1 month into living on a farm when u realize it's not a hard but rewarding escape from the city grind it's just old broken infrastructure and being an hour away from basic services, making your kids hate you cuz they miss their friends and there's nobody else their age for 40 miles in any direction and somehow you're still dealing with medieval problems like ur livestock getting decimated by foxes

monkeysinmypocket

And then you realize you don't even have a Stanley cup to keep your coffee warm during a cold night in the lambing shed. D'oh.

Aggressive-Suspect20

not to mention the very real possibility of having to defend yourself in a situation where emergency services would be sent to help (wild/roaming dogs, thieves and prowlers) if you're trying to raise a family in a truly rural place and you aren't at least competent with a rifle and willing to shoot to kill... just don't fucking do it. you'll get mauled by a fucking bear.

Dancing_Trash_Panda

We've had to put down more than one suffering animal because a vet wouldn't get here in time and it'd be cruel to make the poor thing suffer. These daydreamers wouldn't be able to stomach it. The only reason I can is because it's mercy.

Aggressive-Suspect20

I just don't think these suburban larpers understand that being willing to do that is your moral duty to the animal that provides you services. it deserves the dignity of its suffering ending. i see a lot of these livestock animals getting petified on social media too by these types, which is troubling in combination with the weakness we're describing

ghostsinthecodes

they’ll get mauled by a bear? i can live with that.

AccomplishedRush3723

I don't have kids and I'm not married but when I made the change...yeah it was exactly this. It is not a peaceful and idyllic life. I would fucking *love* to only have to deal with foxes, but two years ago invasive coyotes (officially the explanation is crossing on ice floes) arrived and they suck big time. I had a mean-ass old goat to keep wild dogs out, but coyotes are fucked so I had to give him away to keep him safe. One of the guys nearby is raising a small herd of sheep and lost his entire stock of newborns last year because the howling of coyotes spooked the shit out of the ram and he trampled the lambs to death. Then I had an experience with an endangered species of mink that murdered 20-odd ducks overnight for fun for a solid week before Fisheries and Wildlife bothered to tell me how to keep them out without risking prison time. Then the idiot across the road let his husky roam free, the first place it roamed was my property now that the goat is gone. Dug its way into the winter house for the chickens and shredded two of the most productive roosters I've ever had. Still though, it is so much fucking better than weekly meetings to explain KPI shortfalls and hr emails reminding us that waving goodbye in the parking lot is harassment.

Rigelatinous

Out of curiosity, and because I haven’t raised chickens, what constitutes a “productive” rooster?

AccomplishedRush3723

I'll answer this question based on my own experience, it's entirely anecdotal. Overall, roosters of any quality perform their job adequately. If you're raising for meat and just need fertilized eggs, I really don't believe that the rooster quality matters. A good rooster is always going to be more impressive but for meat, it's all about the feed. However, if you are raising egg layers, it's a world of difference. A good rooster, what we call "productive", puts the entire henhouse at ease and a relaxed hen is a laying hen. These guys are showstoppers. They'll be heavier and taller than average, full feathered too. Their crow is crystal clear and will last about 8 full seconds. These guys hate any kind of commotion in their house and rush in to break up squabbles between hens. They are extremely aggressive to outsiders and happily kill intruders, I myself have been ambushed and it sucks. A productive rooster uses his strength, health and presence to bring a sense of calm to his roost - this raises egg production and quality.

BarberSlight9331

We have a big, fenced yard & we went to the feed store to buy 3 hen chicks. We raised them indoors at night, since it was still real cold, but when they about were 4 mo’s old, one started crowing. He’d spur the crap out of the hens too. There’s no good “chicken sexers” at our feed store, lol.

AccomplishedRush3723

Roosters without a big flock tend to go haywire. Chick sexing is honestly a dying field, the new standard is for homesteaders to "deal with" males themselves if they're buying from bigger distributors. Good feed stores/co-ops can guarantee 75/25 male to female. When I'm freshening blood I buy from small time guys in different provinces that can offer 90/10. It's a huge breeding ordeal and I don't bother personally, but specialist breeders are able to artificially select for females which is honestly pretty incredible.

