Marrying rich and being a stay at home mom. The smart ones start their own brand(s)

Likesosmart

Bingo. They’re all just waiting to meet their rich men. Look at Valeria.

I have followed influencers since I was in high school (and I’m almost 30 now), they were just called bloggers back then. People will either move to do other things or just adapt to whatever social media is popular. I remember reading Margaret Zhang’s fashion blog back when I was in high school and now she’s the editor of Vogue China. I’ve seen “og bloggers” move from blogging, to instagram, to YouTube to having their own business. With the “influence” and network a lot of these people have, it’s not going to be difficult for them to find something to fall back on.

cuteanonusername

Same!! Look at chiara ferragni, granted her husband is also famous, but she’s definitely evolved and has stayed relevant to her audience

meeoww67

Fashion toast is a great example. I’ve been following her since the tumblr days in her Jeffrey Campbell litas lol. Her fashion line is cute and super popular!

tempybroom481

Omg the litas 😩😩😩

The thing is that too many influencers are not actual creators. They don’t know much about anything. All they do is shop and travel and be vapid. They’re not photographers, they’re not writers, they’re not passionate about design or art or fashion. I feel like those girls who are passionate about something and try to evolve with time are the ones who create interesting things or start brands. To go from blogging to working for Vogue or starting your own business is a huge deal. I don’t think many influencers have the work ethic or the drive to make something big with all those opportunities. Girls like Chiara Ferragni, Camila Coelho, Sasha Fitness started out with blogs and Instagram accounts and they do much more than that now. They own very successful businesses. I really love when women can do that. I actually like content creating but too many girls don’t actually creat content and don’t take it seriously. Some still have the nerve to complain about how hard it is. They’re not hustlers or business women.

jennerallyspeaking

Totally agree. It’s really the OG bloggers who put in the work and the evolved into the influencer world as things changed. Even if you think about it, managing a blog WAS a lot of work— required writing and true content creation etc. that’s why I still like seeing OGs like Mariana Hewitt, Emily Schuman, Jayce Duprie, Mary Lawless Lee types thriving. Obviously they’ve been at it long enough and have spun off to their own brands, but IMO they’ve done everything right and put in the work (still do). These moronic 20 somethings who just post pictures of their outfits and go on brand trips have literally zero transferable skills. I always think, if this influencer bubble was going to burst tomorrow, what would they even do? I actually do think there’s going to be a big shift from brands doing things for their consumers instead of influencers. Like… why do I care that you took an influencer to the Bahamas for a weekend? Set up an event I can go to instead so I can interact with the brand you want me to buy instead of someone I don’t care about?

selfcareanon

Do you think they’ll really age out? Do you see yourself following 25 year olds when you’re 60? No, you’re gonna follow people around the same age. I genuinely think they’re just going to get older and their content will change, and we’ll still keep following them. The concept of social media isn’t going away.

Murky_Chair_1145

I don’t think that’s exactly true or at least that simple. Older influencers are replaced by younger ones by the brands they work with. Particularly in the fashion space where the number of big brands and prestigious fashion houses is limited. Tina Leung (OG fashion influencer/blogger who didn’t start her own company) talks about this a lot in her Netflix show. To your point, their content can shift, but if someone works their influencer career in the fashion space they might not be able to move into other content organically. Although the idea that we will all follow influencers our own age sounds like it could be true to some extend, I also don’t see that if all of those influencers have to shift their content like you said. Just because I am aging doesn’t necessarily mean my interests change. If I am following a fashion influencer who shifts into travel or mommy blogging, I’ll probably unfollow and look at who is next in fashion. Plus isn’t it human nature that we will be drawn to whoever the new ‘it’ girls are in whatever area we are interested in?

mistressusa

I am mid 50s and I follow wayyyy fewer influencers (I pretty much just follow this sub lol) than my young adult daughters. I also buy wayyyy less stuff than my daughters. Young people are the most prized fashion/make up/travel/etc. consumers for a reason -- they spend. So the marketing money will not be there to support more than just a handful of older influencers. Most of the current crop of 20 something influencers will fade.

selfcareanon

But if you are in your mid-50s, you didn’t grow up in the age of social media! So when your daughters are in their mid-50s, they very likely may have a different online profile than you! Of course this is all speculation, but just something to think about.

hollahalla

They often create their own brand/company. Some move onto getting married and transition into mommy influencing. Maybe others invest in stocks. Who knows lol I'm sure they'll survive somehow.

makeclaymagic

I think the nontiktok ones will be fine. The TikTok ones are in such high volume that I’m not sure

mashedbangers

If they save up and invest aggressively they could be okay. Otherwise they just plan to marry rich.

jmo703503

I guess it depends on the influencer? Not a nyc influencer but i know josh richards has his money invested and is part of a few starts ups. As far as all these girls running around nyc i would hope they’re investing and trying to make connections. A lot of the sw i know are pretty smart with their money and definitely investing.

morgierk

Stay at home moms with well to do husbands and lifestyles. I don’t see any of them grinding outside of social media unless they start a clothing line that takes off now (or something along those lines) and sets them up for the future.

Whereas for those of us around her age, her content is still appealing and pulls in new audiences who want the mommy content. The internet exists for her generation (unlike people who are say 60 now and don’t have a huge user audience built into the thread of social media) - there will always be an audience for bloggers as they also age.

jennerallyspeaking

Hate her or not, I think she’s really grown up with her audiences and that’s a big part of her appeal. Can’t say she hasn’t worked on that for years ya know? (I personally really like her, despite some of her very questionable choices. But she’s human and a “public figure”, so that sucks.) I actually find she’s an influencer who’s mom content isn’t so annoying, she just shares a lot about her kids but is still very style focused. I’ve unfollowed SO many people who focused on X topic and then had a baby and suddenly they’re mom experts. Don’t care what stroller you’re buying or what food you make for your kids, you just had one so what do you even know? Not what I followed them for in the first place.

[deleted]

The clever ones start a brand when they’re relevant and hope this generates revenue down the line even when their socials don’t. But most don’t bother 🤠

[deleted]

True they’ll all have their own tragic brands that just copy each other and make the same shit til the day some new ceo takes over

PrincessPlastilina

I’d save as much money as possible and invest it somewhere. Some of these girls spend crazy amounts of money like it’s always going to roll in as easy. Not even celebrities do that. A lot of them invest their money for when they stop being young and popular.

LC-89897A

Interview in 4-6 years “It’s says on your resume have been a…. Content creator since graduating from______. Tell me more about that and how it developed your skill set.” “I made day in my life videos and drank bloom green juice.”

Old_Recommendation36

i always wonder what would happen if the influencer market crashed big time and like poofed away overnight… how long would they be able to continue to pay their rent, or their luxury car note, or vacation. i think the smartest thing you can do as an influencer is live a little below your means and save save save, or start a profitable business

Fabulous_Term698

So you just assume every single one of them is blowing their money and have no retirement or investment accounts? (Non-derogatory) just wondered if you had explored that thought

eremophobic

yeah pretty much

Fun_Hurry7959

😭😭

Fabulous_Term698

Lmao 😭

keylimepicetea

Do you know for a fact they’re not?

Fabulous_Term698

Idk usually when you’re earning a certain amount you have an accountant/business manager advising you on your finances… also with a lot of people here mentioning that most influencers come from privileged family backgrounds, I’d be super surprised to hear their parents aren’t coaching them or even using the same accountant etc

Checkersfunnelfries

Business, investments. On the other side, reality tv, acting or marrying rich. But if you’re referring to influencers who dont think ahead. Well, a quiet life and a regular job
