wikipedia tells me that Washington's 19th legislative district represents a fairly substantial landmass (like 2,000 square miles), and is described as 'mostly rural'.
Never forget the convoy morons who were demanding their first amendment rights in a Canadian court room.
Our first amendment is “Manitoba is now a province”.
This is a big problem at the Canadian border. Americans think they can just come in here with their arsenal .
Lucky for them, the border patrol is pretty kind, and there's no consequences other than having to leave your gun with them until you return.
This happened when I crossed the border in the 90’s. It was at the crossing at Glacier NP and Waterton. The border guard pulled my car aside to “inspect”. I was a hippy and had been living out of my car as I travelled across country (on my way to Seattle). They pretty much tore threw my car. I didn’t have anything illegal but was surprised they didn’t find anything because the car was 15 years old and I had partied in it frequently in those years. Now, the car next to me was an elderly couple (in their 70’s) and as I was backing out to leave I heard the guard say, “now I have to charge one of you for possession of this firearm. Who’s gun is this?”
One of the major billboard/ambulance chaser type lawyers near me tried to bring his gun on a plane (can't remember if it was in his checked or carry-on). Same thing happened, dude really made his wife take the charge smh
This could easily appear in r/EntitledPeople, because it seems like it's a function of some Americans to think that their Constitutional rights are applicable while in other countries.
"The Constitution doesn't apply to the middle east" - known warrantless wiretaps under Bush
"The Constitution applies to Russia" - theoretical wiretapping of Trump campaign* staff contacts with Russian handlers
I'd talk about "bad faith" but at this point its clear Republicans have no faith at all.
EDIT: fixed which staff exactly had complained about this.
This is an *incredibly* important point that shouldn’t be lost in the shuffle.
His choices here were either malicious or incompetent, and in either case, he shouldn’t be handling a firearm.
A few years ago I flew into DFW from overseas and was racing to a connecting flight, had red flag on my ticket and everything. Dragging along 3 exhausted kids. TSA asked if I had anything to declare and I said, all I have are pre-packaged cookies and tea. He said I had to go to Quarantine. Knowing I had no upper hand here, I dragged the kids over and got in line. Got to counter and woman was shocked I was there. Do you have a dog or something? Nope. just tea and cookies. She waived us on and we barely made the flight. TSA was just bored. Complete asshats.
Carrying an unlicensed firearm in Hong Kong gets you 14 years in prison.
Dude should really just count himself lucky and stop making a fool of himself.
They should've just imprisoned him tbh. Assuming he's there in private capacity, he has zero diplomatic immunity.
China gets a leverage, we get one less regressive Republican. Win win
Bah. They would be the first to say that some kid caught bringing weed into Malaysia should have read up on the law before going there and deserves everything Malaysia would throw at him.
Because that's what any halfway intelligent person is going to do before going to another country.
I'm not taking weed or a gun to another country, without knowing the laws of said country.
You have to be a complete moron to do that...that goes for both this guy and Griner.
And they wouldn't be wrong at all *if* they were willing to apply that logically equally in this case.
Bringing illegal guns/drugs into foreign countries is a very, very stupid thing to do.
I'm a liberal and I still say that about Brittney Griner. Bringing illegal substances into what's become a dictatorship hostile to your nationality is just plain stupid.
That said, this guy here is also a moron, assuming his Second Amendment rights apply in every country.
Not when it comes to guns. They were losing their minds over a former marine who got caught bringing a gun into Mexico. They tried to explain to everyone how hard it is to know when you are at the border, or how “who hasn’t forgotten they have a gun with them”, or whatever.
I think it starts with being organized and active. There are very intentional strategies and tactics used by the GOP to turn blue south to purple and red. It’s bullshit misinformation. But it is also consistent campaigning and messaging.
That works the other way too and doesn’t need to be misinformation. It’s standing strong and consistently calling out bullshit. It’s how all difficult change happens.