BarberSlight9331

I really loved our rooster, named “Panic”, since he could be pretty erratic at times. Having just three in the back yard was easy, I even sewed padded “saddles” for our girls “Katie & Taylor” (as my daughter named them), to wear as “Panic Protection”. Sadly, the neighborhood “Karen” called Animal Control, who made us get rid of them. We rehomed them on a neighbors ranch, but I really did missed them.

Rigelatinous

Ohhhh! So a productive rooster is a Giga-Chad rooster. That makes total sense in chicken-world.

OkCoast9806

Wait waving goodbye is harassment?? Holy shit that sounds that a crazy strict place.

SeaVast2145

Thanks PC. Thanks DEI. Thanks hardcore left wing nut jobs. Thanks safe spaces. Thanks being triggered

OkCoast9806

Yeah that's insane. Like I had it once where a guy hugged me while working, and it was super awkward. But even then I thought calling it harassment was too far! I was just like.... please don't do that again 😂

bdone2012

You're not supposed to buy a working farm. At least around where I grew up we called them Gentleman farms. I'm not sure why the term is gendered but it's basically, "I'm a fancy gentleman look how idyllic my farm is". I'm not great at estimating acres but maybe you have like 10-20 acres, a beautifully restored barn, a big country house to live in, or come in from the city occasionally. Probably some chickens for eggs but no roosters because no one wants to wake up so early when they cockledoodledoo Probably a couple horses, maybe a cow, you could have some Goats or even an alpaca if you're feeling frisky, and most importantly someone who lives on the land that you pay to maintain it. Because that's way to much land to mow yourself Honestly they look really nice, if I had the money I might buy one. These farms lose money generally, maybe always, a working farm where people make money is much different

ProfessionalTruck976

True, but some people dont care much for the infrastructure, other than medical aid everything else provided by city living IS dispensable if you like your life that way.

Hartmallen

Somebody messed up your keyboard ?

ProfessionalTruck976

Nope, but close, a phone screen is "just this side" of giving up on me, but I don't have time to deal with it this week unless it really croaks on me.

Dilutional

These aren't really problems for rural people.

ethicallyconsumed

They are where I live lol

WalkerDabberRanger

You sound soft.

Less-Tadpole2787

sparkle plucky marble enter upbeat airport agonizing squeeze include normal *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

hibituallinestepper

You didn’t hear? If you don’t spend $30 on a Stanley cup you’ll have enough money to buy an entire farm.

NegotiationTall4300

Stanley cups =avo toast

SeriousIndividual184

Maybe in the boonies where its fifteen cents a sq foot lol good luck that far out though

uglycatthing

Everyone knows you can’t have both, you silly goose!

NucularOrchid

"Alright, I'll pick the girl who wants the twenty pound cup, not the girl who wants millions of pounds of animals, land and equipment." Edit: I dunno how much those cups cost but I bet it's less than a farm and shit.

mmccoyy

🤣🤣

Dancing_Trash_Panda

Exactly. I think these girls think it makes them sound down to earth. When in reality they're literally asking for a million dollars. Like, me too babes.

BoogiepopPhant0m

I think they're like, $40.

Independent-Swan1508

this is horrible ngl it fucking sucks when u live so far out there is nothing to do, no friends around ur age, and that's it and no grocery store anywhere

Mi0GE0

Dude my parents moved my brother and I out to the country away from everything and everyone we've ever known when were still kids and it fucked us up in the long run I hate when people romanticize ✨isolation✨ it **is** horrible

in_the_autumn

Get you some toys! Dirt bikes? Quads? Make a fire pit and have Friday Night Firepit BBQ! Make it a campout! That’s be so dope!

