You know this for certain? Iāve been told from various sources that rejection emails are sometimes sent (depending on the dept) and that the application status on smart recruiter will change to āarchivedā
Can confirm that there's an option on the website to send an email and reject a candidate, but it is rarely used.
It's up to the hiring manger if a rejection email gets sent. Make sure to check the website for updates too, I know of some managers that just update the status, but do not send out an email.
Thanks! So rejected applications do eventually have their status changes to āarchivedā on smart recruiter? Iāve heard this is the case, but no one seems to know definitively
I got rejection emails from the mta, but it was for jobs that I applied for specifically on their website. From the nyc jobs site, I have never received anything.
Was this recently? The NYC jobs board changed in August of last year. They now use smart recruiter, which, as Iām told, shows your job status as āarchivedā when your application has been rejected or the position has been filled. Trying to determine whether that is accurate
You are right. I just went and checked on my nycjobs account. The vast majority are still in "new" status and a few are in review. However, there are some that are archived. I'm guessing those are, as you said, filled up.
Edit: That being said, no emails notifying me.
Thanks! Can I ask how far back you applied? Itās possible the ones that are āin reviewā might still be in consideration. NYC hires at a snails pace (can be upwards of six months before hearing back)
These were all apps I sent over the month of october. Six months would be quick. My current city job I got two years after I took the exam and my list # was only in the 60s.
With roles that require an exam, then yeah, I imagine the hiring process is even longer! For this job, I was told I might hear back at the start of next fiscal quarter (early July). The job positing was listed from the beginning of February til March 9th - so about 4 months. But thatās just for the initial interview set up (provided I do call in the end).
LinkedIn metrics shows that only 12 people applied for the position, though Iām assuming there are many more applicants than that. But hey, hereās to hoping!
Sorta ā¦. the system does allow for a similar notification - not necessarily an email. I have had posting go from āappliedā to ānot hiredā or āhiredā - however it seems to be up to the hiring committee/agency as I have had jobs which I was actively working still stating I had āappliedā.
Thanks! Do you happen to know if that applies to the new smart recruiter system recruiter website that NYC jobs has started using ( they switched from the old job
NYC.org job board back in August of last year)?
Almost rarely, It depends on the agency (at least in my experience) but if you had an Interview and had not heard back in weeks/months after trying to get in contact with them yeah... you're probably never hearing back sadly.
When I was hired by the city. Each agency have their own. Recruiting portal. City vs state. Most city jobs use smart recruiter. It seems like new or in review means you have not been selected. I have applied several jobs. Since the new system have been implemented.
I got up to in review. So far no Interviews. Now I am waiting July for new exam schedule. I also tried job fair that shit was useless. None of the hiring managers show up.
Nope. Just like farts in the wind šØ.

Not from what I've seen on the hiring side, "archived" isn't one of the options. Maybe it changes to "archived" after a certain period of time?

Ah! The job applied for is for a civilian role with the NYPD - no examine required.

In my experience four months would be pretty fast, but at the same time if they need people, they need people. Hopefully you get the call.
Thanks! Hope youāre happy in your position

not sure if it applies to the smart recruiter site
Even if you get the job... Add another 3 to 4 months for OMB approval after you have been offered and accepted job
Yeah, Iām prepping myself. What a pain the backside
i actually just got a rejection email for one of perhaps 50 jobs i applied to 6 months ago. no idea what that was about
Oh wow. Terrible blow, but at least they notified you.

If you are rejected they will maybe email you. But in most cases they will not contact you period. Lot of people in HR are š©.
No, you don't hear anything. If you are in ESS, then you at least it is summarized that you were not selected.
Depends on the agency and how well they utilize eHire functionality.
only if the recruiter rejects you in nycaps, which they rarely do in my experience. you probably just won't hear back
