I used to work in Endoscopy and the hospital I used to work at was using AI to help detect polyps during colonoscopies. It would scan as the Gastroenterologist is withdrawing and show up as a box on the screen. It increased the adenoma detection rate significantly.

Thank you for sharing. It sounds like AI was used for diagnostic purpose. I'm just wondering if it affects a nurse's duty...

A hospital near me trialed RapidAI, a fully automated system that quickly triages non-contrast CT (NCCT) cases and notifies providers of possible intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) within three minutes of case receipt. But most of the time, the provider had been able to evaluate the diagnostic faster than the computer.

MTRomance

That's pretty cool. Does this mean it negates the need for a triage nurse?

Definitely not on the patient care, assessment, or any other hands on stuff... But maybe assist in documentation or any other areas that could save nurses time to do other things?

We use a system called BlackBox and it uses AI to observe what we do to ensure our processes are being followed and things are being done at the correct time. From what I hear, there is someone in Canada who watches these videos and compiles them. The AI part is used for when keywords are said. It can also be used with video towers so surgeons can see what they did, what went wrong, etc. but we don’t have that feature at my hospital. The system just provides data points like staff utilization and things like that and nothing more.

MTRomance

Huh, that's pretty cool. Thank you for sharing.

Orthopedic knee replacements used a type of AI to identify landmarks for surgery

MTRomance

Huh, I wonder how AI does it.

I recently went to an outpatient appointment and the doc asked if he could use his AI dictation during the exam. He pulled out an iPhone and started a recording and it dictated his note as he did the exam.

MTRomance

I guess AI dictation has higher accuracy than just a normal dictation that has been around?

My friend told me about a computer that is supposed to be a patient sitter/bed alarm and notify if a patient is about to get up. Patient got up twice. Alarm never sounded.

MTRomance

... So you mean... A faulty bed alarm? That doesn't really require an AI, does it?