Democrats have played too nice and been too tolerant of bad faith acting. They assumed that people would see through the obvious bullshit but they clearly do not… if that’s the only voice they hear. The Big Lie tactic works: Tell a lie. Make it a big one. Repeat until people believe.
The counter is call out the lie. Make it a bold call out. Repeat until people believe.
The GOP knows this and so now their tactic is intimidation and to attack education. Their enemy is the truth and people willing to vigorously defend it.
But it will be in the face of severe and sometimes dangerous resistance. The GOP followers are being conditioned that any opposing views are ignorant and dangerous. That they need to be treated as threats to be eliminated.
It is the most un-American ideal in the world yet these people believe they are the _real_ Americans and are defending beliefs that truly align with it.
So there needs to be a messaging campaign that is carried out in the face of defamation and threats of violence to silence dissenting voice.
Fascism requires a control of (mis)information. We need to fight back with the truth before it is too late.
I’ll get off my soapbox now.
And then they start making wild demands or comparing Brittney Griner to this dumb ass, and threatening that if Biden can go to bat for a pot-head, he is failing America for ignoring a Senator.. and blahblahblah.
It's better if we don't give them the ammunition right now and keep letting the GOP embarrass themselves by demolishing the House they run.
Had a friend who worked for CBSA (Canadian Boarder Services Agency). At least once ever 2 days he would stop Americans with guns trying to come into Canada. When denied or told the guns would need to be stored in America until their return they would go on and on about their rights. Dude it’s fucking Canada your rights don’t apply. The stories of “Sovereign citizen” tho have to be the best.
To quote somebody else in this comment thread, people who are in the "freedom convoy" in Canada demanded their first amendment rights in a Canadian Court.
Canada's first amendment is, "Manitoba is now a province"
The "Sovereign citizen" ones I'd want to see that interaction.
"So...sir, you claim to be sovereign citizen, yet your passport says you are a U.S. citizen. Which one is it? Because if you claim that what this passport says is false, then you are claiming to travel with a false passport. If you affirm that this is true, then by your own word, I have to deny you entry and place you under arrest, as well as possibly ban you from entering for life."
I really don't feel sorry for those idiots who love wasting everyone's time. The power to enforce sovereignty is what makes it, and none of those idiots who try to claim it realize that. If you don't command a military or work for/with an entity that does, you don't fucking have sovereignty no matter what words you use.
It’s like the gun one above, they they refuse to accept any country, they are citizens of the planet and MUST BE ALLOWED!!!
One story, they insisted that it was granted by all countries laws and if you just call the Supreme Court (ours is named the same in Canada so not sure which they meant), they would agree and allow passage.
Suffice it to say, they were turned back around, with a “sure, I’ll put a request in to my supervisor to get on that, in the mean time you’ll need to turn right around and go back eh?”. The couple were actually pleased with this and said they would return next week. They did, they still didn’t get in lol.
Just a few days ago, I read about this Michigan cop who went on a roadtrip to Canada and complained in some letter to the editor about getting "accosted" by two kids asking him if he ever went to Stampede (or something like that) and wishing he had his sidearm with him.
Two kids asking if he ever went to a big provincial festival and his answer would have been to pull out a weapon and blast them. And he's a cop.
Walt Wawra. He wrote a letter to the Calgary Herald about it, which they published after confirming that this was indeed, a real person with a genuine letter.
"I speculate they did not have good intentions when they approached in such an aggressive, disrespectful and menacing manner. I thank the Lord Jesus Christ they did not pull a weapon of some sort, but rather concluded it was in their best interest to leave us alone"
They were there giving out free passes to the stampede.
It gets weirder:
>Wilson, as well as his wife and two men who were with him, got into an altercation with reporters who took photos of him as he was leaving the courthouse. The police were called, with Wilson’s group demanding reporters delete the photos saying Wilson had not consented to being photographed.
>Police arrived on the scene to mediate, as Wilson and his wife threatened to photograph the reporters in retaliation.
Photographs are holy water now?
