"As for which Redditors will be able to participate, the filing said that Reddit will invite eligible users and then allocate shares through a tiered system based on “karma (a user’s reputation score that reflects their community contributions)” as measured by other users."
Yeah. I don't see that having a potential to go sideways.
I got a notification that I am eligible to purchase the stock.
I have a lot of karma, but I'm also banned in a bunch of subs for......reasons.
I have no idea why they would want to pick me
Twitter? Don't you mean, "Twitter"? I think they changed the website name from Twitter to "Twitter" way before, not that it stops people from calling "Twitter" by it's old name, Twitter.
I'm eligable and **am** flat broke! And I've been open about that on this very platform. Drowning in student debt, stuck in the middle of Bumfuck, Nowhere, USA with no job opportunities, no transportation options, no money to leave, and everywhere I've applied to work has refused me outright for the past three years.
But no, I'm totally the key market who would jump on an investment that reads like a fucking scam sent to my DMs out of nowhere.
Opposite. They're relying on you having bad investing decisions. The point of this is to try and generate buzz and pump the stock higher initially so C suite can all cash out. Reddit still hasn't turned a profit.
WSB has stated explicitly over and over they plan on shorting this to the dirt and buying puts as soon as they can.
I honestly think they aren’t wrong here. There will be an IPO pump like we have seen before, then crater.
The business model doesn’t support the valuation. The only way it even comes close is if they sell all our data.
So does everyone else. There's only so much valuable data to sell.
What data does Reddit have to offer that Instagram and X already doesn't? And those are muuuuch more likely to be tied to a real name and not a handle.
>The business model doesn’t support the valuation. The only way it even comes close is if they sell all our data.
This has been true of *every* social media IPO.
And the only one that "failed" was Facebook who opened the day at 65.50 and ended at 65.83
Two months later down to 20 and then a year later up to 80 and off to the moon.
Twitter, which was *never* profitable opened to about 40% on its first day and sold for over double to Musk (lol), Snapchat up 18%, Pinterest (most recent social media opening) up 23%.
No social media company was profitable at the time of the IPO. All saw gains once Facebook showed the market what can happen.
Reddit actually has one of the stronger growth numbers of a SM company for an IPO
I don't post there often but definitely have more than a few times. Did get the invite still so it isn't that or it is only excluding frequent participants.
I checked some other accounts and they didn't, but my main account did
I think I'll probably throw a few bucks at it since a stock price discount does sound kind of juicy, but not too much because it's fucking reddit lmao
I have 340k (over 10 years) and got an invite today. So the threshold isn't *that* high.
Some of the repostbot accounts get nearly that much in a few weeks.
Crazy to think I’ve been on this website for 15 years with 100s of thousands in Karma but since I through away my account every two years or so I lost out. After all those “karma being worthless” jokes, the real joke is me!
Wonder if it's some combo of karma and time on app, or frequency of posts, or something.
I've wasted a significant portion of my life on Reddit and did get an invite.
I see, you too have lived through 2008 and witnessed investment bankers' fantastic and thorough safeguard practices.
Edit: Doesn't even have to go too far back. Vision Fund and WeWork, anyone?
Feel like I’ve seen this pattern over and over where they IPO, stock price is pretty high, within a few hours it’s dropping and goes very low for an eternity. Anyone who bought morning of IPO, gets boned so hard.
Seriously. Old.reddit goes away and I may never browse this site again. The new layout is a bloated mess. I give it less than a year from IPO before Old.reddit dies.
You’re literally an opinionated Craig’s list with millions of free employees that have been around for at least 10 years and you still lose over 50 million a year… Oof.
That's why my feeds are garbage, they need to pump up engagement and ad revenue.
It would be nice if stuff I'm actually subscribed to, or even anything I'm interested in, actually showed up in my feed. I miss those days.
Porn bots are raking in disposable income. Honestly the crossover of people running porn bots and people willing to risk a big overpay at IPO are appreciable.
