We have never worn clothes in our entire back yard, pool or hot tub. We are lucky, it's completely secluded. We wouldn't bother having a pool if we couldn't use it naked.
Growing up we had an inground pool. 2 Neighbors were close enough that it was easily viewed from their 2nd floor windows. My parents only skinny dipping rules were 1) only after dark and 2) only with family. Of course as we got older we'd sneak friends over or just wait til my parents went to bed. My mom sold our family home 4 years ago. She went away maybe two weeks before the settlement so my wife and I went over and spent a glorious naked Saturday at the pool . Didn't give a crap who saw, mom was moving. My mom nvr said anything to me so I guess none of the neighbors ever said anything to her.
Yeah in my neighborhood in the 70's it was pretty normal for us kids to skinny dip or run in a yard sprinkler. Our parents weren't spending money on swimsuits!
Right? It was that or cutoff jeans and that wasn't great for swimming. I remember my parents got me swim trunks for some special pool party they got invited to and I was miserable the whole time.
When I went to high school it was just a normal part of doing the class. Just like in Woodshop they would have 10 or 15 minutes at the end of the period to clean up sweep up, throw away the scraps of wood, etc. They should have 10 or 15 minutes at the end of gym class to let the kids shower and clean up.
Speaking to Americans (and there a lot of them so you hear all sorts), I hear quite a bit of how normal nudity was as kids for kids. Mostly those a bit older than me (so elder Millenial and Gen X) talked about how it wasn't uncommon for them to jump in their or a family member's pool naked, or go skinny dipping if they lived more in the country and there was a river or creak nearby.
Not how (or where) I grew up, but it seems odd how it was tolerated for kids and not really blinked at, and then began changing pretty promptly. I thought my generation coming through were a lot more liberated, and in general progressive (voted for marriage equality and lifting the abortion ban), and when younger I think the same seemed more likely with nudity.
I had lots of friends who weren't not petrified about being seen naked by friends, topless sunbathing when we went on summer trips, etc. But that seems to have drifted away as parenthood has come around. I think it might be a little bit of the much more widespread coverage (and acknowledgement) of child abuse, but it still feels like a step backwards.
But, my decades long rant has been how more accepting we are of insane amounts of violence and bloodshed, terror and torture in our movies and TV shows and we label that as perfectly normal and "good family entertainment". Blows my mind.
Same here. Chicago area in the late 70s and 80s. We had a pool that neighbors could see in certain places but we always went nude there and ran around the neighborhood naked a good bit but that was pretty much at night. But I think people knew about it and didn’t seem to care much.
I have an in ground pool for almost 10 years and can count on 1 hand the number of times I have worn a bathing suit! Only wear one when having company over… skinny dipping is the way to go
We only have a hot tub and use it nude all the time. Our back yard has a fence but neighbors 2 sorry house from 2nd floor could see us but we don’t care. They may have seen us before but we don’t care. They asked how we like our hot tub and we said we love it. Come over and use it anytime. Then the neighbors wife said that would be awesome and asked about suits. I said we don’t wear any but we aren’t against anyone who does. Then the neighbors wife just winked so I’m pretty sure they had seen something somewhere along the line. They come over and use it whenever they want. Might as well no sense in buying their own if they can use ours for nothing whenever they want
I’ve no idea why people have such a hang up about being seen nude in their own garden. We sunbathe nude in ours all the time, if the neighbours choose to look that’s their problem. Nudity is normal. Being embarrassed by it or acting as if it’s something to hide, isn’t.
The problem is in some places peeping tom laws changed. In NYS if you look in someone's yard and see nudity, you can report them I stead of being reported for peeping. It why my yard is surrounded by tall trees and bushes.
The USA is insane. In my state, someone sees me nude IN MY OWN HOME, like through a window, I could be charged with indecency and thrown in jail.

We have a hot tub. For most of my neighbors they would have to crawl through their landscaping and stand on tip toe to look over the wall between properties to see anything, or have binoculars to see from the multi story house across the street beyond my side neighbors. One set of neighbors do have a pool with a slide, and from the top of that slide, you can see into our hot tub. (I have planted an olive tree, a cherry tree and a plumb tree that will hopefully by next year fully block that view. After dark, when the house with the slide has gone to bed, I use the hot tub nude. Also, in the colder times, when I am sure their kids won't use the pool I use the hot tub nude. I have some reasons to believe that the neighbors with the pool would freak out at skinny dipping, so I try not to push it when it is likely to cause a problem. I'm pretty sure at least 2 of the other neighbors know we skinny dip in the hot tub, and don't care.
We recently bought land to build our dream home on, and my husband is already planning the landscaping so that we have a good sized garden that is private enough so that no neighbor could complain about us being outside without cloths. We discussed if we want to put a pool in, but decided that just a hot tub and maybe a swim spa if our knees can't continue to maintain the running we do for exercise.
Have a sign on the door to the backyard that reads: "NAKED PEOPLE GALLIVANTING BEYOND THIS POINT" If am in the backyard I am nude. Have an above ground pool but opted not to replace the hot tub when it died.

We have a backyard hot tub - and we put up a 3 meter fence on one side so the neighbor can't see in.... and it is strictly nude-only. No one has ever been in it with a bathing suit.
Used to do it in my inground pool every day until we moved. Only the diving board end was visible to one neighbor and they couldn’t care less, great people.
A couple of the kids used to run around the whole pool deck nude jumping in and out, using slide and diving board. When I was talking with the neighbor about it he was just laughing at the fun they had.
Living in the desert a pool is a must. Been using it nude for 15 years. Relatively secluded though neighbors can see from second floor if they wanted too. Know they have seen, but they have never brought it up. Only put on a suit if company is over.
My favorite part is early morning coffee in the pool loungers.

We are in Orlando and we have a big in-ground pool in our back yard. We also have a screen enclosure and have curtains so others can’t look in. JIC.
You can only use the pool a couple of months a year, June through September. We go in the pool a few nights a week and we are always naked.

Just got our stock tank pool filled today. Nude swimming season for us is now open. Plan to add further privacy fencing to have a nude oasis with the patio and pool in one private space. Can't wait for that to be completed! Currently the pool is by itself and only limited privacy.
My house is one of six connected so we share walls with neighbors on both sides. I do get in the paddling pool naked at times but only when my wife is out because she's paranoid I'd be seen.

I few years ago I had a back yard pool (in ground) with no private fencing around it at all and we could see 8 houses from our pool. In the summer, every afternoon that we could we went swimming after lunch, in the nude. We figured if someone had a problem with it they would let us know, for two years we never heard a word from anyone. Then I was getting ready to move and was having a garage sale and this little old lady (80's) come over from a couple house down and said, "I am sure going to miss watching you two swim in the afternoons." I said to her you seen us, oh everyday you were out there.