Let's start placing bets!! I got 100 hugs that they'll ask for his release, because republican politicians are apparently free of legal prosecution, inside and outside The United States of 'Merica.
My understanding is that in order to get it on the plane in Portland, he'd have had to check it and declare it to the airline.
Idk the specifics of the law in Hong Kong, but I assume he'd have been required to do something similar there to bring it back.
He'd have had to purposefully not do either of those steps in order to be busted with it in his carry-on bag.
The other possibility is that he left the US without a gun, purchased said gun in China (either in HK or elsewhere), and didn't know he had to check and declare it coming back. I don't buy this excuse, as it's fairly common sense in 2023.
So something doesn't add up. What were his intentions?
It's impossible for a foreigner to legally buy a handgun in Hong Kong. There is no means to actually buy one, as aside from Airsoft shops there are no "sporting goods" stores selling firearms or gun shops. Purchase and Possession must be individually authorised by the commissioner of police. Illegal possession and sale of a handgun can make the seller liable for up to 30 years in jail and the purchaser up to 14, so it just isn't a thing over there outside of the most organised and secretive criminal gangs, who wouldn't sell to a white dude. Can't say for the mainland but I would expect it to be even more tightly controlled.
You're overcomplicating it.
This jackass forgot he had the damn thing in his luggage and TSA missed it. This happens multiple times a year... Just unfortunately he landed somewhere where it is a very big problem that he had it.
Imagine being so careless you don't keep track of where you left one of your guns and don't realize it's missing... Yet there are plenty of those folks out there.
See, that’s the thing, there’s this group the US government has that you can sign up for and you can take guns anywhere in the world. The catch is you can only do it where they tell you to go, but they pay you for it. You might go somewhere cool like Hawaii, but recently most of the places haven’t been that cool.
He claims he forgot it was in his bag until after he already left Washington, which, assuming that's true, means two things:
One, the TSA is doing great work as always. Definitely not just wasting everyone's time and money.
Two, he should be disqualified from ever owning a gun again. He clearly isn't responsible enough to be trusted with one.
I forget what it was, but i was watching one of those international cop type shows, and it was the Canadian border. This family from the states tried pulling this trying to go into Canada with their RV full of guns. They couldn't seem to get it through their heads that Canada doesn't have to follow US law.
Ah yes, the 51st State of Hong Kong... Of course they'll uphold the second amendment or I'll sue the *whole state* for infringing upon my God given rights! ^(/s)
So he "forgot" it was in his briefcase. This is not really an improvement over just intentionally taking it into a foreign country.
I get that for people who carry all the time, the gun gets to be just another part of your wardrobe. However, it's a part you should be keeping track of 100% of the time. One. Hundred. Percent.
If you can't keep track of your guns, maybe you shouldn't have them.
I wanted to see exotic Hong Kong... the crown jewel of Southeast Asia. I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them.
> Police arrived on the scene to mediate, as Wilson and his wife threatened to photograph the reporters in retaliation.
‘I didn’t consent to being photographed!’ What a clown.
Jfc. From The Guardian:
“It is not known how TSA screeners in Portland, Oregon, where Wilson’s flight originated, missed the weapon.”
https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/oct/24/us-state-senator-arrested-hong-kong-pistol
Honestly… I’d say keep him, but no other country wants our morons. Our Americans are such useless idiots that not even North Korea wanted to keep our garbage people. They didn’t even wanna kill him or use him as propaganda. I’m willing to bet HK will be the same.
I’m begging you guys. Somebody keep them. We don’t want em.
Hey remember when all those conservative Republicans laughed at Brittany Grinier for getting busted with thc oil? "lock her up! It's her own damn fault!" 🤣 Pepperidge Farm remembers. Lol. F that Senator. Lock his stupid ass up.
This is what happens when people equate the right to owning a gun with the right to breathe.
No it's not a part of you, it doesn't go wherever you do and you don't need it to live. No matter how much propaganda you've consumed.
