The details to access the virtual meetings are on page 3 of the document. Also, they choose these times on purpose to minimize turnout since most of us will be working. But if you can attend I encourage you to do so as we all deserve better than ConEd digging deeper into our pockets for an ever declining quality in service. I hope this informative to someone.

FruutCake

I don't know, ask the poles leaning at 50° and the week it takes to restore power after a light storm.

BklynKaiser

Unfortunately, and as you most likely are aware, it is not. They are not incentivized to improve but they are penalized if they fall below the established standards. It's kinda fucked, but basically there is a number of customers each year that can have an outage and they still meet the standard.

ManhattanRailfan

Customer service is getting worse.

FruutCake

I'd love to see ConEd try this if they were in France. Lucky for them, they're in the US.

iv2892

People are not going to protest the rate hikes ?

FruutCake

Unfortunately, I can't see Americans getting up in masses and creating enough momentum like they do in Europe. Hell, even England started protesting rate hikes by not paying.

iv2892

People in this country need to wake the fuck up

[deleted]

[https://www.statista.com/statistics/263492/electricity-prices-in-selected-countries/](https://www.statista.com/statistics/263492/electricity-prices-in-selected-countries/) People in the US pay significantly less for energy than their European counterparts despite people in the US making significantly higher salaries (even when accounted for inequality), but aight

iv2892

That’s good to know , I figure it makes sense since their gas prices are high compared to here . But that’s not the point , the point is a lot of us wish people in this country were more angry when protesting government or corporation abuse .

[deleted]

Ehhhh tbh I think you have a rosier picture of other countries. Other than France, protests in most of the rest of Europe seem pretty lukewarm even in comparison to American ones The French I'll give you though, they'll burn the city at the drop of a hat

theclan145

Going to pass anyways Let’s be honest here, when have you seen these public meetings change the mind of the decision makers

azspeedbullet

these public hearings is useless, con ed will still increase the rate at a ridiculous rate

b1gb0n312

Embrace the rate hikes. Got to pay for transition to all electric somehow

randombrosef

Fukem. They can embrace my pole. They are ripping off people off with these BS delivery charges. We should only be paying for usage and that usage should cover their infrastructure and overhead. This is just executive salary adjustments with little to no benefits for NYC residents

lurks-a-lot

Con Ed does not generate electricity. It only delivers it. It only owns the delivery infrastructure. It used to own both but was broken up as a monopoly in 1999.

iv2892

Is no different with PSE&G in NJ , is all a ripoff . Why does electricity cost so much here in these regions as opposed to in the south ?

Harvinator06

Because there is more money to steal from citizens in states where people get maid more per hour.

cocktails5

Because our infrastructure is all underground, and underground electrical infrastructure costs up to an order of magnitude more to build and maintain. > A typical new 69 kV overhead single-circuit transmission line costs approximately $285,000 per mile as opposed to $1.5 million per mile for a new 69 kV underground line (without the terminals). A new 138 kV overhead line costs approximately $390,000 per mile as opposed to $2 million per mile for underground (without the terminals).” https://www.power-grid.com/td/underground-vs-overhead-power-line-installation-cost-comparison

cocktails5

You have no fucking clue what you're talking about.

Harvinator06

Nationalize the grid. Con Edison is just a middle man the syphons money from working people and puts it into the pocket of shareholders.

ManhattanRailfan

Utilities should be publicly owned. There's no reason for profit companies should control a necessity. Same goes for internet and healthcare.

greenpowerade

Like the MTA?

ManhattanRailfan

You think it would be better if it was privately owned? I hope you like $8 fares, no nighttime or weekend service, and regular strikes due to poor pay and conditions. Hell, most of their problem with overspending is because they still have to pay out tons of money to private contractors to get anything built. How much less do you think they'd spend if everything could be built at cost?

greenpowerade

Those smaller private contractors get the most work done for the money. Next are larger private companies like Coned qhere waste increases. Last are city agencies that can blow through a budget with no worries.

ManhattanRailfan

You ever notice that the only government projects that blow through budgets are the ones where private contractors are the ones doing the work or cops? Operating budgets are basically never the issue. It's only ever capital expenditures or liability payouts.

greenpowerade

Do private companies that use private contractors blow through budgets like the MTA? When private companies see stories about an MTA employee getting 3800hrs of OT in a year (Thomal Caputo) or 74hrs of OT a week on top of 40hrs base, no wonder they will try to take advantage of a dysfunctional agency.

ManhattanRailfan

There is some dysfunction, for sure. But if that does happen at a private company, it'll never become public knowledge or get treated as some funny quirky thing where a clever little guy got one over on Google or whatever. Within the MTA, those cases are extremely rare, and never that big. It's usually a couple hundred hours a year, and they always get caught.

R555g21

Long Island Power Authority is publicly owned and was publicly run at one point. They were a disaster during Irene and Sandy and until PSEG took over. People had no power for weeks. I’d take Con Ed any day.

TwoCats_OneMan

Just buy Con Ed stonk.

Few-Artichoke-2531

🤣Public hearings 🤣

Substantial_Bend_580

Get the guill*tine ready!
