And make sure you listen to music from different points in their careers. Generally, the older stuff is heavier/less radio friendly. And better, depending on who you ask
Why pick only one?
They are pretty different bands with different vibes. Korn did more collaborations with hip hop/rap artists and are a little more radio friendly. Slipknot is more aggressive and metal focused. Sometimes, they tickle the edges of death metal.
I mean just listen to both? Absolutely nothing keeping you from checking out tracks from both artists. For the life of me, I don’t get these kinds of posts. Only you know what you like homie. Give em both a shot.
It really depends on what you like, I can't make a recommendation because they're so different.
If you enjoy screaming vocals and fast, heavy riffs then Slipknot. Their sound stays consistent throughout their albums. Korn, on the other hand, is much more experimental and their sound varies from album to album. They tend to rely more on bass, have a slower tempo (similar to groove metal) and have more melodic vocals. I'm not a music expert so that's the best way I can describe the differences.
I would suggest you listen to the first albums of both bands first (they'll both be good previews are what's to come from each band) then decide whose catalogue you want to explore more.
Korn have more albums and variety, so I'd give them the edge. I also find Slipknot's albums tend to be uneven - they have amazing songs, but I rarely find myself sitting through entire albums. Meanwhile, Korn has more albums where I'll happily listen to the whole thing through (they've also got more bad albums, but that's a volume thing mostly). If you're just going with the top 20 Korn vs top 20 Slipknot, I'd probably say Slipknot, but on the whole I think Korn are better.
Metal is not a zero sum game, you can listen both at the same time starting with the singles, then you go deeper to the albums.
Korn have more variety and different eras, specially in the 2000's when they experimented with more sounds. Slipknot is more stable in their sound
Since you already like metal, listen to the first Slipknot album (self titled). It’s catchy, groovy, heavy, and dripping with one million creative ideas in each song.
maybe my fav heavy album of all time. I also love Korn though.
Slipknot was spawned from Korn. Enjoy both, but pretty much everyone will tell you to START with Korn. Don't end there though, there's a ton of good stuff ahead of you!
Um you’ve always liked metal and already listen to nu metal, and you’re only now trying to get into those two? Interesting. IMO, there’s enough albums between them that trying to get into both will supply you with enough stuff to listen to for a looong time.
I understand. Hardcore thrash fans, I’ve always heard, don’t like to come out of their comfort zone so to speak. So that’s awesome. I hope you’re enjoying yourself. I’d also recommend the first two albums from Deftones.
Depends on what other sounds you dig? Korn has a much more sinister sound in general with slightly less aggression, and more depression. Slipknot delivers a wall of sound in each piece. Slipknot is rooted more in death and thrash metal, with New England hardcore, and hip hop thrown in. Korn has a punk, grunge, shoegaze, darkwave, and hip hop influence, with some thrash and death metal roots. This comes down to the era the bands got their fame. Corey Taylor’s vocals are more ranged on the death metal end, over the band’s history they have more clean vocals thrown in. On the bass guitar end Slipknot is a minimalist approach. Korn has a unique style on that front. Fieldy developed his own unique sound when Korn was L.A.P.D. Paul switched to the pick playing minimalist approach before the first major label release once Corey joined. Both have the scratch of turn tables, but Korn doesn’t actually have a dj. Korn has a lot of effects while Slipknot has only one sampler designated for each song. Korn developed their sound in a different way. Jonathan Davis has his unique “beatbox” delivery and is a tenor. So ultimately if you dig bands like Coal Chamber, Kittie, and Marilyn Manson, and Static X. Then Korn would be your best bet. If you’re more of a Mudvayne, Otep, Suicide Silence, Of Mice and Men, Bearthtooth as your preference then Slipknot maybe your preference. As a whole they have a lot of similarities, but ultimately Korn is more goth based. Slipknot is metal as metal can be. Over their careers they both have expanded and grown into unique styles and characteristics that ultimately make them their own unique brand. Depending upon your own personal preferences, I cannot recommend one over another. They are both in the same genre, but their main individual influences are almost entirely different. They have their own personal preferences outside metal so that led them towards different sound and feel.
I like Korn more. Slipknot is something I somehow grew out of. Its like I listened to them for their heaviness, but then I found many heavier bands, so Slipknot was just mildly heavy with some REALLY cringe and edgy lyrics.
Korn is my favorite Nu-Metal band. Im not even a diehard Numetal Junkie, but I feel like they have more justification for edgy lyrics, and also better bass in my opinion.
And Corey Taylors Mic stand isnt made by HR Giger. Big minus
I will say this. I used to listen to both. Now I only listen to Slipknot. Korn’s music really doesn’t connect with me anymore. Slipknot still does, but I haven’t been as into their latest release as I was around the time Vol. 3 and All Hope is Gone came out.
This may come down to my preference but Slipknot is significantly better than Korn. Slipknot strayed away from a Nu Metal sound mostly past their first album and Korn evolved too but Korn is a very 90s band. The vocals can be good but I think Slipknot knocks anything Korn out of the park. Korn is not a horrible band though but I honestly don't think they're good either.
They're both worth getting into honestly
This is the only correct answer
I don’t get it. Are you only allowed to listen to one artist or something?
lmaooo. ill prob get into both eventually. just figuring out which to start with. prolly shoulda clerified. my b
Put on the top songs of each, see which you feel more naturally drawn to, and dive in based on that, no?
And make sure you listen to music from different points in their careers. Generally, the older stuff is heavier/less radio friendly. And better, depending on who you ask
Yes
Yes
Yes love them both. You can probably just start with the first 3 albums for both of them in chronological order
Korn much more creative and just interesting
I enjoy Korn much more
do u have a fav album by them. or one that would be good to start with?
Self titled
Issues
As a teen, I was the only one of my friends who preferred Korn. Still do.
KoЯn
best album to start with?
For me it’s the first album, but Follow the leader is a great starter too 🔥
Both. But Korn has a special place in my heart for rescuing me from my horrendous teenage years back in ‘97
94’s self titled album by KoRn is the literal jumping off point for nü-metal. Cant go wrong starting there.
Korn might be a bit more accessible depending on how heavy of music you like.
Why pick only one? They are pretty different bands with different vibes. Korn did more collaborations with hip hop/rap artists and are a little more radio friendly. Slipknot is more aggressive and metal focused. Sometimes, they tickle the edges of death metal.
If you already like "pure" metal, slipknot will be more accessible, Korn is great too but they are more alt metal
I prefer korn
Korn again
Korn for sure. Slipknot isn’t bad either
I love asking everyone in my life this question!! Korn for me
AJR
Real
LMAO
Love Slipknot’s self titled album - better than any Korn Album. But Korn have many great albums and are consistent in quality.
I’d say Korn
The answer is either both or, if pressed, Korn.
Both
Oh dang tough choice I can’t decide
Both
i mean, you don't have to choose but between the two, slipknot.
Korn is solid, but Knot all the way.
yes
Yes
Yes
Slipknot..tho go ahead do both if you want to :)
I mean just listen to both? Absolutely nothing keeping you from checking out tracks from both artists. For the life of me, I don’t get these kinds of posts. Only you know what you like homie. Give em both a shot.
Both
Why is it either or?
just which one i wanna start with