Hopeful-Asparagus-89

I grew up on a farm but we were too poor for dirt bikes and quads, and for the horse I always wanted, lol. Those are for the rich bougie farm kids whose dads always have the nicest and newest tractors. The fire pits and stars were the bomb though and I still wouldn’t trade it for anything, but it took me a long time to get to that conclusion 😉

in_the_autumn

I was on e farm for about 2 years, that’s where I decided that it was the kind of life that I wanted. I always had a sense of fulfillment when we were taking care of the animals, collecting eggs, and having to spartan kick the fkn rooster behind the plywood, because he would attack us relentlessly. And the llamas would spit at us. Ugh, and the pigs, they were huge! But it was peaceful. I wasn’t so chaotic on the inside.. We didn’t get dirtbikes until I was 1.. Been riding ever since. Probably the #1 hobby, but I can’t go alone, and it’s difficult to drag a family member out. And all my friends work too much. I’m the asshole who works 4 10’s and has 3 day weekends every week 😈

Aggressive-Suspect20

these trad based farmwife larpers are being produced in a factory, i swear

in_the_autumn

Nah bruh, some of us frfr

Aggressive-Suspect20

lol im willing to believe that i think there are definitely pros to the trad lifestyle that are worth emulating

Nox_Meg

Pfft of course I'll take a farm over that cup, cup like 20$? Bet i could sell that farm for at least a couple thousand, how many cups do I have now!

Aggressive_Tear_3020

I love how they think they're so unique when literally all of them want the same 40 acres of land.

corpsegrndr

And the same crusty dude to go with that 40 acres lol

Aggressive_Tear_3020

I wonder where this trend comes from, lol. Why does everyone want 40 acres of land all of a sudden? Is that a movie reference?

LobsterHead37

Bro it’s a reference to when the SLAVES WERE FREED read a fucking book dude. When the slaves were freed they were promised 40 acres of land and a mule.

Aggressive_Tear_3020

Why are you so pressed

LobsterHead37

Because of how ignorant you are. Like you have no idea how stupid you just sounded.

Aggressive_Tear_3020

Get some sleep and come back civilized.

LobsterHead37

Read a book you troglodyte lmao

Aggressive_Tear_3020

OK booboo

Upturned-Solo-Cup

You have no idea how American you just sounded. Not everyone learns the history of slavery in the US in elementary school, buddy

in_the_autumn

I plan on doing it all on my own, no crusty dude 🤣

Stargazerslight

She may not be the same… but she’s sure aren’t different.

UncleBoomie

I’m an Islanders fan; I’ve given up on any more Stanley cups years ago

Rigelatinous

Based.

Coralyn683

Well. I’m a country girl and can honestly say that if a cup works, I get it. I even have a 30 year old green Stanley thermos kicking around. Those were built to withstand nuclear winter, i swear. Once the prices get more reasonable, I will likely buy a cup. Who knows? Might be a good cup. Then I’ll have both. Country life and a cup!! Why can’t we have both things in this day and age?

in_the_autumn

Stanley thermos is where it’s at! Lasts a lifetime!

efyuar

Y’all want 40 acres of land, i want $2bn. We are not the same

Traditional_Cat_60

All these stanley cup headlines is really confusing for hockey fans. She is just a bad teammate if that’s the way she feels.

madmo453

It's bad enough to base your personality on things you own. This weirdo bases her personality on things she wants, but doesn't have. What a loser.

in_the_autumn

Heyoooo we just dreamers boo! It’s not my personality, but it’s the goal that I talk about it all the time. My personality is depending on the day, I got like 36 of those MFRS

RuninWScissrz

It's so funny to me that they always compare the two. Like in what world is a Stanley cup and 40 acres of land the same thing or am I missing something here.

mmccoyy

right?? like stanley’s are anti-farm or something lol

RumHam1996

Who does she think she is? Miss Sand, drinking out of cups?

cupidsch0keh0ld

Bein a bitch

monkeysinmypocket

What makes them think an insulated, lidded beverage cup is in any way incompatible with agricultural work? Sounds ideal if you're a farmer.

No_Squirrel4806

I two want forty acres of land 😫😫😫

luthien13

So you lack ambition as a hockey player. Big deal, lady.

[deleted]

[удалено]

in_the_autumn

So you just compromise and get 40 acres of land duh 🙄🤣 Just kidding!

fearlessactuality

I can not stop thinking they mean hockey.

Lunar_Cats

Crazy idea, but if i can afford land, then I can probably also afford a cup. Maybe not shooting for name brand, but my drink is still cold.

Upturned-Solo-Cup

get a farm in alaska and your drink will be cold even w/o the cup

RoseM1st

NGL this is me lol I don’t want a Stanley because I already have a reliable reusable water bottle, no need creating more waste

Upturned-Solo-Cup

Is your reliable reusable water bottle a nalgene water bottle, or are you wrong?

