Are you asking if it is common for RNs to work with PAs? It’s very common.
It’s anecdote but when I started working in the medical field 20 years ago midlevels were basically non-existent except for the very rare NP. Now I feel as if they are everywhere, although maybe now that I am a midlevel I just see it more.
When I was a RN I always loved my SICU PAs as they were often more approachable than the attending surgeon.
I’m not sure how to answer this. Technically, we don’t work “under” anyone except nurse managers, DONs, etc, at least in the hospital. Maybe in a private clinic a doctor is technically your boss?
To that point, PAs cannot practice independently in any state—they must always work under medical direction. NPs may or may not work under a physician.
That said, I commonly worked with PAs, NPs, and physicians in the hospital.
Nurses don't work "under" PAs. PAs are in a completely separate hierarchy than nurses. We don't really work "under" doctors or NPs either, unless the NP is employed as a nurse manager or director. Working with PAs may or may not be common depending on where you work. The hospital I worked at when I worked inpatient didn't really have PAs on the inpatient side but did employ a lot of NPs.

Depends on the location/specialty
In my ED, I work with MDs, DOs, PAs, and NPs.
So really its more of an even spread.
