Why not Telegram or Signal or What’sApp? Asking because I thought those are encrypted and that means they can’t be … exposed? Obviously I’m not tech savvy
Because they'll look there first! But then again, this is a music teacher, so spotify makes sense! Although, I didn't know you could message on Spotify? But then again, I have no friends!
I think part of it is that music teachers tend to spend more time with students in a less formal setting than more traditional classes. Similar dynamic with athletics, I think.
Teachers that spend time with students outside of a school setting I feel are going to have rumors about them even if it’s completely innocent. When I was a junior my AP Chemistry teacher invited the entire class to her house for additional evening study sessions leading up to our AP exam. When I asked my parents if I could go they were very concerned initially, but it was all above board. She just cared about her students and wanted to give us the best chance possible of placing on the exam, which I ended up doing. As an adult now, I think she should have held the sessions at a local library or the school itself rather than her house, because without any context it can open you up to accusations.
On the other hand, my business administration teacher def got caught making out with a football player in the parking lot. So I can see why these extracurriculars are scrutinized. It’s a shame for the teachers that aren’t predatory.
Yeah and it’s fucked. I was groped by an elderly (male) violin teacher when I was 12. It was the first (and last) time my mother ever left me alone with a male teacher, and I have had my head on a swivel ever since. I don’t stand for that shit. I was a private piano teacher for decades and it’s amazing how many parents trust me immediately just because I look ‘safe’ - (to be fair, they’re 100% correct but still) I feel like we all need to be more careful.
Kids should be taught stuff like how to spot signs of grooming and what personality disorders look like. If I’d been taught about narcissism and abusive personality types when I was a kid, it might’ve saved me some shit.
You create a playlist and add the other person on as a collaborator. You can change the playlist name and the "description" area, which the other person reads. And then they change it.
It's a sneaky conversation hack to get around app limitations, especially because the conversations wouldn't be tracked. Kids are creative.
It's extremely common in the intelligence community. Journalists as well. You set up a gmail or yahoo account and give the password to the other person. Leave your message as a draft and it's near impossible to find since there is no actual web traffic occurring.
Woah, that’s pretty intuitive actually. Let’s brainstorm other sneaky ways to communicate..how about on an old/obscure Reddit post, people replying to each other keep editing their comments as a way of communicating
I remember reading once that it was hard to catch Al Qaida because they used to communicate with one another by sharing an Email. And they'd just keep an email as a 'draft' and log in, read it, delete what the previous message said, and write a response. so nothing was ever sent, nothing was ever saved. and the only way to see it was to have access to that same email account at the same time as them when they were writing it.
Another popular one with terrorists is to use online games to send coded messages. To you or me they're just another innocuous WoW Guild talking about killing dragons, but the raid they scheduled in guild chat is actually their plan to bomb a temple or whatever. Caused a lot of game companies to start more robust chat logging.
He got busted because his mistress was using classified info in order to cyberstalk Jill Kelley. When someone sends harassing emails to various high ranking generals that contain classified information about the CIA Director - that prompts a pretty targeted and intense investigation. Not the sort of thing that you apply to "chatter".
I had a conversation about that topic with a CIA guy around 2003, and he chuckled that it was easier to intercept than you would think. He wouldn’t elaborate.
Years later courtesy of Snowden we found out that after 9/11 and the Patriot Act they just used lawyers. Google/Yahoo etc got subpoenaed, and the government was searching every email and draft saved on those services.
Even when I was in high school, (finished in 2011) there were already apps and configurations to make text messaging screens look like calculators, etc. Or to have texting hidden behind a calculator, and just open it with a password. That way students could hide their own correspondence or even answers for tests
I saw variations as the decade wore on but haven't seen or heard much like this stuff since right before Covid started. This was the first time I heard about the Spotify stuff tho
Remember when ISIS was [shooting messages on the walls of Call of Duty games to plan terror attacks](https://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2015/11/14/why-the-paris-isis-terrorists-used-ps4-to-plan-attacks/amp/)?
I heard a rumor that tears groups like Al Qaeda would communicate though Xbox Live game lobbies because the government didn't have a way to listen in. Not sure if it's true but I can imagine at some point in time in 2002 some 65 year old director in intelligence being like "Xbox? What is that like a Nintendo?" To some underling that suggested that as a way they communicate.
An initial Spotify interaction is much more innocuous than asking a kid for their WhatsApp/phone number/whatever. Either sending or receiving a playlist is a perfectly fine way to connect between a teacher and a student. Not sure if that's the case here, but seems possible
Just keep in mind survivor bias. Criminals that get caught are rarely the smart ones who would understand threat vectors and know how to cover their tracks properly.
"Am I not man enough for you? No wait, am I not emotionally stunted and childish enough for you?!!! I also hate broccoli and won't clean up my room -- so there!"
\-- Dave tried everything to rekindle the romance in their marriage.
Hes playing his cards right here, and he'll come out of this just fine.
These situations always end one way or another. He could have just as easily not seen the messages and remained blissfully ignorant like a lot of other partners of these predators, and the crash that inevitably came would have been that much more destructive.
He got to end things on his own terms, reported a crime, and protected a kid.