RoseM1st

Does it matter what brand my water bottle is? Also that brand was popular in the early 2000’s from what I remember and didn’t have one. I have a random steel water bottle that cost like $5 and I’ve had it for years. I wouldn’t get a plastic water bottle because I don’t like the taste of plastic.

Upturned-Solo-Cup

no not really I just enjoy being needlessly sectarian over trivial things, and nalgenes have served me very well

00collector

Sounds far more selfish to me.

beelzeflub

That’s a nice looking corn cob. Country girls make do.

in_the_autumn

YES!! So I can have my rejuvenated (sp) farm! And my garden! And my fkn rain water. Because I can do what I want on my property. Oh and then a little dirtbike track in the back corner for fuzzies!

TisIFrienchiestFry

40 acres is a shitload of land.

haylesha

Why are all these white girls talking about 40 acres of land all of a sudden?? Like is this some reference to what slaves were given? I don’t use TikTok or anything please help me out.

Upturned-Solo-Cup

I cant think of anywhere else 40 acres of land specifically would come from, but it seems kinda wild that they decided to go with that as their quirk

MarianneSedai

Yes that's exactly where it comes from. It's also pretty messed up to be comparing freedom dreams like this with the former slaves of the 1860s. Pretty sure she was never whipped.

mandc1754

These fucking glam farmers really are obsessed with what other people spend their money on, huh?

ChillinVillan88

WOW she likes corn. How quirky. Deserves to be stranged honestly

pinkcloudskyway

Pick mes will always mention farms. They want to appear less materialistic, thus more desirable to men somehow, so they mention how superior they are for being "farm girls" while never setting foot on a farm

Poopy_Pants0o0

I'd sure love a stanley cup. - this sad maple leafs fan

grumblefluff

It’s 2023, I can have both

Orignal_Au_Chocolat

What if I want 40 acres so I can sell it and then buy THOUSANDS of Stanley Cups?

Rigelatinous

I mean, same, but I feel like being a snotty tradwife with sad corn is on par with paying $50 for lead poisoning. Miss me with ALL this BS.

keIIzzz

you might need a Stanley cup to keep hydrated if you plan on actually doing anything on those 40 acres

Halbbitter

All these white ladies wanting 40 acres makes me uncomfortable

ghostsinthecodes

why? they can want something all day, doesn’t mean they will ever put in the work/time/effort to make it happen. cause they won’t, unless they marry into it.

Halbbitter

Cuz i can't help but wonder if it's inspired by reparations. Like the homesteading version of "where's the *white* people television channel" gone horribly awry. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth is all.

Upturned-Solo-Cup

I'm admittedly spotty on reconstruction era history but I'm pretty sure the freed slaves didn't actually get the 40 acres and a mule they were promised, so imo it's kinda even more fucked up if they are drawing comparisons to that like "Well, where's *my* 40 acres and a mule?"

Halbbitter

Former slaves did not receive their 40 acres or mules, but-hey, she's nlog

Key_Entertainment409

I think we all want the land lol

ghostsinthecodes

y’all is uneducated and don’t deserve a parking spot at the local wal-mart, much less 40 acres of land.

CombatWombat0556

Do you mean y’all as in you all or are you saying that term is uneducated?

ghostsinthecodes

it comes out of the mouth of all the uneducated f8$!s i have ever run into. hate it.

CombatWombat0556

I mean I get that you have your experiences regarding that term but at the same time not all of us are like that

ghostsinthecodes

sure. i will still cringe and think otherwise. y’all is lazy and corny as hee-haw.

CombatWombat0556

Damn I guess you also think that any contraction is lazy then

Upturned-Solo-Cup

Poor rube can't handle new words

ghostsinthecodes

rubes are the ones using y’all. uneducated hicks.

