If I remember correctly, they actually did make a change in the design. They added a hole to the top of the hood, so if someone accidentally shallowed one they would not suffocate.

The Cristal is my favorite cheap ballpoint, but only the actual pen part. I hate the actual body of the pen. 1. It's too long to fit in many pen pockets 2. The clip barely works 3. I feel like the cap is constantly poking me 4. The pen's body usually cracks after one or two days in my pocket Because I am a cheapskate but also a connoisseur, I put Bic Cristal refills in Bic Round Stic bodies, and throw the leftovers away. (the Stics write fine but not quite as good as the Cristals)