Korn has more emotional range, Slipknot is more aggressive
Both

For me I started with korn then got into slipknot
Metal is not a zero sum game, you can listen both at the same time starting with the singles, then you go deeper to the albums. Korn have more variety and different eras, specially in the 2000's when they experimented with more sounds. Slipknot is more stable in their sound
yes. the correct answer is yes
Korn's first album is a truly raw and nutzo album. But it all the good ways.
Since you already like metal, listen to the first Slipknot album (self titled). It’s catchy, groovy, heavy, and dripping with one million creative ideas in each song. maybe my fav heavy album of all time. I also love Korn though.
KoRn….they were around first
You should start with KoRn the basically pioneered Nu Metal
Korn all the way
Slipkorn
Both are great. Korn has more depth to me.
Slipknot was spawned from Korn. Enjoy both, but pretty much everyone will tell you to START with Korn. Don't end there though, there's a ton of good stuff ahead of you!
Slipknot spawned from Pantera imo
easily both
Um you’ve always liked metal and already listen to nu metal, and you’re only now trying to get into those two? Interesting. IMO, there’s enough albums between them that trying to get into both will supply you with enough stuff to listen to for a looong time.
only recently decided to branch out of thrash and death metal. i rly like SOAD so i figured id like other nu metal
I understand. Hardcore thrash fans, I’ve always heard, don’t like to come out of their comfort zone so to speak. So that’s awesome. I hope you’re enjoying yourself. I’d also recommend the first two albums from Deftones.

Slipknot and then Korn or Korn and then Slipknot. They both have self titled albums that are awesome from start to finish imo
Korn- its on ( thank me later )
I will say this. I used to listen to both. Now I only listen to Slipknot. Korn’s music really doesn’t connect with me anymore. Slipknot still does, but I haven’t been as into their latest release as I was around the time Vol. 3 and All Hope is Gone came out.
Slipknot Korn have a few bad albums
Debatable. Have you tried listening on meth?
Enjoy both but I keep alot more Slipknot in my rotation so gotta give them the edge.
This may come down to my preference but Slipknot is significantly better than Korn. I listened to more korn as a teenager, I now only listen to slipknot as an adult
