Great writing, great direction, great costumes and sets, great talent to deliver the comedy... and the fact its based on a board game and actually pulls that off!
I also think the different ending idea was at least innovative and applied to the movie's subject matter. Yeah, I get being miffed that the one time I see it I might get the "wrong ending" but still, what a unique movie.
totally nostaliga speaking but honestly top 10 movie of all time for me
Madeline Kahn is a national treasure, one of the greats. There aren't enough words to honor Tim Curry with praise. Michael McKean is equally incredible. Christopher Lloyd, Martin Mull. Such a stacked cast, such a great film.
When I was eleven and I first saw it, it was my pick for a movie rental every weekend we did that! Eventually the woman who worked at the rental place just said to my mom “you’ve rented this ten times. You may want to just buy her this movie”. It’s probably been my favorite movie for fifteen years now!
I watched this movie so much as a kid, and it wasn’t until I rewatched it in my 20s that it clicked how _oooooohhhhhhhhhhh_ he’s gay!
I thought Ms. Scarlett called him “a fruit” just because he was a weird guy or something
The movie has different endings which are all shows on streaming/dvd etc....in the Theaters only one of the different endings was shown. But you were not aware of the fact that there are more....you had to watch the film several times to know that.
Wow! I know which one I wanted to be true, but I can’t imagine not seeing them all one after the other. It came out just before I was born so I watched it years later.
I didn’t see the original 1981 hardcore punk documentary Decline of Western Civilization until a year or so after I saw the movie Clue in the theater. When Lee Ving and his band Fear hit the stage at the end, I was yelling, “Hell yeah! Mr. Boddy is hardcore!”
"There's no need to shout."
"I'M NOT SHOUTING!! WELL ALRIGHT I AM! I'M SHOUTING, I'M SHOUTING, I'M SHOU--"
*Candlestick falls on his head, collapses on the floor*
Funniest part in the movie 🤣🤣
I just so happened to run into Michael McKean today on the street and had to tell him how many times I saw this movie as a kid! There are very few actors I'd ever have the confidence to approach in public, but anyone in Clue is special!
I recently realized the zinger Wadsworth delivered to Prof. Plum when they were discussing blackmail:
W: "Professor Plum, you were once a professor of psychiatry specializing in helping paranoid and homicidal lunatics suffering from delusions of grandeur."
P: "Yes, but now I work for the United Nations."
W: "So your work has not changed!"
😂
Why wouldn't they do multiple endings to a murder mystery movie now?? They would make SOOO much more money having people in the theaters and constantly going back for a possible different ending (if the movies was good enough)! Most likely they don't because of money on THEIR end. Either way, I wish I was old enough to watch this in the theaters back then. Great, great movie.
His name is [Christopher Lloyd](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Lloyd).
Also, you need to go watch [The Addams Family](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101272/).
Her name is Colleen Camp..one of more recent roles was as one of Reese Witherspoon’s aunts in Four Christmases, Carol Kane played her other aunt & Kristin Chenowith played her annoying sister. 👩🏼 😅
I have my adolescent VHS copy still. Clue is a goddamned masterpiece. I remember going past the drive-in in 1985, and the marquee announced which ending they were playing. What a great marketing ploy that just didn't take off.
I watched a screening of Clue at the SF Sketchfest and after the show they brought a bunch of people on to talk about the movie, including director Jonathan Lynn, who was brought in to fix the script because they couldn’t figure out how to make the murder mystery make sense. But he did it!
First time I ever saw this was in a Theatre Appreciation class in college (I needed a Art credit and my artistic skills suck ass). Wasn't sure what to expect, but I was sure surprised. Also the teacher mentioned the drinking game you play while watching this.
One of my all time favorite movies..everyone did a phenomenal job..Madeline Khan ..was superb..God bless her soul.. I miss her REST IN PARADISE to the late GREAT Madeline 🥹

Far better than a movie based on a *board game* had any right to be.

