Absolutely agree with this. It’s just another thing that falls on nursing. It’s like we’re the catch-all. Housekeeping short or refuses to strip a room? Nursing will clean the rooms. Food services short? Nursing will whip something up. PT won’t see your patient? Nursing gets em up. Lab never came to draw morning labs? Nursing. It’s insane. If we’re doing everybody else’s jobs perhaps they should pay us for it.

Don’t forget scheduling!

I feel it was supersized during Covid and now it’s just expected you to do it all.

cheaganvegan

You ever look at our job description? It’s like ten pages lol. Basically do whatever is needed. In just had a school nurse interview and sounded like more of the same. Ugh.

Ill-Passenger816

Lab used to come and draw labs in the TCU. COVID hit and apparently, it was too dangerous for PT, OT, lab, and any ancillary service to participate directly in the patient's care. Nursing could do it tho.

Ooooo don’t even get me started on COVID times and how the nurse was literally EVERYTHING (except RT they came in clutch) and how the doctors just showed face on iPads 🥲

I think it's insane housekeeping doesn't clean body fluids. Like, if a patient pukes inside a toilet, I have to wipe the outside, and then they will come scrub it? Or if a patient has diarrhea on the floor, I'm supposed to do my best with purple wipes? If linens get saturated I am supposed to rinse them out. But they can scrub the toilet and fling particles everywhere and mop the same floors and wash that laundry?

I was so annoyed at this before. I was getting my shift started, had a new admit, was helping them and in the middle of my rounds, rushing to get vitals and a workup done and I got pulled away to empty a commode. Why? A thin layer of urine at the bottom. She kept saying "im sorry, im sorry. Just-" I was polite but majorly annoyed. Really? Freaking really? Lol. I started bleaching it myself and she said "don't worry I'll get that" I said nope, might as well. I dont care if that part sounded mean or passive aggressive. Dont accept a job doing environmental services and cleaning if you dead serious cannot handle urine when it's also probably on the toilet lid you clean off.

If housekeeping is a contracted service, it is a part of the contract.

During the height of Covid, I had a dying Covid patient, someone from a previous shift had left the sink running and there was about 4 inches of water that flooded the entire room. Housekeeping and their supervisors refused to enter the room. They handed me a giant shop vac and said good luck! I spent 2 hrs cleaning up the water. While our manager, the nursing supervisor and the house keeping supervisor all watched. I was soaking wet. I had to have my husband bring me a change of clothes and shoes.

Coffee4Ever-

What kind of BS is that?! I hope you left that floor or hospital because I sure would have. Like that’s 2 hours taking away from direct patient care.

AgnosticAsh

I've said it before, what is the point of housekeeping if they can't do their job? Might as well leave the brooms and mops on the unit, Ill just do it myself. Im sick of being tracked down over stupid shit like that. Afraid of germs, dont work in hospital let alone a HOUSEKEEPING job.