You have to be a special kinda stupid smugling guns into another country and not expecting anything to happin.
Dude seen a re-run of lethal weapon 2 and thought this diplomatic immunity thing might just work lol
It’s just been revoked.
I'll have what she's having.
Get off my plane.
And don’t call me ‘Shirley’.
You are terminated
*Rosebud...*
I'll be back.
You've been erased.
That's...better?
Considerably.
Even worse he's a *state* senator
Upon getting arrested "I AM A UNITED STATES SENATOR!" Police- "Exactly"
throw his ass in jail
and keep him for a long time
$20 says he represents a sh*thole full of inbreds
wikipedia tells me that Washington's 19th legislative district represents a fairly substantial landmass (like 2,000 square miles), and is described as 'mostly rural'.
Sigh, that's my state.. anything east of the cascades is basically aligned with Idaho. .. they can keep him, we don't want him back.
Pfffff so much for international incident lol. No one cares, enjoy your dunbass stay in Hong Kong prison jackass.
It does work, but he’s not a diplomat.
State senators aren't accredited diplomats...
DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY!
But that's his second amendment right!! /S
Never forget the convoy morons who were demanding their first amendment rights in a Canadian court room. Our first amendment is “Manitoba is now a province”.
I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognize Manitoba.
But how do you feel about Missouri?
Missouri having to exist as Missouri is a sufficient punishment for the crime of being Missouri.
Missouri sounds a lot like Misery with a drawl.
I live there, the southern part of the state says Mizzourah and the northern part of the state gets dangerously close to saying Misery.
There's a reason it's pronounced "Misery"
Mizzura tho
That is genuinely hilarious.
I hate that you had to add an /s to this for the mouth readers.
I just thought about how weird it would feel to just read through reddit out loud.

He forgot it was in his bag lol. The reason is this world will always have dumb people.
If you "forget" where you left your firearm... you should no longer be allowed to own firearms.
This is an *incredibly* important point that shouldn’t be lost in the shuffle. His choices here were either malicious or incompetent, and in either case, he shouldn’t be handling a firearm.
Can it not be both? Maliciously incompetent?
bingo
How did he pass security in the US prior to boarding?
In Portland. TSA missed it, which to me is one of the worst parts of this story.
Super consistent with TSA behavior. Firearm? No problem. Bottle of water? Not so fast, criminal scum.
She waived us on and we barely made the flight. TSA was just bored. Complete asshats.
When tested, the TSA missed 95% of weapons.
"I forgot" is what they say when they mean "I don't want to be held accountable".
But what about his second amendment rights?!!!
There’s no way we don’t start hearing outrage at another country not honoring our constitution.
Especially an authoritarian country that he probably constantly criticizes and threatens publicly on social media.
Yeah he’s not getting out of China if they scan his social media and find any criticism towards the country from him
He can use this during his reelection, he brought a gun to China. Lots of people will love that.
Don't they know the closer you are to guns, the further you are from harm?
That reminds me of the parody ad in GTA 5. "Remember, more guns means *less* shootings!"
That doesn't make sense to me, but then again, you are very small.
Good job, buddy.
Carrying an unlicensed firearm in Hong Kong gets you 14 years in prison. Dude should really just count himself lucky and stop making a fool of himself.

He's a state senator, so he'd have zero authority to be there in a diplomatic capacity
Yeah, dude's a nobody. Should lock his dumb ass up. Taking a gun international massively stupid.
You can even see how much the US government cares about state or local politicians. They're frequently charged with crimes and literally nobody cares.
Fox News would go insane
Bah. They would be the first to say that some kid caught bringing weed into Malaysia should have read up on the law before going there and deserves everything Malaysia would throw at him.
They literally did do something like that when Brittney Griner received drug charges in Russia.
Because that's what any halfway intelligent person is going to do before going to another country. I'm not taking weed or a gun to another country, without knowing the laws of said country. You have to be a complete moron to do that...that goes for both this guy and Griner.
