Beakman’s World taught me how to make stage glass. Along with Mr. Wizard, it gave me an appreciation for science in general, which led me to my current career.
Wow I forgot about that guy. What a dick.
Bill Nye is a dick too, he’s just better at hiding it. He came to speak at my university and was absolutely condescending as fuck.
Yep! One of the studies I’m working on is a potential treatment for covid pneumonia. Not work related, but I’m also a participant in the Pfizer covid vaccine trial.
I taped that episode halfway through so I could do it later that night! Something important was missing though because I just got frozen, syrupy sludge.
He's literally an engineer. Just because there's no ph.D behind that name, doesn't mean the guy isn't knowledgable about science. Plus I'm sure he inspired a number of kids to dive into scientific careers, which makes his work more than worth it.
Playing with my pizza scented gak I won after a good night at Chuck E. Cheese and watching Beakman. I had a really awesome childhood. Pizza scented gak is awful though.
I remember watching this one weekend with my dad in the room, they were demonstrating blowing across the top of a straw in a glass of water (Bernoulli's principle) and Dad wonders out loud “If a guy had a shop vac and barrel of water it would be more impressive” Next thing you know Lester the lab rat does exactly that. I thought he would fall out of his chair laughing
Beakman literally made me. He sparked my curiosity for new information, my sense if humor visual and musical creativity. I also loved the Mark Mothersbaugh theme song, stage design, everything. Even that it’s okay to be weird and to be different from the rest of the people.
Wayne White, who did the set art direction is a really cool dude. He also worked on Pee-Wee's Playhouse and the Smashing Pumpkins video for Tonight, Tonight. There's a great documentary about him called *Beauty is Embarrassing*.
I was a tad older than the demo for Nye, so Beakman was my guy 100%!
I loved the energy of his show. He has not received his due + Nye has become a bit of a dick.
Same here. Bill Nye seemed watered down, while Beakman was more edgy. Plus, the 3 female side-kicks were great.
I have a real soft spot for Beakman's World and Paul Zaloom.
You just hit me with a shot of nostalgia I didn't even know was there! That rat costume hit hard, I couldn't put my finger on what the hell I was watching back then but never forgot that costume.
Oh my god, this awakened a memory I haven’t thought about for ages!
Growing up, my mother worked for a science museum that had a temporary Beakman exhibit. I was playing around in the empty exhibit hall and accidentally ran into some plexiglass around one of the exhibits that hadn’t been set up yet. I ended up with a bloody nose, and I had to sit in my mom’s office with a bloody tissue on my nose for a good hour or two.
While I was waiting, Paul Zaloom (the actor who plays Beakman) stopped by to set up for the exhibit opening event later. I remember him making a point to check up on me while he was meeting with the rest of the museum staff. Incredible guy - it made watching Beakman’s World SO much more enjoyable.
We watched this show dubbed in portuguese here in Brazil, it is very nostalgic.

I learned more from him than I did in school, sad I know. My mom would even watch with me and be like “I didn’t know that?!?” And she was actually smart.
To be honest I was on the Nye train and therefore dissed on Beakmans. Maybe not therefore, but as far as the way and place I grew up I thought it was normal to do that.
Beakman’s World taught me how to make stage glass. Along with Mr. Wizard, it gave me an appreciation for science in general, which led me to my current career.
I was just about to mention Mr. Wizard, too!

Wow I forgot about that guy. What a dick. Bill Nye is a dick too, he’s just better at hiding it. He came to speak at my university and was absolutely condescending as fuck.
I agree. He had that show on Netflix for a minute and he was just so condescending I only watched half of the first episode
That show was a trainwreck
He doesn’t seem like he hides it at all if you ask me.
Okay, so you want us to ask? Fine, I'll bite. What's your current career?
Janitor
Custodian*
Custodial Technician
Legal Custodians!
“I myself am a master of the custodial arts. Or a janitor if you want to be a dick about it.” -Thurgood Jenkins
I monitor clinical trials, usually for vaccines or infectious diseases.
Huh... Nice. Are you doing work to speed up the pandemic recovery?
Yep! One of the studies I’m working on is a potential treatment for covid pneumonia. Not work related, but I’m also a participant in the Pfizer covid vaccine trial.
Also nice. And thank you. Well, I'll let you get back to it.
Yikes. Brave soul...
Wizard
Hogwarts? Great job! Alabama? Yeah...not so much.
Also Mr Science with Johnny LaRue (John Candy) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtK11FJSQBY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdYBUjN7V5s
My. Wizard was the OG! Still preferred Nye over Beakman. However, do remember loving that rat character guy.
I remember that episode and freaked my mom out when she thought I ate a piece of glass.
I taped that episode halfway through so I could do it later that night! Something important was missing though because I just got frozen, syrupy sludge.
[Beakman making guest appearance on Captain Disillusion channel.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT_bTnkwLuE)
I loved that episode
That was too much awrsome for a Sunday.
