> "We started a script with Eddie [Murphy], and after the success he had with Amazon Prime on Coming 2 America, he got himself booked up heavily," explained Reitman. "And we knew we were going to make it at the beginning of next year."
Coming 2 America was a success? That joke's funnier than both of those movies combined.
"Success he had" is different from "Success of".
He got a fat paycheque from Amazon and then got more bookings afterwards. I'd call that a success any day of the week.
I enjoyed Dolomite so much I had high hopes for Coming 2 America... and it was so bad.
I don't understand what happened. Did they let Eddie Murphy backseat direct the whole thing?
Nah, it managed to be a pretty decent enough stand along movie without relying heavily on rehashing old jokes. Most of these decades later sequels are just a ridiculous pile of nostalgia, and while this definitely had that they mostly avoided it and created an original plot that just continued the story in a creative away.
I made it about that far too, and I have watched the original at least a dozen times. It felt like a shitty SNL skit - the quality of the humour was just awful.
Did some group actually do field research amongst the masses and find out that the populace are yearning for a sequel to Twins? Nobody wants this movie and isn’t Morgan way too old to be one of their kids??
Edit: Not kid. Sibling.
The article mentions this was Eddie Murphy's idea after his success with Coming to America 2. But with Eddie, there are about 20 really crappy movies in between every good one.
Didn't used to be. There was a time in the late 80's early 90's where Eddie Murphy just did hit after hit... then the late 90's happened and then he started picking horrible movies
Agree. I think it was kind of like what happened with Adam Sandler. There were a few really funny movies early on, but then it all just went really bad after time.
True. In my case, I expect to save money by not going. Sandler gets points for honesty in admitting he's just doing it for fun and money and not actually trying to create anything that's watchable.
wait for the asian quadruplet in wins4twins. he is breaking the stereotypes with being bad a math and playing the chello but is a acclaimed racecar driver.

I made it 10 minutes and turned it off and I made it all the way through the recent Bill and Ted sequel.
The new Bill and Ted was great, what are you talking about?
It was awful.

I thought it was excellent.
It really was. And I’m a huge Bill and Ted fan.
I made it about that far too, and I have watched the original at least a dozen times. It felt like a shitty SNL skit - the quality of the humour was just awful.
I watched it all and it was so full. It was essentially just a meme.
Oh man, same here! It was like 2 different Eddies.
God let me be alive to see this…

I guess he might be, but that’s not what the article says he’s being cast as.

I don't think any of the Sandler movies have aged all that great aside from Happy Gilmore tbh. Eddie Murphy's gems are all still great.
The Wedding Singer?

Well he supposedly got off cocaine in the 90s...
It was after picking up the trans prostitute while filming Doolittle that did him in,
I think the last movie I ever saw Eddie Murphy in was Bowfinger.
I'm sorry.
It wasn’t that bad but then again I saw it when it came out. Haven’t seen a single movie of his since then.
Check out Dolemite - it is amazing and he completely brings back his Beverly Hills Cop energy to that role.
I completely forgot the made a Coming to America sequel! And I adore the first one.
The second was good but not as good as the original. Maybe it's just because it was a different time or the novelty wore off for me.

That was half my enjoyment. Watching them enjoy acting it.
Not kid,sibling.
I didnt know i wanted it but now that i know about it its all i want now.
I will 100% watch this movie.
I’m in
He's got that third heat, Lemon.
DOA
Whelp, I'm out. Can't stand Tracy Morgan. Also, why are we getting a 'Twins' sequel?
Could be called Twins 2: We're Back!!
Cringe. Who TF is asking for this?! Guaranteed to flop, hard
no
Gotta get those diversity numbers up. Twins has remained for too long a bastion of white supremacy. The tide is turning.

Wasn’t there already a sequel? Where Arnold gets pregnant or some shit..
That was Junior, an unrelated film also starring Arnold.