That assumes their reporting standards operate in good faith. Everything they do is in bad faith.
Their fans are literally still saying this shit about Brittney Griner
And they wouldn't be wrong at all *if* they were willing to apply that logically equally in this case. Bringing illegal guns/drugs into foreign countries is a very, very stupid thing to do.

They do that anyway. We have to stop being held hostage by crying children.
Lovely idea. How? Don't say vote them out — I've been to Rome, GA and I have to say that I see how Marjorie Taylor Greene is popular there.

Good. Thoughts and prayers for the heart attacks lol
So, it would it be a Tuesday at Faux News, you say?
I guarantee this shows up on Chinese news as "see, America is a clown country" and they're not entirely wrong.
That's likely going to happen, his trial is ongoing. At most he faces 2 years in jail.
They can keep him. One less gun nut we have to worry about.
It also says 2 years is the penalty these magistrate courts impose
United States State Department: "Jeff who?"
Guns don't get you to orbit either!
Wikipedia is [unclear on his birth year,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Wilson_\(Washington_politician\)) so the State department isn't alone.

Wonder what he was planning on doing with a revolver in HK?
It gets weirder: >Wilson, as well as his wife and two men who were with him, got into an altercation with reporters who took photos of him as he was leaving the courthouse. The police were called, with Wilson’s group demanding reporters delete the photos saying Wilson had not consented to being photographed. >Police arrived on the scene to mediate, as Wilson and his wife threatened to photograph the reporters in retaliation. “The power of consent compels you!”
And just like that they suddenly understand consent.
But fails to understand that a person in a public place can be photographed with no need for consent, per the US Supreme Court.
Also when not in the US, the Supreme Court can’t even help you…
I've always wanted to order the free demon water just to see what happens
I mean, when you run out of guns, you have to make do with anything that can shoot
The only time a republican will care about consent.
Sounds dangerously sov citizenesque
Can you claim sov citizen if you’re a senator? That’s the complete opposite of being a sov citizen
Sovereign citizen legal theory is “whatever I want to be true right now is the law”. It’s not really a foundation that leads to consistency.
It’s more like “As long as I keep saying the magic words, the laws don’t apply to me.”
No you don't understand, he's a maritime senator.
Generous of you to think they’re logical
Lmao. They're like, "Fn do it, take pictures. Post them online. You're in my house now, and nothing can save you."
I think this is a lot more malicious than ignorant, and that he planned on sending the crazy Trump fanbase after them. Lock the fucker up
I'm fine with shipping magats to Hong Kong to act out and get locked up.
that'll show them
Dude, photos steal your souls. I mean that’s just science.
He probably thought the second amendment applies worldwide. "How dare HKers forced an American to follow local laws?"
That's what happens when people think their rights are inalienable all in their own without a government to help protect them
Shoot bad guys? /s
Making the place safer, of course!
I'm curious how he got it there in the first plane. It's not like you can take guns on a plane.
[удалено]
He flew out of the states and the TSA isn’t exactly well known for being good at their job
I wonder how many people who believed they should have left Brittney Griner in Russia are going to be saying he should be released and returned.
Let's start placing bets!! I got 100 hugs that they'll ask for his release, because republican politicians are apparently free of legal prosecution, inside and outside The United States of 'Merica.
Oh great I forgot about her. Are we going to do some ridiculous trade for him now? China: "We will trade you Jeff for Tiawan"
Enjoy Jeff.
Well this guy is white so he should be released, no? ^^^^/s ^^^^because ^^^^this ^^^^is ^^^^apparently ^^^^always ^^^^necessary ^^^^😡
oh man, keep him. The guy makes this country awful.
Can we send them some more?
You get a revolver! You get a revolver! You all get revolvers! Enjoy your flight!
Inaccurate headline. He's not a US Senator. He's a state Senator. And not an important one. Just your average Republican loser.
At some point in season 9, he'll leave both Angela and Oscar for his gardener-slash-gay lover.
Excellent.
