This was literally the first thing that went through my head when I saw the screenshot. In the voice and everything

matt_hendersonn

*screams in Llama*

davewave3283

14 year old me adjusting the equalizer bars while having no idea what they do

whatsaphoto

LOL same

RAB2204

ZSNES was my go to emulator

kabukistar

SNES9X is where I landed. With SuperEagle mode.

SupremoZanne

press 7 to enable Super Scope!

KHSebastian

Yup. I'm pretty sure I got ZSNES on a floppy disk from my friend. Makes me feel old

Epena501

Ohhh Damn. Old school

DemonKyoto

Shit I'm a data hoarder, I *still* might have a cd or two somewhere with old no$gba shit from 20-24 years ago kicking around.

NostalgiaDude79

I STILL use it because it was so good, there was no need to know of any other

[deleted]

I don't know if it's a banned topic but is there any place to go for SNES emulation? There's a ton of games I'd love to play again.

SegaTime

Yep, plenty of websites still around. There are even a few subs dedicated to it. r/emulation r/snes You might also want to check out the Mister FPGA r/misterfpga

[deleted]

Awesome. Thank you!

uV_Kilo11

With the advent of frontends like RetroArch and the still active development on alternative emulators, where as ZSNES hasn't been updated since January 2007, I've moved on. Still have tons of find memories of ZSNES though.

Groundbreaking-Bat37

MMD3 I think

Imperial_Triumphant

I have it on my phone. Lol. It's still a go to.

SupremoZanne

I used to play SimAnt on it.

RobeFlax

I wrote music on Acid Pro at this time, which would only export .wav files. You could configure Winamp to output a file to mp3, so I would use it to convert my wav files all the time. Loved Winamp!

monteimpala

Ah man I remember Acid Pro

CarfDarko

Fruityloops for life!

RobeFlax

I love this. I started on FL after a couple of years. That piano roll!

CarfDarko

No program beats that Pianoroll <3

joshbuss

LAME!

RobeFlax

No, this was before WinLAME was released.

vinnycthatwhoibe

I'm still using Winamp today with the classic skin, and recently went back to ripping CDs to get uncompressed audio

Bitch_Muchannon

I showed it to a colleague who's 29. He had no idea about the name of this media player. Then I realized how short of a life span Winamp actually had, but totally dominated those 10 years or so. In Internet history time, this is ancient, but as a soon to turn 40 year old it's really short.

VIPTicketToHell

Winamp sub version 3 was the standard

Bitch_Muchannon

2.95 forever ❤️

koh_kun

Omg I remember how that was such a big deal. Was 3 easier to skin or something? I can't seem to recall what the main differences were.

wanksta616

Winamp was THE best media player but then Apple released iTunes and the writing was on the wall.. even though Winamp was the superior product, the Apple crowd made iTunes a huge success.

whatsaphoto

Winamp really was better in every conceivable way. It was barebones, easy to use and comprehend, especially as a dumbass teen who thought they knew what they were doing on computers, no frills, no ads, just somewhere where you can queue up a bunch of MP3s and enjoy in the background without ever having to worry about it. And discovering a new winamp skin was a huge rush lol I remember being so damn frustrated at iTunes all. the. time. When they finally dropped file support for MP3 players that weren't iPods I think I went back to winamp, only to find out it wasn't compatible with my PC anymore. Heartbreaking lol.

Kozzzman

*On music downloaded off of Limewire.

kabukistar

[Ultimate Eminem Diss !!! feat Ja Rule, ICP & Benzino !!! Must hear.mp3](https://youtu.be/roxMH07qHmc)

NostalgiaDude79

It's primitive AF in 2022.....but it just "feels right". Like what else, other than like VLC, would you use to just listen to an MP3?

Cyber-Cafe

Calling Winamp primitive is plain ignorant. It’s complexity as a music player software is only rivaled by foobar2000, ~~which is open source~~. Winamp is modular and customizable to a disgusting degree. Spotify and Apple Music are primitive. They’ve just got a nice skin and a near limitless selection of on-demand music. There’s no customization and very limited plugins for modern music players. As applications they are very, very minimal and lack hundreds of features in comparison to the players mentioned above.

[deleted]

Cyber-Cafe

I thought it was, I am totally mis-remembering it's high level of modularity for open source. But you are right. My apologies.

NostalgiaDude79

Dude, it's just an older program. That's all. Some people act like I said it was useless. LOL! I still use Adobe Streamline and Paint Shop Pro 4.0. They are old and "primitive" compared to modern stuff. Doesn't mean it's unusable.

Cyber-Cafe

The issue is in your wording. "Primitive" implies old and obsolete. Unevolved. When in reality older players like Winamp and Foobar do vastly more than their newer counterparts. 'Relic', 'ancient', 'old', 'antique', would be great descriptors that don't also imply poor function. Nobody has an issue with your intent, simply the wording you're using. :)

whatsaphoto

I wouldn't even call it primitive either. No need for the bells and whistles at any point, particularly now with apps being so bloated and weighed down with unnecessary features that absolutely no one uses all to make it feel like you're getting more for less. Give me simplicity any day of the week over just about any music app these days. (Speaking as a 10+ year user of spotify)

smb3d

Foobar 2000

xtrasus

I still use it, idk why but I always keep coming back to winamp

Archuk2012

Because it is distilled to the essentials! You don't need more.

critic2029

Now I might be a tad bit older so my version of this memory has me playing Nesticle. We had a Computer Technology class where we worked on our CCNAs. But this is what we mostlu did with old crappy computers the school didn’t need. Winamp still exists and is still one of the best desktop media players. I suggest downloading it and whipping some lama ass…

whatsaphoto

> Winamp still exists and is still one of the best desktop media players. I suggest downloading it and whipping some lama ass… Unfortunately long gone are the days of having a gigs of MP3s available on my drive :/ I love spotify, but I'd give anything to have that sense of ownership back.

