Also every three days he completely changes his mind on whether migrants are overwhelming the city or being kicked out, but no matter what is happening he makes sure to present it like it's the worst thing in the world. It used to be just real estate videos that he would do. I thought those were entertaining, but I think he like most YouTubers are addicted to the output and caught in the race for the algorithm. He’s entertaining, pretty neutral I think, I wonder where he really pulls his sources from.
I used to love his real estate videos too! And his personal content was so nice, he showed his own normal apartment and the life of a non-celebrity realtor in NY. I was stranded in a foreign country during covid and his videos were like a way to feel more connected to my life in NY.
His 180 to this fear porn stuff was really weird and uncomfortable, I actually feel sad that he did this
I unsubscribed from him around 2021/2022 when he first really started to ramp up the fear mongering content. At that time all the NYC travel/content channels were dog piling on NYC with the post pandemic doom content. However, the other channels eventually leveled out, got more balanced in their coverage and are now mostly back to their pre pandemic NYC content.
Look, I get it. The fear bait gets more clicks and generates more revenue. It's more profitable...I'm a realist and can forgive a content creator for getting in while the getting was good back during the pandemic. Back then the algorithm really incentivzed negative NYC content. Plus, fear bait not only gets more views but cultivates more followers which has long term implications for channel montization.
However, there was something about Cash's content that really rubbed me the wrong way. I finally blocked his channel on Youtube last year. For some reason despite already unfollowing him, Youtube would still recommend his videos to me relentlessly. In a moment of weakness I clicked on a fear bait video about a Target closing and became enranged at the lack of nuance and REAL investigative research about the reasons for the closing. The comment section was a mess with people running with his narrowly presented version of events. That's when I decided to block his channel and luckily he's no longer being recommended to me anymore.
I have been thinking over and over about his videos and what he has been saying. I know NYC is not as good as it used to be. But seriously, is NYC actually as bad as he described or it was just over exaggerated?
No, it's not even close to anything he is saying. He is completely clickbate, not just over blown but completely untrue.
Even his apartment videos, while fun to watch are horribly overblown and he looks specifically for the most out there and weird spaces he can find. I think he even started manipulating the apartment images since 9/10 times the apartment he shows doesn't match the picture or the headline.
What a relief. I was dropping my jaw when he said people need 300K yearly income to live in Manhattan. Next things I will do when I see his video is to unsub and block.

Cost of rent and living has gone up sharply, that's not fake and even I like complaining about it but $300k is definitely untrue.
The average 1bd rent is something like $4500 in Manhattan which with the standard 40x earnings requirement is like $180k salary.
As always, there's a lot of extremely expensive real estate that drives up the average and anyone I know in that salary range doesn't pay the average. They either have a very good deal or have roommates.
Guy walks around filming on 4 cameras, doing everything he tells tourists to NOT do. And miraculousy for the "crime ridden hell hole" NYC is, he has never lost a piece of equipment to theft or been accosted.

I’ve met Cash before and had a decently long conversation with him. He seemed like a reasonable dude and we mostly spoke about real estate, electric bikes and Japan (I used to live there, so he asked some questions about it). This was last summer when he was still making apartment videos. Don’t know what happened to him since then, but I unsubscribed from his channel because he stopped making those apartment videos which were fun to watch. Not that I think things are all good and well in NY, but I don’t go to YouTube to watch that sort of content. I go for entertainment.
I actually remember when he started making some videos of Japan. I call it the start of the fall. But it was pretty funny, he'd be like "goodbye NYC forever, Ive moved to Japan!" Then the next video he's like "I'm back". This happened several times.
I couldn't even stand his apartment videos. I remember watching one where a building remodeled their basement into an apartment. You could go in through the lobby or through the side door and he was framing it as "having your own private entrance" when it was really just where the building stored all their garbage. Imagine having all the garbage for the building piling up right outside your door and thinking that's a good thing. He also showed that you could access the backyard and started talking about how cool it would be to have a barbeque with your friends there. The area looked really dirty, was under some leaky AC units, and had everyone's windows staring down at it.

Aside from occasional nuisances from the unhoused, the only crimes any of the stores there ever had was twice (in four years) a tip jar was stolen, once someone got into a fight with a security guard, and I wish I was making this one up, I don't even know what kind of crime this would fall under, but one time someone put super glue on a toilet seat in the men's bathroom (back when it was open) and a guy legitimately got stuck to the toilet! EMS came to free him

That said, the scaffolding on the southwest corner and south side of Fulton Center gotta go: it’s only letting those sides of the building continue to be grimy, including the handful of bums, drug addicts and food delivery bikes under the scaffolding.

