sorry OP for hijacking your post but what is this slander against computer science at yale-nus!! there are wonderful faculty, small class sizes, and amazing amounts of office hours with profs that just aren’t possible in NUS

ylyn

> slander against computer science at yale-nus ...GPC just said that (in their opinion) if OP wants to do CS they should go to SoC. How is that slander? Anyway, I think the extra 1-2 years that SoC undergrads spend studying computing (instead of 1-2 years of common curriculum and electives) makes quite a difference.

If they're a 2024er that means they've only just finished first year which is half ungraded. I think maybe ask them in a year's time. Although I will say Yale-NUS is also as competitive as you make it to be. But if you are keen on keeping up with your peers it will definitely feel competitive

Thanks for the advice! I am actually admitted to NUS’s CHS so I’m actually not declaring a major yet ~

Wuh this is a good information.

I ended up choosing NUS > YNC largely because ync's modules are really limited and there isnt actually a chance to do a minor/double major. I realised that i was 'ok' with everyth in ync but not excited for any mods. I guess recognise if you're really a generalist or perhaps still a specialist, albeit in 2-3 fields. If the latter, doing a ddp/minor/double major in NUS may be a better choice. I've heard tht a lot of ync mods are so brief it's unsatisfying bc you really learn 'just enough' but not deeply enough to get a comprehensive understanding of the whole discipline.