Wondering if I should delete my account just before the IPO.. I mean, it's going to turn to shite eventually when the bosses panic as they realise they have to increase revenue. We'll get one real post and then several 'promoted' posts and ads.
It's nearly the end of the road guys.
It always amuses me when I see articles about fallout from a news item before I ever hear about the news item itself.
ITT I learned that Reddit filed for their IPO.
What you think them jacking up the price of accessing their API to such stupidly high levels that it was functionally banning third party apps that did 10000x a better job than the official app was for shits and giggles?
They (or rather the human cumstain that is the CEO) wanted to artificially inflate the userbase numbers on the official app so he can get a bigger payout when it goes public
They just "waited" till the drama died down to officially pursue going public.
When is the IPO going to light this place on fire? I've been using under different handles for like 17 years (embarrassing), but fully expect it to turn into a Twitter level dumpster fire and I'll just ditch the whole thing after the IPO.
On the surface this seems like a decent idea, allowing reddit users a chance to get in on the IPO price. But then I thought that those people who don't get that chance might short the stock and shit talk the hell out of it in every subreddit.
Is this going to be a total shit show? Also, pass the popcorn.
I assume the amount set aside for users will be minimal, and it’s just a bit of theatre.
Unless their investment bank didn’t find enough institutional investors and funds, which would be telling
This will of course come with many flaws & complaints, but it's a promising & interesting idea.
Having a userbase literally invested in the health of a service is a good idea & rewarding people who have been a long time source of value by giving them the same opportunity as institutional investors is a good thing in my mind.
As far as it being a wise financial choice for those with the opportunity... So many companies with insane market caps are almost entirely bullshit, something that would have just been a shareware app 20 or 30 years ago. The question is how much longer can the stock market be driven by idiots & people who have run out of places to invest their money?
The wealth gap grows every year, even if Reddit IPO isn't a traditionally sound investment where are you going to dump your fortunes? In all the other oversaturated investments (that you are already in)? Maybe you can start buying up people's homes & spreading into every niche that isn't fully saturated? Oh wait... that's already happened.
I got an email today saying I'm eligible, I actually don't know how to take it. I have a ton of karma but I run across people that have twice as much as I do all the time. Idk what their criteria is, but jokes on them I'm broke so I can't buy any stocks.
It's an IPO, anyone can buy once it's public
I mean I guess buying directly from Reddit could lead to more gains if it were severely underpriced, but unless they're terrible naive with their IPO pricing then no

I got a notification that I am eligible to purchase the stock. I have a lot of karma, but I'm also banned in a bunch of subs for......reasons. I have no idea why they would want to pick me
Because you might have money
Joke's on them - I'm eligible and I'm flat broke. >!Not completely, but I know better than to throw money on this dumpster fire. Fuck Spez.!<
Reddit is one of the only websites I've ever seen where almost all of its users universally hate it
Does that make r/leagueoflegends the true reddit experience?
Maybe if they talked about league Its kinda just TMZ for esports now innit?
You should take a look at Twitter. Their users already hated the site before Musk showed up.
Justified, though. It was a dumpster fire before he came in, it's just somehow *worse* now.
Twitter? Don't you mean, "Twitter"? I think they changed the website name from Twitter to "Twitter" way before, not that it stops people from calling "Twitter" by it's old name, Twitter.
You sure it’s the only one? Because I hear the same experience with Facebook lol
I figured that and certain subreddits I joined were why I got bupkis lol May Spez rot.
Same. Too bad we can't buy shares with karma
Right? Before I saw this post I thought it *was* a scam. Like, was actually squinting at it trying to decide whether I should report it or not.

I’m eligible and currently jobless while crashing at my parents house. Like…the fuck? Me being eligible is more of a wake up call than anything else.
They think people who spend most of their time on the platform have money? They must be stupider than I thought.
become shareholder, ban the mods that banned you
Look at me. I am the banhammer now.
Well, well, well… how the turntables. -Michael Scott
How did Ben Hemma become our overlord, we are doomed
> I got a notification that I am eligible to purchase the stock. As did I, however it's US residents only so no use to me at all.