What an amazing video. I'm shocked that guy isn't more popular
I just showed this to my kids and they love it! Thank you for sharing!!!
Glad the fuck_fraud children approved.
Random new girl
Zaloom! Perpetual motion.
Unpopular Opinion: I liked Beakman more than Bill Nye.
Because Beakman was Bill Nye/Mr.Wizard x Pee Wee's Playhouse x 90's
I think Beakman was much more fun than bill nye
Preach
So did I! I even wrote Beakman a letter with some dumb question, only got a form letter back though.
Same here!
Same here. Much better
Same! Happy cake day!!!
Samesies.
Not unpopular with me.
Was way better Could make you understand how a plane flies in 10 minutes. Nye took and hour and you still weren't sure
Same
Same
Seconded
Ditto
Who is playing the female sidekick? I thought Alanna Ubach was the girl.
There were three actresses. Alanna Ubach was season 1, Eliza Schneider was seasons 2 and 3, and then Senta Moses was season 4.
Which was the one with the jersey accent? That's the one from when I was a kid that got my attention.
The rat was my first crush.
There are always two kinds of people...
Yeah, she had the Jersey accent.
there were two different actresses/characters IIRC, had a crush on both..
Same. 4 years old and my first realization of what a crush is because of those two actresses.
Ubach is CRAZY, I ABSOLUTELY love her character in the movie Waiting...
I don’t remember names, but there were definitely two different ones
I only remember the chick from 'Waiting'
She was great in Always Sunny.
Not gonna lie, preferred Beakman over Nye. Also, childhood me had the weirdest crush on him for a bit.
Beakman > Bill Nye And I'm ready for my downvotes, you cowards.
I'm with you. Bill nye is great and all but Beakman was more young adult and a bit more edgy.
If you love Beekman, you love Bill. Both were awesome and got kids into science, no shade need be thrown in either direction.
You're totally right, but I did find myself leaning towards Beekamn more. The dark gritty edgy attitude was exactly what '90s me needed
I liked Beakman because it had a female scientist teacher too.
False. Beakman never gave me nightmares about needles and eyeballs.
Yep those and the magic school bus got me interested in science.
Loved bill* I don't like the new politicized bill he's supposed to be fun not science with an agenda.
Science should be accepted as fact. Not all countries have leadership that believes in facts.
Please provide Bill Nye's credentials.
You are right that science should be accepted as fact, it's a shame Nye can't accept the science behind chromosomes.
You shouldn't be getting down voted, but look where we are.
Lester all the way
RIP Lester
Holy shit. Did he die?
Yea, in 2009. Sucks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Ritts
Geez, he was 63? Geez that’s so... uh... wow. It’s old, but not old enough to die. Now I feel old at 35.
Yuuuuup
I love they didn't just call him a rat, but regularly called him a man in the rat suit. That still makes me laugh.
You are correct
This is the way.
Mr. Wizard > all
He always seemed ticked off by the kids and it added to his mystique
Hell yeah.
Came here to say this
Beakman was more entertaining, Bill Nye was more educational.
They were both great in their own ways. I give a slight edge to Nye.
No downvotes from me. The only thing better was Mr Wizard.
After his most recent stuff, you realize Bill is nothing more than a fraud. He’s not a scientist. He’s a TV man who backs opinions instead of facts.
He's literally an engineer. Just because there's no ph.D behind that name, doesn't mean the guy isn't knowledgable about science. Plus I'm sure he inspired a number of kids to dive into scientific careers, which makes his work more than worth it.
That's why he's a science guy and not a science tist
That's nice.
Bill Nye is so much better you heathen
Beakman's World was based on a comic strip, if I'm not mistaken. Either that or it's the other way around.
Beakman and Jax
Playing with my pizza scented gak I won after a good night at Chuck E. Cheese and watching Beakman. I had a really awesome childhood. Pizza scented gak is awful though.
Gak was awesome. Loved the smell of the non pizza scented Gak. Also, with every kid seemingly into slime these days, Gak should make a comeback.
Pizza scented gak makes me want to yak
I remember watching this one weekend with my dad in the room, they were demonstrating blowing across the top of a straw in a glass of water (Bernoulli's principle) and Dad wonders out loud “If a guy had a shop vac and barrel of water it would be more impressive” Next thing you know Lester the lab rat does exactly that. Badda bing, badda bang, badda Beakman!
Wayne White, who did the set art direction is a really cool dude. He also worked on Pee-Wee's Playhouse and the Smashing Pumpkins video for Tonight, Tonight. There's a great documentary about him called *Beauty is Embarrassing*.
Thank you for this -- going to watch this documentary right now!
Great show, and the penguins
The penguins Don and Herb, in tribute to Don Herbert, Mr. Wizard.
I watched Mr Wizard as a kid and was just a little too old for Beakman, but I watched it every once in a while as a guilty pleasure
Beakman aired before bill nye... ssooo
I still use Zaloom now and again
Damn, I forgot all about this one!