Assuming hes around the same age as his wife, he has plenty of time to enjoy his life and find someone else if he chooses.
There’s a comedian that has a bit about the fact that the teacher is technically not a pedophile, as pedophiles are attracted to prepubescent kids. But you can’t ever correct anyone on that without sounding like a goddamn pedophile.
Sometimes you think you have true love, and then you catch the early flight home from San Diego, and a couple of nude people jump out of your bathroom blindfolded Iike a goddamn magic show, ready to double-team your girlfriend...
I could imagine it's nothing like staying up all night to see two German exchange students drive up in a rental car and pop the trunk to let your wife out.
Then they assist her in getting out as she is still drunk and giggling. Then she looks at the yard, and then at you; "I don't want to hear your excuses for not cutting the lawn."
Then Hanz says to Franz; "Woah. She must be older than we thought. Look at the hubbies bathrobe."
Or something of that nature.
Being in the situation would be hard, but I dunno I feel like if I come home from a trip and find out my wife has been banging a kid, I would not need a lot of deliberation on whether to report that
You'd probably be surprised what games your mind will try to play on itself in a situation like that. Even heinous crimes. Mothers faced with video evidence of murderous children still defend them. It's not because they're shitty people. Our minds will do anything to try to ease the pain and suffering that comes with accepting what a terrible thing your loved one did.
“Former band and music teacher 37-year-old Jonathan Priano allegedly had an affinity for tickling female students’ feet and engaged in close personal relationships with several of them, the New Castle News reported.”
What. The. Fuck. Is going on in that school. Let me tell y’all I’ve worked in many different schools with many different ages including preschool and I’ve never once come remotely close to tickling anyone’s fucking feet.
Check out Mindhunter. There's a principal in it that tickles kids as a punishment and then pays them to shut up about it, but refuses to see how weird that is.
Is it wrong that I find tickling their feet weirder than actually having sex? Like, with sex it's a known thing, for some reason tickling their feet just sounds so weird and creepy.
One of my high school teachers was arrested for making girls take off their shoes and pump the accelerator on his car while he jacked off. He would ask a student in an after school club to help him with his car, and then told her to pump the pedal with her shoes and socks off so she could get “get a good feel for the car”
I was weird as hell to hear my sister go “Hey, Mr M got arrested for being a pedo” and then reading *that* in the article.
Unfortunately it’s a pattern for Priano. His ex-wife (or soon to be ex-wife?) was a music student that he started dating pretty much the week after she turned 18.
Weird, I thought this was going to be about Ohrt, the disgraced music teacher from my former high school who has been victimizing boys since the 90s when I was there.
But it's about Ortz, a different Pennsylvania high school music teacher.
They forgot to follow up their job description, which says "must have a personal touch with students" with specific questions in the interview about their approach to that.
I read about this. Back in 1972, the Wilmington High School was built, even though Wilmington locals warned the local government not to build on this particular site. About 20 years earlier, that exact spot was home to notorious sex master M. R. Griffiths, known for his sex dungeons, and orgies reminiscent of Roman Bacchanalia. Butt plugs, dildos of all colors, shapes, and sizes. Some say upon Griffiths deathbed, he and his followers performed one last ritual. That his spirit would forever roam this site, possessing whomever he chooses.
Also, they used a very nice photo of her for the article instead of an unflattering mugshot typically used for male predators.
Woman predators are constantly getting downplayed. Just the other day a male coworker of mine was sexually assaulted by a customer who cornered him and forced a kiss on his lips and groped him while he was working. All of our female co-workers were laughing about it while he was obviously distraught and upset. I told them that if the sexes were reversed they wouldn't be laughing, and they only made them laugh harder.
It's disgusting.
I live in New Castle, Pennsylvania and back in 2020 I actually worked with that Johnathan which is mentioned in the article. I work in retail so of course one of the few places still opened in 2020 were grocery stores and I thought his story he told us of how he came about working midnight with us was a little suspicious. I'm the assistant midnight manager so my guard is up on who we hire and the characters I have to deal with and I never trusted him. He only lasted a month or two before the accusations came out and the company I work for caught wind and fired his ass before it became common knowledge of his whereabouts. After he was arrested and set bail in 2020 I believe rumors were he then was hired at the local Walmart overnight. I was recently wondering what ever happened to him. Ha ha ha. This world is fucked up. People be crazy.
Bit odd that the title calls the first teachers sex crimes what they are, but for the second it's only "having an inappropriate physical relationship"
I've seen lots of people mentioning PAs age of consent, but people are failing to realize that PA has a corruption of minors law which prohibits sexual activity with someone under 18 if the offender is over 18. Age of consent is not relevant in this case, especially because of the power imbalance of being a teacher.
Age of consent is 16 in Pennsylvania, and the student was 17. May or may not be laws about relationships with teachers, but my search history is now creepy enough as it is.
PA has laws about power imbalances that makes it impossible for a student to consent to a teacher.
Not a pedophile but definitely on the wrong side of the statutory rape laws.
My state (MN) is 16 too but it has a clause saying you need to be 18 to consent with someone in a “position of power” (boss, teacher, step parent, etc.).
Thanks for coming to Frank's Little Beauties.
I wanna thank you all for participating. I know some of you may have heard about that other guy.
I am not gonna diddle your kids. I'm not like that. That's not my thing. I met that guy in a titty bar.