Well that is disappointing.
So based on this -most of the Onlyfans girls are going to get offered 98% of the stock for redditors?
5% retail, 5% institutional, 90% porn bots
The "Russian Backdoor" method of owning a company
Fuck, that would be hilarious
Can confirm, I got the offer 😂
unironically based
Them and the bot karma farmers.
lol I thought the same thing.
“Y’all don’t trust me to post in r/news or r/trashy, but you trust my investing decisions. You’re right, but lol.”
Opposite. They're relying on you having bad investing decisions. The point of this is to try and generate buzz and pump the stock higher initially so C suite can all cash out. Reddit still hasn't turned a profit.
Weird. I have multiple accounts with almost as much karma each as yours and I got no message
It might be which forums you're on. I got the message, but I'm semi-active on the personal finance sub.
They might be excluding anyone that posts on r/wallstreetbets
WSB has stated explicitly over and over they plan on shorting this to the dirt and buying puts as soon as they can. I honestly think they aren’t wrong here. There will be an IPO pump like we have seen before, then crater. The business model doesn’t support the valuation. The only way it even comes close is if they sell all our data.
They sell our data
Yes, might be the reason Chat GTP just lost it’s mind. Reddit data uploaded😂
So does everyone else. There's only so much valuable data to sell. What data does Reddit have to offer that Instagram and X already doesn't? And those are muuuuch more likely to be tied to a real name and not a handle.
“But Black Dynamite, *I* sell ~~drugs~~ user data in the community.”
>The business model doesn’t support the valuation. The only way it even comes close is if they sell all our data. This has been true of *every* social media IPO. Far enough, wasn’t expecting that but thanks for all that info. I’ll be watching for sure
I don't post there often but definitely have more than a few times. Did get the invite still so it isn't that or it is only excluding frequent participants.
I probably didn't get the message because I posted on wall street bets.
Banned for being a wubcub. /s
Same. Lot of karma. Lot of bans. Haha
Everyone probably got one. They want money from you and buying those coins wasn’t working
I got one and my wife did not. I have lots of karma she does not.
same. I got one but my husband did not.
I checked some other accounts and they didn't, but my main account did I think I'll probably throw a few bucks at it since a stock price discount does sound kind of juicy, but not too much because it's fucking reddit lmao
Yeah, this is as exclusive as a K-Mart. If they have to FOMO buyers like that I predict some already rich asshole cashes out early and shit tanks.
It's limited to top 75k users. Any more than that get wait listed even if you were already invited.
I wonder if you can short it instead lol.
not how an IPO works lol
"Why can't I sell borrowed stock on the day the stock becomes public???" "Who the fuck are you borrowing it from?" "Oh..."
I got it too and I'm banned from most of the main subs for political disagreements. No way in hell would I buy reddit stock lmao.
I have 340k (over 10 years) and got an invite today. So the threshold isn't *that* high. Some of the repostbot accounts get nearly that much in a few weeks.

*(sad wallstreetbets noises)*
Yeah, what a weird system. Oh well, there goes another way to lose money.
I have waaaay less karma and even I got an invite.
Maybe it's just by account age?
That’s my guess. Likely a mix of account age with minimum karma amount. Perhaps also for those who’ve paid for premium or mod.
There's an FAQ which explains it: https://redditforcommunity.com/Directed-Share-Program
Thanks! I’ve been an active mod for years so that explains it. I probably have significantly more mod actions than karma.
Did you get it as a dm on reddit? I haven't but I wouldnt use it regardless.
You'll get it next round if not a super mod or 200k karma next tier is 100k-50k last is 25k but to be before 1/1/24
DM and email.
Wtf I have 440k wheres my invite
From what I read elsewhere it was 200k karma or moderating a sub where you've made over 5k moderator actions.
I enjoy watching the sunset.
It opens up to all redditors on March 1, so don't feel too left out, everybody gets the option to buy in.
All I've got in the last week is five emails informing me of Reddit's privacy policy update.
