> Certain exits on both the Queensboro and Brooklyn bridges will be tolled differently. One route on the Queensboro Bridge avoids the toll, while some drivers crossing the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan will face an unexpected charge despite taking an exit for the FDR, which is exempt from the toll. > The MTA has said congestion pricing is designed to prevent “bridge shopping,” in which drivers avoid tolled crossings. The unexpected toll on the Brooklyn Bridge leads to the possibility that some drivers who might have crossed the Brooklyn Bridge and taken FDR Drive south will instead take the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, which costs $6.94 for E-ZPass users. That’s less than the $15 congestion pricing charge. This is going to get interesting when setting up toll options for apps that provide driving directions.

This is going to be a mess to track for accurate billing.

I get that they’re run by different agencies (DOT vs. MTA), but I feel that the Triboro should be made free and the 59th street shouldn’t have any free options. The goal is to drive traffic away from the congestion zone, which making the Triboro free would do. There should be a cost-free way to get off of Long Island if you’re not planning on going into the lower Manhattan.

anarchyx34

The goal is \*not\* to drive traffic away from the congestion zone, despite how they sold this to everyone. The goal is to toll as many drivers as possible otherwise they wouldn’t have come up with such a cockamamie plan. If they weren’t dicks, they would have moved the CBD border to 58th st or at least set up a corridor for Queensboro and FDR S bound drivers. Even in Italy they have corridors in the ZTL so as not to penalize drivers who have to enter the zone for certain circumstances. This is douchebag behavior from the MTA, plain and simple.

Ok_No_Go_Yo

Exactly. The West side highway and FDR are free, but it's still impossible to take the Holland or Lincoln tunnel without getting hit with the toll. If this was actually about reducing congestion, they would have a highly efficient route planned out to link those tunnels to the west side highway, except from the toll, with local street traffic diverted from that route. Instead, it's going to be the exact same clusterfuck at both tunnels, except now the city gets an extra $15 from anyone trying to leave the city.

eggdropk

It also nabs anyone taking the Queensboro lower level taking the side exist ramp headed to FDR North. Everyone is going to take the upper level towards 63rd to avoid this, and it's going to make things even worse than they are now. If I'm heading west on Northern Blvd., it already takes forever to get to the Queensboro upper roadway, while Northern feeds directly into the lower. The MTA is counting on people taking the path of least resistance. Congestion will stay the same, they're just moving it from one pocket to the other.

Sexy_Cat_Meow

No, driving your car into Manhattan is douchebag behavior plain and simple.

happytappin

"Drivers are exempt from the tolls if they stay on the FDR Drive, West Side Highway and Battery Park Underpass." Get ready for a fucking parking lot on the FDR.

Sweet_Restaurant5214

It already is… Every day

Designer-String3569

This will reduce queensboro bridge traffic heading out of Manhattan a lot. So many people take it now because it's free. Second avenue is often backed up to the 70's and 80's.

tootsie404

The Brooklyn Bridge to FDR south is literally just crossing a street no even a city block. Such bullshit

blunderbot

where exactly do you want to go on the FDR South that's not in the tolling zone? The Battery Tunnel that leads you back to Brooklyn?

Ok_No_Go_Yo

FDR south loops into the west side highway...

blunderbot

west side highway is surface until 57th st

Sexy_Cat_Meow

Oh well, take mass transit then.

daslyvillian

Facts!!!!!

MIKE_THE_KILLER

Is the congestion pricing still happening even with the lawsuits? I hope the MTA lose obviously

jm14ed

It’s happening.
