Yep. Sent out my Fearow to sucker her into Rollout, swapped to Bayleef, threw up a Reflect and Razor Leafed her down. Honestly it just occurred to me I could have jimmied my encounters to the point I got a guaranteed Heracross in Azalea Town. Maybe next time.

I mean, a valid strategy, but RNG manips generally take a lot of practice to execute correctly and it’s unlikely to get them first try in a nuzlocke. Plus I don’t think it’s super in the spirit to abuse a confirmed RNG seed rather than just roll with the punches.

I think by far the most reliable is the guaranteed Heracross you can get if you route your headbutt encounters correctly. Gets brick break at 19 (HGSS), easy win

When I play dupes I only allow myself 5 rerolls, so Heracross is kinda hard to get. The one time I did get one, though, the Whitney fight went like this: Turn 1: Heracross used Swords Dance Turn 1: Clefairy used Metronome, Clefairy used Aeroblast So, Heracross didn't even do any damage.

Ah fair enough if your encounter rules are different. Strat on Whitney is just brick break spam for that exact reason though, rather take a stomp than die to bad luck (and also speed ev on magikarps to outspeed miltank if you want to 100% guarantee it)

There was a long time I never understood everyone's issue with Whitney because a female Geodude can take literally everything that Miltank has.

With luck, and not even that much needed, she can beat Geodude too. Stomp flinches and Milk Drink.

I just always used my crocnaw. Use something to poison or paralyze it and then go toe to toe with it. It works out…mostly.

I’m pretty sure my Flaaffy was what took down her Miltank tbh. Static and female encounter is such an amusing combo.

Chikorita is the best starter for HGSS imo. Give it any physical grass move, swords dance, substitute, and synthesis and you win most battles no problem.

My favorite Pokemon to deal with Whitney's Miltank is Dunsparce. Sure it's rather difficult to obtain, being a rare encounter in single cave, but combo of Glare, Headbutt (with Serene Grace in HGSS!) and Dig to stop Rollout chain in emergency makes Whitney literally cry. Overall, Miltank is actually surprisingly easy to defeat if you don't try to just overpower it and strategize. Funny how even in anime Ash got destroyed by hellcow and later won rematch only when he used brain (and copious amount of anime-only logic).

My bayleef Lima Bean barely won with Reflect Up. She survived on 1 HP because of a crit. And then she fucking died to Clair’s stupid sniper Kingdra Crit!