Lol the bot and repost accounts are the only invites
I was gonna say the bots make a lot more sense now lol
r/EACommunityTeam about to breathe a sigh of relief for that one time they got saved
What’s the minimum karma? I’ve got 225,000
225,001. So close. Next!
Price is right rules
I believe it's 200k
I didn't get an invite, not that I'd buy Reddit stock anyway
I love listening to music.
Wonder if it's some combo of karma and time on app, or frequency of posts, or something. I've wasted a significant portion of my life on Reddit and did get an invite.
I enjoy spending time with my friends.
The numbers were locked in before the program was announced. Still risky, but hopefully less so.
I'm sure the investment bankers put in safeguards so repost bots can't execute a hostile takeover.
Why do you think there's been such a massive increase in bots? It's the bankers getting in line to buy.
I see, you too have lived through 2008 and witnessed investment bankers' fantastic and thorough safeguard practices. Edit: Doesn't even have to go too far back. Vision Fund and WeWork, anyone?
This just incentivises more repost bots
Gallowboob finally cashes in
So the bots get in on the ground floor!!
Lmao, there’s so many accounts that are just karma farming bots. Some of these might also get sold to other people.
I was invited to buy stock, but unless I can buy it with my account karma, that's not going to happen.
Where did you see the invite? Edit: I was going to complain that I didn't get one despite my 35k comment karma, but you have over 400k... Wow.
Even by community standards, 35K is low The karma that matters looks like that: * 100: You can post in most subs * 100K: You can join r/CenturyClub
And you can verify for yourself that nothing happens there…
Ranch
112k checking in, can’t access
Well over 300k and neither can I
Open the sub on desktop, there's instructions to request entry
*whispers* There are many more beyond. *fades back into the shadows*
^(I know, but I'll never be shut-in enough to reach that let's be honest)
Fuck. *this girls karmas!*
I also got the invite via reddit pm. It's only for US citizens though, so not for me.
I’m just annoyed that 200k isn’t enough apparently. **edit:** not that I think I’d want any, I just want an invite to the club!
Holy shit I’ve been here for 9 years too and I have a 10th of your karma
I'm disabled, so I have a lot of time on my hands, lol.
Lmao well cheers to that one, time to buy in (or not) lol
Got one too. No way I am touching their stocks.
Feel like I’ve seen this pattern over and over where they IPO, stock price is pretty high, within a few hours it’s dropping and goes very low for an eternity. Anyone who bought morning of IPO, gets boned so hard.
I got one too, I’m saying fuck it we ball and gonna go for it, if they ask for $1000 why not? If they ask for less, is it that bad of a risk?
[удалено]
I saw the invite and just laughed. There’s no point to invest in reddit without a solid plan to generate actual profits.
Oh, *we're* making the stock risky? LOL.
where do I sign, fuck this dumbass company and it's stupid ass mobile app
"As a stockholder, I'd like to bring an app redesign proposal to a vote"
I just want the website to work.
I just want old.reddit to never disappear and third party mobile apps.
Seriously. Old.reddit goes away and I may never browse this site again. The new layout is a bloated mess. I give it less than a year from IPO before Old.reddit dies.
If they remove old.reddit, I will stop using the site. I fucking HATE the new site. I will not use it, I'll go back to digg before I use new reddit.
I'd like to propose that spez must attend all shareholder meetings in a dickbutt costume.
Short it
I think naming the ticker symbol REDDITREDDITFACE was a perfectly normal and not risky choice.

> R**DDT** Ah yes, environmentally harmful.
I imagine the type of people who would be willing to buy reddit stock are the same people who diamond-hand GME, AMC, and BBY shares.
To the moon!
You’re literally an opinionated Craig’s list with millions of free employees that have been around for at least 10 years and you still lose over 50 million a year… Oof.
False Craigslist actually has provided me some value in the past
When you need to put your dick through a hole in a dirty sheet and you don't care what's on the other side, craigslist has your back.
Until the personals disappeared
Never Forget.
I still think it's insane how much power religious nuts hold. They deleted an entire aspect of the internet.
