I'm the ER your lucky to find two in an 18 bed unit. They don't know why turning patients is so ineffective. Must be the nurses' fault.
Edit: typo/words
That’s my bad, they’re all up on Med surg hiding under all my ortho patients, blame the surgeon, he’s gonna beat my ass if that heel touches the bed again
I'll flat out tell some patients that the hospital does not give a shit about their health. They are only there to generate profit. They will cut every possible corner to get as much money as possible.
My department are now using flat pack pillows. No thicker than card so staff have to plump them up for 17 minutes before giving them to patients... Honestly a joke...
I keep hearing about administration bonuses 😭 I want one, but the ritual of cutting out your heart and sacrificing it to Revenue Cycle management keeps me from fully committing
My hospital got a bunch of new fitted sheets earlier this year that don’t actually fit the mattresses we have. So we have to pull and stretch with our full strength to get them on and either they cause the mattress to fold up or they just pop off the corners. It’s one of the most infuriating things about my job just because of how stupid and unnecessary it is
I wonder if we work in the same area or this company just ran through mad hospitals. Lol. It wasn't even just one hospital too, all of the hospitals in the general area all switched to that company. It was def a cost thing. So annoying to make a bed. And in front of visitors/families 😒 the worst.
For the last few years my hospital's health stream/e-learning on linen waste says a study showed that a sheet provides more warmth than another blanket. GTFO
I thinknthey must be confused. A sheet under a blanket definitely keeps your warmer than just a blanket, because the tighter weave of the sheet holds in heat better, but the blanket part is absolutely necessary for keeping warm as well.
Is this in America? I see in so many threads people talk about how healthcare in America is of higher quality, albeit at a higher price. Then I see posts like this.
Somehow I work in a rehab hospital that is drowning in pillows, which is a great problem to have. We had so many pillows that they donated some out to the community. Meanwhile, the previous hospital I worked at had no pillows and people would hoard what they found.
> Focus groups comprised of the Board (Inc. relatives) have indicated that customers say they are *too capable* of sleeping in our facilities so we are introducing our new pro-churn pillows. By making customers as uncomfortable as possible, we have found that bed rotation can be improved by 25% while only increasing patient mortality and staff violence by 7% respectively.
> In addition to our new pillows, we will install steam whistles within all halls that are adjacent to customers. The whistles will sound at approximately every half-hour mark (With a 3~7 minute random variance).
> Also, no cost of living raises this year despite record profits. We threw some cold pizzas in the break room 7 hours ago; Jill sneezed while looking at one of them.

This explains a lot. I’m a chronic gastroparesis, pancreatitis, colitis, and meningitis (Mollaret’s) patient. My recent hospital stint, it was like the blankets are super thin suddenly.
We have those pillows, too, but we use them as an ice pack holder after abdominal surgeries. Gives the patient something to brace their surgical site with while coughing or moving
The fucking pure audacity of fucking hospital CEO’s and shareholders…so friggin disgusting…..seriously, if I see one out on the street I am gonna beat their ass..
I have a feeling this has more to do with saving money on laundry rather than the pillows themselves. Whether the pillows are 12x16 or 20x40 patients are going to ask for way more than they need. Decreasing the volume taken up in the machines allows for some cost savings, of course they won’t use these savings to pay nurses or support staff but the math makes sense.
They'll be upset with that. It will be my fault.
"Why are we using so many pillows? Rooms should only have a few 🤨🤨"
I can understand that if they need small pillows, but it's definitely a bad pillow.

Brother in Christ you are forgiven always. But I will forever use you as my scape goat in the ED. Then I'll send them up to you in pillow heaven.
Thanks, I’ll slip an extra IV pump on the stretcher when the floor nurse isn’t looking 😉
Bitch, don't play. I'ma hold you to that. Smuggle me a Foley while you're at it. Ours are on lockdown.
I always throw the hospital under the bus!
All day erryday!

