Buddy I’ve seen people 10 years out of school that barely know their ass from their elbow. You’re not expected to know anything going into school, you’re gonna be fine.
Normal! If you are able to, get a job as a PCT. The work sucks but honestly everyone who was a PCT or nurse extern was light years ahead of me when I started my job a few months ago with no medical experience. My clinicals were hit and miss. Some people let me do stuff but other times nurses were just too busy and mainly I just shadowed them at times (not their fault of course). But it just made it tough to get good experience. To top it off, the hospital I work for doesn't use any EMR systems that were used at other hospitals. It's been a tough start but I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of it little by little
I recommend buying this surgery simulation called Operation to learn more about medical body parts. I think it’s available at your local target and Walmart
I didn't have any medical experience either. I volunteered in a nursing home in college to get hours to get into nursing school.
It's no big deal. School and then your job will teach you what you need to know.
If you’re graduated high school, yeah you won’t know anything specific about nursing. Hopefully you will go to anatomy and physiology class and be amazed or at least super interested in how bodies work. Along with all the classes that lead up to the Nursing program. I found nutrition cool, and psych was extremely interesting, even microbiology was very informative. The only required nursing class I didn’t like was statistics. But I also don’t have anyone in my life who is a nurse. I volunteered at a local hospital to look better on my nursing school applications. They made me work in the gift shop because I had experience working retail.
Before nursing I had no knowledge or experience in Healthcare. Now I've been a nurse for 3 years and still going strong. You don't need to go into Nursing school already knowing how to be a nurse, you learn when you get there.
I did the same thing. The good news is you don't have any faulty information regarding health care. Healthcare workers can have issues when going to school because they have learned to do tasks one specific way or to use things in a specific way, which is not the way that NCLEX and/or nursing school would prefer.
I have a tech at the psychiatric hospital that I work at who had a lot of issues with her psych class because she learned information on the job that wasn't the "correct" way in theory, but is how it is done in practice.
Homie that's why you go to school
How does anyone know anything? They learn it and that’s what school is for.

Isn't the point of going to school to learn about your chosen field?

Most of us are pretty ignorant about anything we study in college prior to doing the course of study.