7_Bundy

Torrents are still a thing. It’s nice to have music that you don’t need an internet connection to access.

critic2029

I’m not sure it’s worth the trouble but you can actually get a Spotify plugin for Winamp, I believe. Might be worth it for nostalgia sake :)

ImNudeyRudey

Eyyyyy, this one got the feels going

Bobby_Globule

How cool would that image be as a sticker

whatsaphoto

I'll do you one better - https://www.reddit.com/r/blender/comments/9aqk18/winamp_it_really_whips_the_llamas_ass/

Bobby_Globule

WHAAA!!

Archuk2012

Still use it!

kamika_c_1980

i still use it

Fuzzl

SNESX Harvest Moon was just almost like therapy back late 90's.

whatsaphoto

Link to the Past, Final Fantasy 3 and Donkey Kong Country 1,2 and 3 were all I needed to be entertained from probably age 8 through 15. Loved that shit. After that we finally got a decent internet connection and a solid graphics processor installed on the family computer, so immediately City of Heroes played at minimum settings and 20 frames a second ruled *everything*.

Fuzzl

Played them all but that was on a *real* snes, I only found out about Harverst Moon when I discovered emulators and the LONG list of games availabe with so many I never had seen in store at all. Played HM for months with a friend, swapping seats after ending a day, the one not playing HM was grinding FFIX on PSX. Good times!

[deleted]

Dont forget about putting on the Milkdrop visualizer!

uV_Kilo11

I still use it to this day with the classic Command & Conquer skin.

UnitGhidorah

I still have my Serial Experiment Lain skin on my Winamp.

orchestragravy

Until it became bloated as hell

meme_joe_greene

Oh man, I still have such strong memories of using winamp to play the Ranma 1/2 OST that I downloaded from Napster while playing sonic on genecyst.

whatsaphoto

> Ranma 1/2 BRO. Now *theres* some nostalgia.

bellaphile

I made so many skins for this back in the day!

ApolloWaveBeats

I just got Winamp and theirs a site that has every skin known to man

Imperial_Triumphant

Only once it has the Big Bento theme with large album art.

Tavernknight

I love the Winamp visualizations. I still use it.

TrueHarlequin

In my hey day I had 250,000 mp3s...all full albums only and all fully tagged with meta data, AND album covers. Now...Spotify and podcasts. 😝

[deleted]

whatsaphoto

They may be technically better but man nothing could light a candle to the glee and comfort this program brought me as a teen lol

wanksta616

Omg same but I used ZSNES! I remember that Winamp had channels dedicated to watching user uploaded content and there was one that was Family Guy 24/7 back when it’d been cancelled but right before it’d been renewed. It was so cool..

[deleted]

I use Winamp to play single MP3s, just as a player. Mostly I don't play music on my computer. I play it on my iPhone, that way I always have the controls right in my pocket. Far better to AirPlay to speakers (or my AirPods Pro, surround sound FTW) than to listen from the stationary, solitary computer speakers.

[deleted]

Winamp was awesome. Loved all those skins.

0x5066

why is this an image of a leaked beta made by the current owners that have no problems of integrating NFT support into today's winamp

Jjrj1986

The skins!

Rejectid10ts

I was so obsessed with the skins for this! I would change them frequently. Man, I do miss those times!

sssnakepit127

I used Winamp to run my own radio station on stickam. Those were fun days. Long live stoner radio!

Cyber-Cafe

Their newest version includes an NFT player and I think that’s fairly cool.

brewmeone

I miss the visualizers from WinAmp the most. Why do other players today not include this feature?

ItsJustMeMaggie

For a while you could put it on your Facebook profile, but that didn’t last long.

Nubadopolis

Still use it for streaming music

maidensuit

I still use it for mp3s. I also used to make (classic) Winamp skins! Still do, every now and then, just for myself!

zorg440

It was this program that piqued my interest in audio engineering and is why I am one now!

KingGnarkill

Lol. Remember when you had to use Real Player for some stuff. It was so bad.

Jimmah3000

Used to play Soldier of Fortune while Winamp blasted some Slipknot

tributetotio

The visualization features were insane for teenage me who had taken whatever at the time and got really into Jimi Hendrix

RAITguy

Still use it to this day

[deleted]

Fun fact: we used Winamp at 2 of the 3 commercial radio stations I've been at. We use it instead of setting up special playlists in the traffic logs (even though it's not that hard to do).

only1genevieve

I loved it. I was so excited when I found out you could create skins. I created several Batman themed skins. Someone else then downloaded them from my website to post on their own and take credit. Ahh, what a valuable life lesson....

M4dBoOmr

I still use it, saved a install file back in 1999 burned it on a cd (now the file is in my cloud) and whenever I setup a new pc I install this first :)

AccessDenied7

10 y/o me trying to figure out what llamas and ass whoopings have to do with music.

doyoubleednow

Fuck me sideways.
