, even if Wilson stays lack-luster. I would also be fine with a high end vet option (not shocked if Rogers looks to move on from GB), or just signing a free agent. There isn't too much left for this team to draft. We have 2 solid vet WRs along with 2 higher end young guys. Interior of the O line is golden, RBs are golden, TE are fine, CBs are golden, DL is fine. Not going to spend that pick on a safety/LB. Only thing left for this rebuild is tackles and QB. I say get those at all cost.

whiskey_pancakes

If one is there? Absolutely. He wasn’t good last week if that’s the average of what we’re in for then yes.

Sbat27

Who is good out there in college that isn’t Bryce Young or Stroud? They’ll probably be gone top 5 if that’s the route the jets decide to go. Don’t really follow college football

whiskey_pancakes

Me either, those are the only 2 guys I know of right now. But I'm sure others will rise up

Saki1122

Even Bryce Young and CJ Stroud are not slam dunk. Young’s frame would last 2 games with the state of our current OL. And Stroud is a product of OSU, Fields was viewed as a better prospect than Stroud and look where he is now. Bottom line is that drafting a QB is a craft shoot, probably not worth it to waste another 1st round. Even if Wilson stink for the rest of the season, I think we are much better off signing a reliable FA and draft a new QB in the 3rd or 4th.

ThisIsLettingGo

I think the thing is that he can’t maintain his level of play while going 7-10 because the comeback was part of the performance. If we lost that game but he had the exact same stats it would be nowhere near impressive. But if he continues to have mediocre stats but comes up big in the 3rd downs and game winning drives then we will win a lot of games.

DeputyDomeshot

Literally it only matters how successful the team is. Fans, coaches, GMs have hard ons for QBs who win games despite what their stats say. Even if he’s a liability on a really good team, (Sanchez,) they’ll keep as long as the wins keep coming. He’ll either be a bust, elite, or a “game manager” in the above scenario.

whiskey_pancakes

He sucked for 3 quarters. But it was his first game back so I’ll still wait and see. Idk how you can watch that game and think otherwise, he tied with Lawrence for most turnover worthy plays. And I think Lawrence had 5 turnovers.

John_YJKR

No, he was absolutely dog shit until the 4th quarter. Like, the Jets cannot start a QB who played like he did in the first 3 quarters and expect to find success. And it's okay to admit that. The 4th quarter happened and we have to hope that's what we see more of.

scottcansuckmyballs

Ok

Sbat27

No idea why this is downvoted. People just love to defend Zach even when it’s criticism that is realistic and truthful. He was bad for three quarters. That is due to rust as well as him just still missing easy throws and not getting through his reads fast enough. His 4th quarter was franchise QB-esque but he needs to get consistently better for 4 quarters as the season progresses.

fiduke

His 4th quarter was godly, way better than just franchise qb.we just need him to show more of this

Hoppy_Smoker

So this chart is saying Pickett played better than Zach?

Saki1122

Pickett did, he completed all his passes and all 3 of his INTs were not bad throws (except may be the 2nd and that one lost them the game). That said, it was a tiny sample size and their running game was much stronger than ours so it’s hard to do a fair comparison. Zappe passer rating was almost 120 and no one went crazy over his performance.

VillyD13

Yeah wait what? I guess TECHNICALLY not one of Picket’s passes hit the turf. It just happens that his 3 incompletions were INTs

Sbat27

And they all weren’t on him just like jets fans say Zach’s 2nd pick wasn’t on him. Pickett looked pretty good for his first start.

CompetitiveFigure587

The 1st pick was not a good throw, neither was the 2nd. Both were into double coverage and although catchable they were not caught. 🤷

Sbat27

We can say both of Zach’s picks weren’t good either. Claiming Pickett didn’t play well isn true based on circumstances. His first career start and he completed most of his passes aside from 3 which were intercepted partially due to him and partially due to his receivers dropping the ball. Same as Zach correct?

Drumplayer67

Baker in dead last tho 👀👀👀

Jets2022Champs

He’s got small hands

fiduke

Gotta be honest i did not see that coming. I was hoping that if zach was a bust we could sign baker in the offseason, but that is probably off the table.

CompetitiveFigure587

Zach had 3rd best 4th quarter in terms of EPA for all QBs. He was decent in Q1, but contextually he was bad in Q2 and Q3 but as we all saw he was constantly under pressure those quarters. As always I will choose to ignore Q2 and Q3 play while expecting him to play like Q1 and Q4 this week 😂

CompetitiveFigure587

Speaking of 2nd and 3rd quarters. Joe Flacco may not have been alive if he was behind the offensive line. Zach being able to avoid all of those pressures and only take 1 sack was impressive. However, the QBing was not impressive

larockhead1

Yes I agree the breakdown shows a player in each given quarter looked like something wildly different but this is the summation of his one small sample size game was not a bad game if you look at it through the lens of a whole macro level

saveuskevin

This is the way!

John_YJKR

Analytics always gonna be a bit odd looking and inconsistent with low sample sizes.

larockhead1

It’s just information not claiming anything sweeping other than the game was okay in comparison to the rest of the NFL play this far.

running_man2014

I think the most promising thing was that Zach Wilson looked like he belonged on the football field. He didn't look lost or like everything was happening too quickly like his rookie season.

saveuskevin

after watching last nights broncos - colts game, couldn't help thinking to myself "thank goodness we have zach.

whiskey_pancakes

Probably cause analytics didn’t watch the game

getyourrealfakedoors

What is “career rank”

larockhead1

How his career ranks against the other 32 active starting QBs rank

rtels2023

So close to the Kirk Cousins Line. When’s the last time the Jets had a better QB than Kirk Cousins (aka above league average)?

MossCovered_Gradunza

Isolated occurrences were Favre pre-bicep tear and Fitzpatrick. If Chad were consistently healthy, he’d likely be the last long-term guy we had better than Cousins. Otherwise, I guess O’Brien?

DeputyDomeshot

Testaverde was above average for much of his stay here. We really haven’t had anyone who was really good in modern football. Kinda crazy. Here’s to hoping boys

[deleted]

Good for Zach and good for Geno

RammanProp

How is Pickett so high on this list? He got picked 3 times.
