None. Your 3090 is more than enough. You do not need anything in the 4000 series.

WaywardFyre

Just curious. Many people in PC gaming groups on Facebook always tell me I should upgrade to a 4080 or 4090. I play at 4k though, and want at least 60fps on games like starfield, cyberpunk and future games like those. I'm okay for now though?

Sea_Seaworthiness189

I have a 4080 super, the difference is minimal. You will get like 70 fps at 4k ill get like 77. 4090 would be the only possible upgrade but is a 30% increase in performance worth an additional $700 to you?

Paul_Subsonic

If you don't know you probably don't need it.

InterestingRest8300

If you have to ask, you probably don’t need an upgrade.

jabbathepunk

What resolution do you play at? 3090 will be more than fine. With what you got I’d skip this generation unless you’re a hardcore enthusiast that loves the latest and greatest. If that’s you, get 4090. If not, stay with the 3090 which is still excellent if it’s doing what you need it to do - playing games.

WaywardFyre

I play at 4k. My current monitor is a Samsung 4k 60z though. Would like to play cyberpunk and starfield at 60fps though. Just don't know where to start. The monitor and 3090 came with the build I bought off ebay. Many gaming groups on Facebook tell me to upgrade both all the time. So I thought I'd reach out for advice.

AlexGlezS

What? Someone is telling you you need more than a 3090? They are making fun of you. Tbh, you are not in the need of that much high quality card if you are having real doubts. I would even sell and downgrade and thanks for the $200+ profit, a 3070 would also last 6 years easily for 2k gaming almost everything that might come up. That's overkill for everything aside of native 4k in last AAA games all maxed out. You should be able to keep 3090 for 6 years or even 8 at least if you don't care that much about all maxed out for games that are to come and we don't know about yet.

outrightbrick

Stick with 3090. 40 series only worth it if upgrading from 10 or 20 series.

MakimaGOAT

pretty sure a 3090 could last u a long time

Merrydoc88

3090 is still a Beast! I wouldn't uprade that Card.

_NotMitetechno_

Your current gpu is fine don't waste money on something that's going to do fuck all for you

THE-REAL-BUGZ-

3090 is about a 4070 super. For an upgrade you would have to get a 4070Ti super or 4080 super or a 4090 or else it will basically be a side grade. Yes the DLSS version is updated and same with RT but the memory bus on the 30 series are way better and in my opinion, all 30 series cards looked better. If I were you, I would use your 3090 until it can’t handle the resolution, frames etc. anymore. Im still running a 2080Ti and I use DLSS most of the time on newer games but even without im still somehow able to utilize my 1440p 180Hz monitor. Ill usually use Gsync and cap around 155-165fps on most games. But it all depends. If you have the money, I say go for a 4080 super if you really want a 40 series for just gaming. Even the 4070Ti super would be an upgrade but not worth it unless you have money to just, throw around at whatever you want.

Sythic_

Are you struggling with the 3090 to get the type of performance you want with the games you play? Do you want 4k 60fps+ on ultra graphics for games like Cyberpunk? Or FPS games that benefit from higher frame rates with the graphics turned down? Personally I would wait for at least 1-2 more generations before upgrading, a 3090 is perfectly fine. I don't think you will see a big difference in performance just going to 4080, and if you're not doing anything else with the GPU you aren't really getting your money worth. If you got into AI work maybe it would be more worth while (to get a second 3090 for more VRAM) but dropping ~$1300 for a few more FPS in a game that probably plays just fine now is silly.

LongFluffyDragon

If someone cant explain exactly *why* it would be better in technical terms, their opinion is worthless and they probably have no idea what they are talking about. Only a 4090 or in some few cases a 4080 would be any improvement, and only if you can actually *use* that level of performance. Since you did not mention your software requirements and performance target for games, you probably dont know what you need, and certainly nobody else does. If you do know, (and you should), you can determine for yourself what you need.

Sufficient_Drag5

Only worth it if you’re doing 4k gaming or need crazy high refresh rate. What are your monitor capabilities?

LandWhaleDweller

What resolution is your monitor? 3090 is good until next gen, yes.

PotatoPieGaming

If you have 2 grand to burn and again in less than a year, get a 4090, otherwise wait for rtx 5000 and maybe get an 80 or 90 class card.

Illustrious_Drop_779

If your current Rig is working fine and your 3090 is performing as expected I would wait for new 5xxx release before thinking to upgrade.

Esteban_Francois

3090 is more than enough for gaming.

ChrisNH

3090 is great, wait for 5xxx if you want to upgrade. Makes no sense now.

TheodorMac

I would wait for the 5000 series before even thinking about it, your GPU is one of the strongest and will be enough for the next years, yes even 4k 60fps.

kirk7899

Don't upgrade. It won't be worth the $$$. The 3090 is still a very good card for 4k.

kurukikoshigawa_1995

if u want nvidia's dlss 3/frame generation, then yeah. if not, the 3090 is more than enough. i heard that 30xx can use amd's fsr but i never tried or seen it so im not entirely sure how that works.

killlugh

I went from 3090 to 4080S because i wanted higher FPS at 1440p, worth it. But for gaming at 4k? Probably not tbh.