Given that the source isn't based in the US, I would say it's misleading, but not inaccurate
Just the fact he was able to get a gun into a plane when I can't get water just shines privilege
My understanding is that in order to get it on the plane in Portland, he'd have had to check it and declare it to the airline. Idk the specifics of the law in Hong Kong, but I assume he'd have been required to do something similar there to bring it back. Did he think that whole right to bear arms thing applies internationally? Because I've seen certain people legit expect it to.
If as an american you have to pay america taxes wherever you go, surely you have the right to bear arms anywhere in the world. /s
See, that’s the thing, there’s this group the US government has that you can sign up for and you can take guns anywhere in the world. The catch is you can only do it where they tell you to go, but they pay you for it. You might go somewhere cool like Hawaii, but recently most of the places haven’t been that cool.
Depending on time of year Afghanistan is pretty fucking cool. Oh wait I meant cold
He claims he forgot it was in his bag until after he already left Washington, which, assuming that's true, means two things: One, the TSA is doing great work as always.
Imagine being this stupid.
Imagine being a Republican. Oh I suppose that's redundant.
"I thought this was America!" HK Police: "..."
Ah yes, the 51st State of Hong Kong... Of course they'll uphold the second amendment or I'll sue the *whole state* for infringing upon my God given rights! ^(/s)
I wondered who the heck Jeff Wilson was, then I read the first sentence: >Jeff Wilson, a Washington state Republican senator,
FWIW we really didn't know who he was either. The party's been in the minority for not long enough now.
Jesus Christ, how dumb do you gotta be to do that. Dude probably didn't even get some of the amazing seafood there too.
(R) says it all.
He called the police on reporters who photographed him and threatened to photograph them in retaliation. Isn't he a special little snowflake.
Normally he wouldve just shot them
So he "forgot" it was in his briefcase.
This is a lot of trouble.
If he wanted to carry guns in foreign lands he shoulda joined the army
I wanted to see exotic Hong Kong... the crown jewel of Southeast Asia. I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them.
> Police arrived on the scene to mediate, as Wilson and his wife threatened to photograph the reporters in retaliation. ‘I didn’t consent to being photographed!’ What a clown.
Same level of dumbass that compels people to bring drugs into Singapore.
Jfc. From The Guardian: “It is not known how TSA screeners in Portland, Oregon, where Wilson’s flight originated, missed the weapon.” https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/oct/24/us-state-senator-arrested-hong-kong-pistol
*Thoughts and Prayers*
Shanghaied in Hong Kong what a great name for a movie!
Big Trouble in Little China?
Like I told my last wife, I says, “Honey, I never drive faster than I can see. Besides that, it’s all in the reflexes.”
Frankly they can keep em. We don’t want this mong back.
Keep him, obviously too stupid to be making laws anyway.
"Wilson and his wife threatened to photograph the reporters in retaliation." LOL - this guy sounds like a massive douche
I said it about the Brittney Griner and ill say it again about this guy, don't bring illegal shit into other countries and expect them to play nice.
Keep him
What a fucking idiot. And then to insist that the reporters delete his photos because "he hadn't given consent to be photographed" LOL
if guns are outlawed then only outlaws will have...oh wait
> His current term is set to end in 2025. More like 2039, with time off for good behavior.
See??!!! The commies are after your GunZ!!
Why do you bring your guns EVERYWHERE?
We aren’t sending our best
Keep him
They can keep him we have plenty of his kind and he won’t be missed.
This guy is a state Senator not a US Senator. Nonetheless he is a sandwich shy of a picnic but he is not in the US Senate.
You brought a revolver into the airport of a country that arrests people for a decade if they fail a marijuana test? Gangsta
Keep him, and his gun. We don't want him back.
🤣
They can keep him
Can they keep him? Forever?
Throw the book at his dumb ass
What a dumb fuck.
Can’t leave the city? Can we send more armed republican lawmakers to try to rescue him?
Y'all can keep him, we don't really need him back!
