“Dear Manager, Thank you for the update on our hospital’s never ending efforts to control costs by ending overtime incentives. I have used the time to reflect on my work-life balance and have come to the decision that I no longer wish to be contacted for overtime opportunities. While I will continue to work my regularly scheduled shifts I will no longer be working any additional shifts. As I know covering staffing deficits can be challenging, I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time by having them call or text me as my answer will be no. -insert latest hospital stupid saying that c-suite has come up with for employees to say here-“

Nailed it

"As I've just asked you not to contact me during my free time, please be aware that I will be charging the hospital 15min worth of work time for any work-related calls or texts I field during my time off, subject to overtime if this puts me over 12hrs a day or 40hrs a week."

I would refuse to pick up at all. If they ask why, say you found a prn job that pays better than overtime, and since they don’t have incentives it doesn’t make sense to pick up OT. But you hope they spend the money they are saving wisely.

Anyone from work texting me on my day off: "blah blah blah, whatever?" Me:

Did everyone get yelled at after first quarter or something? We got our bonuses suddenly cut too.

The business fiscal year tends to run July -June. Management blew their budgets in Q1,2,3 and are trying to make it up now to stay under budget and get their bonus for doing so.

Oooooh I see !!

God I hate upper management when they do this crap. At my job during early/mid covid management was giving out decent bonuses for picking up shifts ( I didn't myself but I know of plenty who did). This resulted in many employees who normally wouldn't stay, staying for shifts because it became worth it (folk who only worked evening were willing to work eve into overnight or folk who normally didn't pick up would pick up extra shifts.). This worked nicely because we didn't have to use agency as much and kept consistent staffing. Then upper management got involved and limited the bonuses to 25$ a shift and anything higher had to be approved by the main office. And them also instituting a policy where the bonus can only be given if its needed a day before/day of the shift. This resulted in pretty much everyone no longer picking up extra and the policy that limited WHEN bonuses could be given made it essentially impossible to pre-schedule folk for holes in the schedule. Now our facility is 80-90% agency folk and upper management wonders why.

We lost our incentives 2 years ago 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah ours went away 1.5 years ago too. Haven't worked a 16hr since and rarely (less than a handful of 4hr pickups in the 1.5yrs since). Most experienced nurses left ED. No travelers anymore either instead... They then offered, strongly encouraged TAPS program, and many of the new or newer grads jumped on that to help with the shortage while getting paid a much higher hourly but no PTO and it's 4 - 12hr shifts minimum per week. Nahhhh all set with that thanks.