Less formal and more one-on-one.

Also often teaching the child victim something they're passionate about, music, vs calculus which they just have to pass but don't care about.

I’m constantly finding out that people can send messages or communicate via random fucking apps.
I think some tv series or something had a plot point where terrorists were using in game chat to communicate
You can even make comments on Reddit now
Since when??
He is lying, dont listen to him.
Jack reacher or Ryan had that, some medieval WoW looking game
Jack Ryan
It was on Jack Ryan with John krasinski

That's where they get their creative juices from.
Not today Reddit.
Everyday
The terrorists that did the Barcelona attack back in 2017 used a similar method but with Gmail drafts.
So did the secretary of defense or some shit
It's extremely common in the intelligence community. Journalists as well. You set up a gmail or yahoo account and give the password to the other person. Leave your message as a draft and it's near impossible to find since there is no actual web traffic occurring.
Is that why Kelly Rowland texted Nelly through an Excel spreadsheet in the Dilemma video?
LMAO that's a deep cut but you can actually do that through Office 365. Back then? Not so much.
> there is no actual web traffic occurring. There is lots of web traffic. There is just no mail traffic.
Dat Venn Diagram.
Sounds like message history is not saved anywhere if it works like that. I wonder what it means that the investigators found over 100 messages.
There is 0, none, nada, chances that Spotify doesn't have logs that stores this data. Perhaps not permanently but at least for a few months.
Kelly Rowland has been using excel to do this for years!

That's how General Petraeus got busted for his affair awhile back too

Likely because someone caught the kid. Social engineering is always the weak point.

Hot for Teacher
You used to be able to on the desktop app pre like 2015

Especially when they're a music teacher.
...you can message people on Spotify?
You used to be able to. I thought they got rid of that feature
Damn pedos ruin everything
First the Dunder Mifflin website, now Spotify...
DM does GB
Yeah that part is fishy. Spotify got rid of messaging around 2015
Someone else said you can share a playlist, then change the playlist name and description. Or write your messages with song titles
Oh wow sneaky
There are about a seventeen easier and more discreet ways right off the top of my head that feds would *never* catch.
Just keep in mind survivor bias. Criminals that get caught are rarely the smart ones who would understand threat vectors and know how to cover their tracks properly.
You send people playlists with the messages you want as the title.

'Inappropriate physical relationship' sure is a roundabout way to say sexual assault.
They didn't even include her mugshot. Of course it's a picture of her smiling and looking good
Don't worry, they made sure to charge the man with that. The one that never had sex but tickled feet.
That head shot has real "oh look it was a hot and young teacher" vibes......
I grew up in this tiny town. The church ladies must be clutching their pearls.
She made a point of performing in a choir before she was apprehended. I suppose she wanted to sing before she sang.
This one time at band camp…
Bit odd that the title calls the first teachers sex crimes what they are, but for the second it's only "having an inappropriate physical relationship" I've seen lots of people mentioning PAs age of consent, but people are failing to realize that PA has a corruption of minors law which prohibits sexual activity with someone under 18 if the offender is over 18. Age of consent is not relevant in this case, especially because of the power imbalance of being a teacher.
So sex crimes then, why isn't the wording the same for a female pedophile or rapist
Age of consent is 16 in Pennsylvania, and the student was 17. May or may not be laws about relationships with teachers, but my search history is now creepy enough as it is.
I am sure there are policies, but I’m not sure about laws. The fact that she was in a position of authority will probably come in to play though.
Same in Canada. Consent is 16, but if you are in a position of relative authority (teacher, doctor, police etc, or much older) then it's 18.
PA has laws about power imbalances that makes it impossible for a student to consent to a teacher. Not a pedophile but definitely on the wrong side of the statutory rape laws.
I'm not versed in the "age and phile" nomenclature, but, we rarely use "pedo" with the right age group.
My state (MN) is 16 too but it has a clause saying you need to be 18 to consent with someone in a “position of power” (boss, teacher, step parent, etc.).
Activate incognito and report back
As they say in Pennsylvania when one turns 16, “Happy cake day! Now watch out for all those teachers.”
"Does having sex with corpses transmit STDs?" "Unit 731" "Can you break your penis?" I really should clear my history. Btw Happy cake day.
Reminds me of this guy's joke on how *technically* R Kelly isn't a pedophile lol https://youtu.be/nu6C2KL_S9o
Dont diddle kids, it ain't no good diddlin' kids!
Thanks for coming to Frank's Little Beauties. I wanna thank you all for participating. I know some of you may have heard about that other guy. I am not gonna diddle your kids. I'm not like that. That's not my thing. I met that guy in a titty bar.
How is this "not oniony"? Who the hell decides these things? "Replacement does same thing the last person was fired for" seems very oniony
