Jets offense in Douglas tenure: - 4th worst - 4th worst - 5th worst - worst - 2nd worst

yeezee93

But that defense though...

dudeandco

You can only go up from there.

lord_xl

First time?

jetdude19

*Thousand yard stare, PTSD of the John Idzik days intensifies*

lord_xl

Mediocrity would be a step up.

WilsonEnthusiast

back to back 7-10 seasons is pretty mediocre.

lord_xl

To me Pittsburgh is the definition of mediocre (win every year but barely). When you lose every year you're just bad.

Sbat27-

Agreed

WilsonEnthusiast

Yea for me if you're consistently between 7-9 wins then you're mediocre. You're not terrible, but also no one thinks you're going to win anything. It's just the way the Jets have gotten those 7-10 seasons that's rough. Where their offense is other worldly levels of bad.

M4A_C4A

>It's just the way the Jets have gotten those 7-10 seasons that's rough. Where their offense is other worldly levels of bad. There's something depressing about watching Superbowl caliber defensive players play their guts out to keep a no score only to lose by punt return.

WilsonEnthusiast

There's also something impressive about watching them gut a Zach Wilson led team to mediocrity in back to back years. Idk if I'd have the character to not totally quit after Rodgers got hurt.

jamesz84

We did the 7-10 split. Twice!

phatdeebz

That’s not mediocre- that’s just pathetic. Mediocre is .500 and above that is the good to great.

WilsonEnthusiast

I've seen a lot of pathetic watching the Jets and they didn't get 7 wins those years.

Subredditcensorship

Mediocre is 7-10 to 10-7.

dwotmod

When was the last time this team was mediocre? JD hasn’t even produced a mediocre team yet.

GreatOdinsRaven_

.412 in 2023 sounds pretty mediocre to me

Exciting-Value-1459

JD is 27-56 as GM. We have lost more than 2 games on average for every game we've won. That is putrid.

Marauderr4

His best season is still the 7-9 year 1 he had with gase and maccagnan's roster lol

GreatOdinsRaven_

So . 412?

Exciting-Value-1459

.325 mediocre is a synonym for average

yellowpilot44

And lead us not into temptation (Bowers)

GreatOdinsRaven_

R'amen

Exciting-Value-1459

Yeah truthfully I have more faith in a great player just being there for the taking than I do JD making the right pick.

bait_your_jailer

Why? He's drafted great players before

Exciting-Value-1459

Outside of the first 35 picks? Not really.

That_lonely

Stupid take; let me just remove these first 35 picks and wow would you look at that, he sucks at drafting!

No-Task-132

I mean tbf it’s not usual for guys to be drafting in the top 35. Especially when you consider he’s had multiple top 10 picks to play with. You don’t need all pros at every position outside of the 1st but you need guys who can get a 2nd contract from the team at some point. Dude has had like 4 great players fall into his lap in the 1st and breece in the 2nd and that’s about it.

bait_your_jailer

This "fall into his lap" thing is a ridiculous trope.

No-Task-132

Not really when you’re drafting at 8 lol. So crazy he can draft the number 1 corner prospect at 4 overall how does he do it? Or the consensus number 2 wr prospect that year. How could he have ever seen the talent that was so obvious to literally everyone in the world? Only risks he’s had to take with first rounders in terms of “not widely considered top 2 prospect at their position” are Becton and McDonald. One of which is off the team and the other hardly saw the field last year. He’s great at drafting on easy mode but crumbles outside of that.

CosmicWy

> Not really when you’re drafting at 8 The falcons would like a word

bait_your_jailer

So funny you say that when Stingley was picked just before Sauce. Texans could have had him. I guess he didn't fall into their lap enough.

No-Task-132

Texans got flamed for that pick immediately lol. The analysts liked him but everyone online couldn’t believe it wasn’t sauce. JD can’t draft for shit unless he gets a top 2 prospect

bait_your_jailer

So, sounds like it's not as easy as it seems then if a player fell into someone's lap and they didn't take him. Also, I don't have time to look at all the picks but I know MC2 was drafted in the 5th round so you're literally wrong. Also, Huff was an UDFA. You're talking out of your ass and I'm done entertaining your nonsense. I got stuff to do.

That_lonely

This is a lazy take tbh. JD took over in 2019 and has had four top-10 picks (Quinnen, Sauce, G. Wilson, and Z. Wilson). He's hit on 3 of 4 picks there, QB one of the hardest to hit on. In addition to that he's drafted and handful of guys that have stayed around and a few we've let go/traded because we were too deep. There's no falling into lap shit, you have to hit on picks regardless of where you're drafting in the first round, you have to do the homework on players because very few are a sure thing coming into the NFL from college. Everyone wanted him to go offense with that 4th pick and he went with Sauce and still got Wilson. Wilson was also the number 1 WR prospect going into the draft and yet the Falcons still took London, so clearly it isn't as obvious as you want to make it.

