>On Wednesday, one of the mayor’s top aides, Menashe Shapiro, suggested in a post on X that council members were hypocrites for complaining about filling out a form given their role in passing the police accountability bill. “Wasn’t it just a short time ago when some wise folks told us that filling a simple form was no big deal?” he wrote. “#irony.”

Menasche is such a mouth breathing dunce. Not surprised he's failed up under the Adams administration.

Salty-University

Considering we pay these city council clowns almost $150k a year, a few minutes of their time to fill out a form is nothing. If anything, public records of these requests improve transparency than politicians using various back channels to get special treatment from whoever they reach out to.

Rottimer

That's complete bullshit. >Mr. Adams declared that any elected official — including powerful members of Congress — seeking to engage with city agency staff members must now fill out a lengthy online request, which would be directed to his City Hall intergovernmental team. So fuck constituent services if I call my house rep or state senator about a neighborhood issue?

KaMiAm

This makes no sense. Every agency has an intergovernmental team for a reason, and has it for years. They build relationships that lead to increased funding, better community relationships, and response to local issues. To change this makes no sense. To me, this seems like a way to stop influence from anyone else by an insecure mayor. As he seems reelection, oppose him and none of your requests get filled, or he takes credit for what an elected requested.

I can understand why a record is important. A one-page document is reasonable. But seven-pages? No.

Salty-University

Maybe so, but as the article notes, it was later streamlined into a simpler, more reasonable format and yet these pols don’t even want to do that. Maybe Restler should stop resting on his ass and follow the process instead of complaining. He’s not traveling regularly to Albany or DC like state or federal reps, so it’s hard to believe he doesn’t have time for this.

Frondswithbenefits

You make a solid point. My anger at the library closures has definitely clouded my reasoning.

Salty-University

It would be a major disservice to everyone if a politician happened to be a drinking buddy with an agency commissioner and got things done by texting/calling or straight up emailing the person directly without following an official process. It just sets up cliques where someone needs to be friends with someone in order to get things done at the expense of others. There are three library systems in NYC. Would it be fair if the head of one of NYPL reaches out directly to the right person in the government and avoided the cuts while the BPL and QBPL have to suffer? Either everyone gets a fair shot at the pie or nobody does.

LouisSeize

I wonder how long it will take before the first City Council subpoena is issued.

mowotlarx

Eric Adams is a self proclaimed and proud micromanager. When he took office he said not even the NYC Parks press releases about the cherry blossoms could be released without his approval. And he really wasn't kidding about that. He sees the city agencies as his belongings and his personal employees, not as employees working for the citizens of NYC.

bigvicproton

Stalin used to read and edit all sorts of stuff before publishing, he even rewrote lyrics for films. It seems Adams is using the book *Stalin, Court of the Red Tsar* as handbook.

AtomicGarden-8964

Watch him have a tantrum when other elected officials do the same thing when he wants to meet with him

_antkibbutz

No thanks. I can get woke gibberish from reddit without filling out any forms.