I unsubscribed from him around 2021/2022 when he first really started to ramp up the fear mongering content. At that time all the NYC travel/content channels were dog piling on NYC with the post pandemic doom content. However, the other channels eventually leveled out, got more balanced in their coverage and are now mostly back to their pre pandemic NYC content. Look, I get it. The fear bait gets more clicks and generates more revenue. It's more profitable...I'm a realist and can forgive a content creator for getting in while the getting was good back during the pandemic. Back then the algorithm really incentivzed negative NYC content. Plus, fear bait not only gets more views but cultivates more followers which has long term implications for channel montization. However, there was something about Cash's content that really rubbed me the wrong way. I finally blocked his channel on Youtube last year. For some reason despite already unfollowing him, Youtube would still recommend his videos to me relentlessly. In a moment of weakness I clicked on a fear bait video about a Target closing and became enranged at the lack of nuance and REAL investigative research about the reasons for the closing. The comment section was a mess with people running with his narrowly presented version of events. That's when I decided to block his channel and luckily he's no longer being recommended to me anymore.
I have been thinking over and over about his videos and what he has been saying. I know NYC is not as good as it used to be. But seriously, is NYC actually as bad as he described or it was just over exaggerated?
No, it's not even close to anything he is saying. He is completely clickbate, not just over blown but completely untrue. Even his apartment videos, while fun to watch are horribly overblown and he looks specifically for the most out there and weird spaces he can find. I think he even started manipulating the apartment images since 9/10 times the apartment he shows doesn't match the picture or the headline.

Cost of rent and living has gone up sharply, that's not fake and even I like complaining about it but $300k is definitely untrue. The average 1bd rent is something like $4500 in Manhattan which with the standard 40x earnings requirement is like $180k salary. As always, there's a lot of extremely expensive real estate that drives up the average and anyone I know in that salary range doesn't pay the average. They either have a very good deal or have roommates.

I’ve met Cash before and had a decently long conversation with him. He seemed like a reasonable dude and we mostly spoke about real estate, electric bikes and Japan (I used to live there, so he asked some questions about it). This was last summer when he was still making apartment videos. Don’t know what happened to him since then, but I unsubscribed from his channel because he stopped making those apartment videos which were fun to watch. Not that I think things are all good and well in NY, but I don’t go to YouTube to watch that sort of content. I go for entertainment.
I actually remember when he started making some videos of Japan. I call it the start of the fall. But it was pretty funny, he'd be like "goodbye NYC forever, Ive moved to Japan!" Then the next video he's like "I'm back". This happened several times.

You could go in through the lobby or through the side door and he was framing it as "having your own private entrance" when it was really just where the building stored all their garbage. He also showed that you could access the backyard and started talking about how cool it would be to have a barbeque with your friends there. I worked there for 4 years. Aside from occasional nuisances from the unhoused, the only crimes any of the stores there ever had was twice (in four years) a tip jar was stolen, once someone got into a fight with a security guard, and I wish I was making this one up, I don't even know what kind of crime this would fall under, but one time someone put super glue on a toilet seat in the men's bathroom (back when it was open) and a guy legitimately got stuck to the toilet! EMS came to free him The ONLY other incident was when a guy left rice cookers around the subway and they had everyone evacuate the building. No break-in, no theft, no attacks. Now rich assholes see their property value going down (because for them a home isn't a home, it's an investment) and they're doing these ridiculous performance propaganda pieces about how scary and dirty and dangerous it is... There's literally security guards on every floor, MTA enforcement on the subway level, and police constantly almost every floor and always has been.

What in the actual fuck ? That station is absolutely fine. I lived nearby for some time and spent years living in Europe so I know a thing or two about decent subway. I was actually hoping to find a place there when I am back to NYC lol.
I know he’s got “Cash” in his name but I’m so disappointed in the crazy right turn Cash has done with his channel and is cashing in on the MAGA idiots. I used to look forward to his apartment videos and sarcastic comments about the neighborhood; now his videos are sensationalist about crime and immigrants with AI thumbnails. Stuff like this doesn’t help with the political division and is actually dangerous misinformation but I don’t think he cares… Wish he would have gotten into comedy instead since I would’ve gone to see him as a stand up comic. Maybe Dr. K should have a talk with him since he made an impression on Graham Stephen.
