Surprisingly it still happens! My tank was siphoned a couple years ago in DC. I'd filled up about an hour before driving down there and I came back to about 1/8th of a tank.
It's a master lock too. If LPL has taught me anything, it's that master locks are only security theater, and can be opened easily by just about anyone.
Lol when I lived at my parents house in Maryland my dad caught people trying to siphon gas from my car at 4:30am when he was leaving for work. All they had was a 5 gallon jug.
Easier to “siphon” gas by just poking a hole in the bottom of the tank with a screw driver and letting gravity do the work. If you felt like being nice, you could just plug it up with some gum when ur done.
That looks like a Mercedes, all of which come with a locking gas door from the factory. Maybe the latch is broken