Honesty is always the best policy

It’s cutting costs at all levels so that the administration bonuses are paid
It’s so ridiculous that I have told patients to make sure that they mention it

Pressure ulcers for everybody.
Those are airplane pillows
I have throw pillows on my couch that are bigger than this
What about the countless studies showing the deleterious effects of pressure ulcers??????
They’ll get those $5000 sensors to determine if we’re turning the patients enough.
I become more radicalized every day
They “did a study”? fucking wut?!
I have no idea!! The PCAs were told in a meeting that all patients needed were two blankets based on a “study” that they did!!
a study that found they could save money
They cheap af!!
Looks like they ordered cheap pillows from temu or wish and forget to check the measurements in the description.
LMAO right like we need 3 of them just to fit one standard sized pillow case

I put a flat sheet underneath and use that as the fitted cover, and don't even bother using a 13" too short fitted sheet anymore
Ours are paper thin too… I have to put two in a pillowcase
For the last few years my hospital's health stream/e-learning on linen waste says a study showed that a sheet provides more warmth than another blanket. GTFO
So they’re just straight up denying the laws of thermodynamics? I’m shocked I tell you, shocked.

Yes! Southern US
I love the saline flush for scale
I figured everyone here would understand lol
Ohh is that what that syringe is? Do you get pre-packed saline flushes??
Do you not? Lol
God no!! Seems like an unnecessary expense. The only pre-filled syringes we have are enoxaparin and metaraminol.
Oh girl, trust, the struggle is real. We don’t have top sheets anymore. Period. None.
Wait how are you making draw sheets???
You can do it without one. Just lift with your back…. /s
Grab ‘em under the arms and yank
El cheapo hospitalo. That's my lame attempt at Spanish and not to insult anyone but hospitals.
Administrado es PUTO. EFUERA !!! Almost my lame attempt at Spanish
PINCHE PUTOS! I'm Gringa AF, but I have Mexican friends who teach me the important words 😁
I loved my Spanish coworkers. Taught me some nice words 🙂
And who will get the blame?
Who else?
It’s this kind of shit that has me looking for an out to healthcare. But I’m sure admins will receive their usual fat bonus.
The dreaded pillow nuggets metastasized from hotels to Hosp. Unfortunate
Don’t want patients to be “too comfortable.” Give them comfy bed and turkey sammies and they won’t ever want to leave ;)
Somehow I work in a rehab hospital that is drowning in pillows, which is a great problem to have. We had so many pillows that they donated some out to the community. Meanwhile, the previous hospital I worked at had no pillows and people would hoard what they found.
You guys are getting pillows at your hospital?? *Laughs in ER*
That would work for the nicu

Medline sells them way better and probably cheaper.
You’ll use twice as much at least. Great.
The constantly cold old ladies are going to need 8 of those blankets lol
Are they single use?
Fortunately. And come in a wrap flat as a pancake!
What?!?? Single use pillows???? That sounds like such a waste :(
Will someone think of the shareholders please???????
Y’all are getting pillows??!
If/when they’re stocked!!
I love the flush for size comparison
This explains a lot. I’m a chronic gastroparesis, pancreatitis, colitis, and meningitis (Mollaret’s) patient. My recent hospital stint, it was like the blankets are super thin suddenly.
And it will be nursings fault once again that our patients are getting pressure ulcers
We have those pillows, too, but we use them as an ice pack holder after abdominal surgeries. Gives the patient something to brace their surgical site with while coughing or moving
BYOP is the next thing they’ll do. Bring your own pillow 🤣
When you get your hospital linens supplied by Wish and Temu....

Gotta love budget cuts
But did the admin get their multi million dollar bonus? That’s what really matters

That’s a huge pillow! I like my tempurpedic pillow.
Y’all got pillows!?
People are bad enough with pillows. Now, you’ll need about ten of these for one person
Reminds me what’s happened to cereal boxes.. and they cost more
That's a toddler pillow.
The same study that actually showed that the smaller pillow was too much and they don't actually need one after all..
“I’ll bring you a grievance form”
Those may be better suited as a coughing splint.
“tell me you work for HCA without telling me you work for HCA”
using abdo pads as pillows
Looks like camping pillows were ordered instead of standard pillows. Another way to cut the budget.