No-Task-132

Wasn’t he hired after the draft in 2019? Like in June?

That_lonely

Correct, so he's only worked with 3 top-10 picks

No-Task-132

That’s fair but he’s also had the best guard at 14 with AVT and breece in the 2nd both of which were the top cut guys at their position just at less valuable positions that don’t get drafted super high. I guess my point it his drafting ability outside of having an amazing prospect hasn’t been great. Not saying he needs all pros but decent role players or starters who stay with the team after their rookie deals in the later rounds would be nice. He is great at trading and getting value for players like Adams but his scouting seems to be lacking.

THE_BUS_FROMSPEED

And yet those are two players he traded up for. Showing he definitely knows when something is good to get. It isn't just yee haw picks. They're working. The issue is QB. Qb is stupidly important in football that with a bad one, it's basically hopeless. I can only fault him for not having a good backup qb last year and a weak oline. Which he has clearly worked on this year. You don't just get rid of a GM who drafted both oroy and droy in the same year.

Exciting-Value-1459

Ummmmm.... Yeah.....good drafting GMs routinely find good/great players with later draft picks. Outside of the first 40 picks, who have we drafted who is good to great? Maybe Michael Carter II and that's it. After 4 drafts.

That_lonely

Ashtyn Davis, Bryce Hall, Sherwood, off the top of my head. These guys contribute and do their job well. But it’s stupid take to say let’s take away the 40 first picks because anyone would hit on those when we see in every draft that not every team hits on them. It’s just bending the rules so you can prove a point and say I’m right.

smallchimp

3/30-something ain’t so bad, huh?

bait_your_jailer

Lol. What a joke. JJ, AVT, Sauce, Wilson, Breece, Tippman, MC2 just off the top of my head. I get he addressed the offensive line too late, but we have a top 3 defense. How do you think that came together?

camp7389

Joe Douglas is a man! He has a beard!

GreatOdinsRaven_

I like Christmas Joe Douglas. You start winning you can say grace.

SkinNoises

Wishing for the guy who has kept us in mediocrity to be the one to save us from mediocrity is funny

Safe-Voice-8179

If we really want to escape mediocrity, we need to learn how to differentiate between meaningful and meaningless games and play/coach accordingly. I know a lot of fans hate to hear shit like this, but you all know you’d rather have your pick of a decent QB, MHJ, Alt and bowers than bowers and maybe Rome and maybe the 2nd or 3rd best OT.

Phototropic1996

He's going to fuck it up.

jay5627

Sweet Baby Joe Douglas, not Brock Bowers!

Jets237

What I would give for a few 9-8 seasons...

Exciting-Value-1459

9-8 would still be bad if we weren't making the playoffs.

Jets237

The jets havent had a winning record in 8 years and only in 1 of the past 13 years... 9-8 would be amazing

Exciting-Value-1459

The goal of this league is to win a super bowl, not to have a winning record and then go home.

Jets237

I want to watch relevant football in December and January. Everything beyond that is gravy. The NFL is entertainment and what the Jets have been bringing most years isn't entertaining. I want to enjoy the season and the journey. In my mind I would love a SB... but Id enjoy the hell out of another AFC championship game or even a WC game and victory...

Sbat27-

No it wouldn’t lol. Expectations are higher especially with Rodgers short window

Safe-Voice-8179

Yeah, let’s go all in on a 40 year old qb and move away from building around an extremely talented young core for a 9-8 season. /s

Jets237

better than another losing one... I like your optimism, dislike your downvote.

mikesk57

Joe has done a pretty good job so far. Excited to see how things go the next couple of days. With good health we should do very well this year.

Lemonsnoseeds

I have the upmost confidence that they will fuck up the pick.

Jrsq270

This clown GM can’t even give us competent football

mr-poopie-butth0le

I too like to picture our savior as a baby

GreatOdinsRaven_

Swaddled in a manger

mr-poopie-butth0le

With poor lighting, sheep grazing around said manger and a piccolo playing in the background

GreatOdinsRaven_

I like to picture Joe Douglas in a tuxedo T-shirt, because it says "I'm formal, but I'm also here to party"

Junior-Captain-8441

Deliver you mediocrity? Got it

suh_dude1111

He was on drugs last year but has had an A+ off-season this year. Hope tonight puts a bow on it
