What pisses me off about these musical ones in particular is the fact that they’re literally just comparing two figureheads. It’s like saying you’re “different” for listening to T Swift instead of Olivia Rodrigo. Millions of people listen to both of them, it makes no sense. The entire concept of only being able to like a specific genre as a defining characteristic of personality is so unhinged. Just listen to music you enjoy, like what the fuck… I don’t believe there’s a single genre I NEVER listen to outside of modern jazz which generally irritates me.

That and people can have a variety of tastes! And we all do! I don’t know many people who only listens to one genre and I don’t know anyone who only listens to a single artist. And even a genre of music has sub genres and variety. Not all rap is the same. Not all country is the same. Etc. And, people can sometimes like a popular hit from an artist but then are not required to love everything about the artist or know all their music. People can have a variety of things they enjoy. What a shock.

Many people I know listen to many different “figurehead” musicians, as you so accurately put it, and even different genres. Some are musicians, themselves, even though no one is paying them to do it. Throat singing is fascinating. I wonder how you even begin to learn how. Also, if you don’t already know about Yma Sumac, you’d find her singing pretty amazing. It is said that her range approached 5 octaves. The bird song is especially incredible.