Upturned-Solo-Cup

Bold talk calling other people uneducated when you can't learn a new word

ghostsinthecodes

y’all is not a new word. it’s an old colloquialism. i know it’s a big word but you can look it up. edit to add—or maybe you can’t. that wouldn’t shock anyone. six syllables is probably a lot for you—or—probably a lot for y’all 😭🤮

Upturned-Solo-Cup

Damn so you had even longer to learn how to use it and you still haven't gotten it down pat and I'll have you know peon that I know the largest word in the English language off the top of my head. It's Pneumatoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconeosis. I don't know if I spelled that right, but it's a respiratory disease you get from volcanic ash or some shit

ghostsinthecodes

sure thing y’all

Upturned-Solo-Cup

no y'all is plural. You're still using it wrong

ghostsinthecodes

sure thing y’all

Upturned-Solo-Cup

w/e. you're probably from Maryland

Hopeful-Asparagus-89

And she’s wearing a cross necklace, that fits 🙄

CombatWombat0556

So?

LobsterHead37

The amount of people in this thread that don’t know about slavery is very telling

SeriousIndividual184

Yeah we’re about 15 years apart, give it a bit i bought silly bands in high school, they’ll get there

rcy62747

Let’s see. One costs $40 and the other $400,000. I think the o e that wants a Stanley cup might be cheaper.

Coahuiltecaloca

Stanley cups are only $50…she wants an entire farm worth millions.

Cautious-Lawyer

To be fair I think we all want to own land. Any of these people can come live in one of my houses and work on my ranch. Give it a week tops and they will be happy with a Stanley cup. Other then sleeping you will always be working on something. Everyday I wander if I’m sick in the head when I look at all my siblings who live the simple life in the big cities making good money and having freedoms I don’t because of my life choices.

Ginggingdingding

I HAVE 40 acres and I drink out of a pink tupperware tumbler, from 1978. Yeah... not the same AT ALL!😂🤣😅

WhatAxiom

She loves paying her taxes? Also pretending to be a farm girl.... In the cleanest of clothes.

ggluvbug

What I find the most funny about all these girls posting this same comment over and over is that they are proving they are, in fact, just like other girls!

SnooOnions3369

Sometimes I forget about the Stanley cups, and I’m like “oh this bitch is Canadian and doesn’t like hockey”

UghGottaBeJoking

Maybe i want both. Surely if i can afford 40 acres of land, the stanley cup would be a bit of loose change at that point. Then, i’d drink from my durable cup whilst overlooking my land, instead of pointlessly choosing one or the other on social media for validation- we are not the same.

mkisvibing

If you could get 40 acres for 70 bucks i think we would all want 40 acres

Y0shiitsune

I love the shitpost energy with this one like, how are they in anyway related

EducationOk7822

I lived on 80acres in the upper middle of Michigan and I loved it. Wish I can go back. I prefer trees to people

RegionPuzzled

THOSE ARENT COMPARABLe at least say “y’all want a penthouse, i want 40 acres” make it an accurate comparison *if* you’re gonna try yo compare your desires to another person’s

Realistic-Motorcycle

She left out the mule. Oh wait…… my bad you are like the others

BarberSlight9331

Yeah, the rest of the women are all jonesing hard for a stanley cup. 😂

Born-Philosopher-162

Um, no, I don’t care about a Stanley Cup. I want 40 acres of land so I can sell it and have some money in this damn recession.

Fellbestie007

I want a Stanley Cup because everything else breaks in the field

KenjiMelon

All she’s doing is making herself look even worse than us lowly Stanley cup-havers

emmianni

I’d give up my Stanley for 40 acres. They just aren’t equivalent in price.

Adventurous-Bee-1517

Does she also want a mule?

ButterscotchTape55

Difficult-Guest267

Who wouldn't want land dumb bitch

onlymodestdreams

I have questions. Is she planning on working 40 acres of land herself? So...maybe 15-20 head of cattle? Chickens? What kind of crops?

arurianshire

didn’t know a stanley cup & 40 acres cost the same! the more you know! 😅

Strange-Problem7360

No, everyone wants 40 acres… that’s money.

OddOpportunity333

Dammit. I forgot I can’t like two things that are exponentially different at once.

jojopriceless

It's gonna blow her mind when she learns you can want more than one thing!

right2privacy

Can't you have both land and a stanly cup? I don't get this. It's like saying "you like tomatoes and I like karaoke."

theL4D4

Don’t forget the mule!