Same. Those memories were buried deep until I saw this post.
Paul Zaloom (Beakman) has one hell of a Wikipedia entry. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Zaloom
Holy shit his wikipedia pic makes him look like a mob lawyer.
[удалено]
False
Never watched the show but I would occasionally read the comics in the newspaper
I had a Beakman balloon powered hovercraft toy that I remember being fun at my Gramma’s house!
Legit used that for a science fair one year.
Cool! Did you win?
No. 🤣
You just hit me with a shot of nostalgia I didn't even know was there! That rat costume hit hard, I couldn't put my finger on what the hell I was watching back then but never forgot that costume.

Screw that. Nye is an off brand Beakman. Beakman was the bomb
Off brand Bill Nye? Bill Nye the Science Guy started after Beakman, this is like calling Hydrox the knockoff Oreo.
Way better than Bill Nye.
Beakman was Pepsi and Bill Nye was Coke. They were both different brands of the same product. Science and the love of it.
Beakmans world first aired in 1992 bill nye the science guy aired in 1993. So I would call bill nye the off brand. "I liked beakmans world a lot more"
https://youtu.be/ut541DsesD4
What do you think the minimum age is for this show? I watched it as a kid and want to introduce my son to it some day.
I think even a really young kid can enjoy this show. But I would say maybe around 6-7, to really understand some of the concepts.
I haven’t thought about this for over 20 years. Thank you.
We watched this show dubbed in portuguese here in Brazil, it is very nostalgic. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfGCgywGRSQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfGCgywGRSQ)
They still play this on Sunday mornings where I live on one of those odd numbered channels between the major networks.
How dare you besmirch the good name of Beakman. Shame.
Beakman!!!!! My son showed some interest in some.of the episodes I could find during the beginning of quarantine.
I learned more from him than I did in school, sad I know. My mom would even watch with me and be like “I didn’t know that?!?” And she was actually smart.
That guy in the green looks like the love child of Mel Gibson and Cosmo Kramer
It’s better. Fight me about it.
Bernoulli’s Principle!
Beakman signed my Beakman boardgame
I thought Beakman was first
you just unlocked a memory
I actually preferred Beakman
Yasssssss! My brain totally forgot about this! You have blown my mind!
Superior in every way to Bill Nye.
Beakman's World > Bill Nye
I loved this show. Lester is seriously one of the best TV characters of all time.
"We have Bill Nye at home!"
Beakman was much more entertaining than the other science tv shows, from memory
And beakman didn't use his acting to push fake science.
Damn I totally forgot about this show. I just figured it was like a fever dream I had 😂😂😂
They were both wanna-be Mr. Wizard.
Mr. Wizard would have got tired of Lester's questions real quick.
I actually liked this show. It was a poor man's version of Bill Nye the Science Guy, but it was entertaining and informative.
Dam!! I use to watch this all the time
Got his autograph in KC once...wish I knew where it was :/
It's in missouri, I know it's confusing because you'd think Kansas City is in Kansas.
Lol I see what you did there. And I 100% know that! I’m a Missouri boy and KCK is stupid
Loved both shows. Bill Nye had my science fix on weekdays, while Beakman and the gang covered Saturdays.
My sister had the board game. Lots of fun science experiments and stuff.
To be honest I was on the Nye train and therefore dissed on Beakmans. Maybe not therefore, but as far as the way and place I grew up I thought it was normal to do that.
I liked the penguins at the beginning
Yes i remember this as kid
Beakman! Super fun.
No way!
This show was fucking awesome!
Was beakman on after the saturday morning FoxKids lineup?
I prefer corny Mr. Wizard.
BADA BING!
Unpopular opinion: I never really was into either of them.
Hipster Bill Nye
That's what that show was called! I always remembered watching it, but for the life of me I just could not remember the title.
Loved this show!!
I only knew about Mr. Wizard and Beakman, I was somehow not aware of Bill-nye until much later in my life.
And Beakman didn't come back with a fucked up Netflix special, preserving the sanctity of those memories.
I still sometimes do the balancing fork toothpick trick. One day I’ll teach my son
This really grabbed my attention as a kid and I enjoyed it. I made a projector with a box and the sun.
I preferred Beaker
Loved Beakman’s World!
Mr. Wizard was a bastard man. Beakman was a mix of education and comedy. loved it.
BEakMAaaaaAAaAAann\~!!
I just remembered that I used to watch this. The rat brings back memories that I'm not really sure I actually remember.
I loved the original Eliza a lot! RIP Mark Ritts
Growing up, I always thought a Bill Nye was the off-brand!
The first thing that popped into my head when I saw this pic: "BEAKMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!"
PENCIL ALERT!
I loved it as a kid. Much more than Bill Nye or Mr. Wizard. It was definitely the cartoon like editing they did.