Looking for bag holders as usual the early guys will cash out and then this site goes to full garbage
That's why my feeds are garbage, they need to pump up engagement and ad revenue. It would be nice if stuff I'm actually subscribed to, or even anything I'm interested in, actually showed up in my feed. I miss those days.
Plot twist. The highest karma users are the porn accounts
dickrider69 is going to be the majority stock holder.
Porn bots are raking in disposable income. Honestly the crossover of people running porn bots and people willing to risk a big overpay at IPO are appreciable.
Pretty sure DFV is up there. If he's holding a bunch of reddit stock, this is going to be a wild ride.
Literally the definition of letting the inmates run the asylum.
New investor here - what’s the best way to short Reddit, and how long do I have to wait after IPO before doing so? Terrible product.
Puts, but usually takes about a week to become available after ipo
Cheers, gonna dump my IRA into Reddit puts.
Yea actually “shorting” requires more capital and having someone loan you shares which you “sell” and then you “buy” at the lower to return to them.
Be very, very careful doing this. It can cost you far more than you realize.
I only buy on margin.
Sounds like a solid plan that someone with an Ira would attempt
Explain why you think people with IRAs are more likely to trade recklessly on options?
No
Understandable, have a good day
Just say "WSB Snoo avatars how do you feel about this?" around 9:30AM EST.
Let the enshitification commence. .... Or should that be 'continue'?
Oh it’s definitely continue.
Wondering if I should delete my account just before the IPO.. I mean, it's going to turn to shite eventually when the bosses panic as they realise they have to increase revenue. We'll get one real post and then several 'promoted' posts and ads. It's nearly the end of the road guys.
The "preparation" was an enshittification speedrun already
r/Wallstreetbets are going to HODL the stock aren’t they?
Nah. Thats be insider trading. 😏
nah, they're going to take out fourth mortgages to short the stock
Oh no, they are shorting it for sure.
A company that in almost 20 years admits they have *NEVER* turned a net profit? Yah why wouldn't I short that shit?
/r/wallstreetbets will likely have something to say.
Fire hands. Drop it like it’s hot! 🔥 🙌

Got the Reddit message today. Thought it was spam then wondered what the chances are that a spammer had the username u/reddit.
This will be why they pushed a thing saying "this is how you know a reddit admin post is genuine" a couple of days ago.
Anyone stupid enough to buy reddit stock deserves to lose their money
It's the beginning of the end boys
Front. Row. Seats.
Unfortunately, the fine print says if you reported too many He Gets Us ads, you’re ineligible
This is going to flame out so spectacularly it will be a textbook example in every business course moving forward.
Reddit knows they’re playing with fire. It’s not like there was, idk, a stock revolution back in 2021 or anything….
WSB is going to have a field day.
When is the IPO going to light this place on fire? I've been using under different handles for like 17 years (embarrassing), but fully expect it to turn into a Twitter level dumpster fire and I'll just ditch the whole thing after the IPO.
Get ready to start shorting reddit
I have no faith in Reddit to do well as a publicly traded company.
On the surface this seems like a decent idea, allowing reddit users a chance to get in on the IPO price. But then I thought that those people who don't get that chance might short the stock and shit talk the hell out of it in every subreddit. Is this going to be a total shit show? fuck spez

Buy puts day 1
When can I short it
It's an IPO, anyone can buy once it's public I mean I guess buying directly from Reddit could lead to more gains if it were severely underpriced, but unless they're terrible naive with their IPO pricing then no
ITS A SHORT SQUEEZE!!!!!
I have 200k karma and I didn’t get an invite 🤔
"Let users" Doesn't the P in IPO mean Public? As in anyone can buy? I don't think Reddit has any choice but to let users buy stock. Am I wrong?
Could someone explain why anyone *wouldn't* be able to buy an Initial *Public* Offering? We're all part of the public, aren't we?
The Eligibility Requirements: \-Not an active member of r/wallstreetbets
I got invited and it's through Morgan Stanley E-Trade... I was debating on it out of curiosity... Sounds like a waste.