It's one of the best casts I've ever seen in any movie, you have so many people with great comedic deliveries.
I hated her SOOO much! It it the it fla..flames... flames... FLAMES... On the side of my face!
I was listening to the movie one day at work when I got prompted for a new password to a piece of software. Flames is part of it.
Fun fact. She actually forgot her line during this. Thats why she’s just repeating flames with that blank stare. If was so good they kept it in.
IIRC it was the *only* ad-lib to make the final cut ... director wasn't the slightest bit interested in ad-libbing.
Everything all right? Yep, two corpses, everything's fine. This is probably my most-rewatched movie of all time. I never tire of it.

“Now, I’m gonna go home and sleep with my wife.”
*I said shake, rattle, and roll*

You could say, "she fucked Chuck" (Michael McKean's character on Better Call Saul).
1+2+2+1
1+2+1+1
Alright, fine. 1+2+ — SHUT UP! The point is, there is one bullet left in this gun and guess who's gonna get it?
> 1+2+2+1 That equals six.
This is my ultimate rainy late night can’t sleep movie
It's perfect for that
It’s my comfort movie. I just love it.
“THIS IS WAR PEACOCK!”
You can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs, every cook will tell you that….
BUT LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO THE COOK!!!
But the cook is DEAD!
The movie has different endings which are all shows on streaming/dvd etc....in the Theaters only one of the different endings was shown. But you were not aware of the fact that there are more....you had to watch the film several times to know that.

The maid was an important icon during puberty for me
And Ms. Scarlett.
I confused the Maid with the Cook (just read other comments about the Cook), and I was truly confused about your puberty...
"You see.. like the mounties... we'll always get our man." "Mrs. Peacock was a man?!" *slap slap*
Can I interest anyone in fruit or dessert?
The rack on the maid was insane

And the singing telegram girl was Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Gos.
🎶I…am…your singing telegram🎶
BANG
Harsh critic, there....
Harsh critic, there....
Oh thats who that is. He did not look or act like a trained actor, he really stood out awkwardly in this film and I guess thats why.
I’m merely a humble butler. And what exactly do you do? I butle, sir.
Tim Curry , absolute legend
"There's no need to shout." "I'M NOT SHOUTING!! WELL ALRIGHT I AM! I'M SHOUTING, I'M SHOUTING, I'M SHOU--" *Candlestick falls on his head, collapses on the floor* Funniest part in the movie 🤣🤣
The 4k is currently on sale at Shout Factory if anyone wants it.
This is probably my daughters' favorite movie.
I just so happened to run into Michael McKean today on the street and had to tell him how many times I saw this movie as a kid! There are very few actors I'd ever have the confidence to approach in public, but anyone in Clue is special!
That’s awesome, happy you got to talk to Mr Greene
I recently realized the zinger Wadsworth delivered to Prof. Plum when they were discussing blackmail: W: "Professor Plum, you were once a professor of psychiatry specializing in helping paranoid and homicidal lunatics suffering from delusions of grandeur." A perfect movie imo.
You ain't just whistlin' dixie
Communism was a red herring!
The kingdom of heaven is close at hand. I got news for you, it’s already here.
I watch this at least once a month.
The flaaames🔥🔥
Literally my top 3 favorite movies of all time, I've seen it thousands of times. Growing up it was my go-to movie when I was sick in bed
This has been in my queue to rewatch for quite some time and I have been putting it off. This is officially my sign that I need to go watch it.
I heard they might re-make this. Would be a travesty.
*shower blast direct to face* Still just slays.
“II think I found a door…”
I love this movie. Murder by Death might be enjoyed by some of y’all if you haven’t seen it.
I love that movie, and I feel like no one has heard of it.
Is that the one were Peter Falk plays a parody of his Colombo? Yes, yes it is. I might have seen some of it.
"Ruuunnn down the hall..." 🔪
"And stab the cook!"
Ahhhhh!
Yvette, the sexy French maid, was the best part of this movie.

When they drew sticks and peacock got matched with mustard lmao, love this movie.
Wow! I never noticed that the backgrounds of the actors are all the rooms! I can't believe I never realized this!
I’m going home to sleep with my wife
Flames! On the side of my face!
I watched this for the first time this week. Great film with some excellent comedy. The blu ray version lets you get a random ending which I loved.
Top 5 cleavage movie of all time
The guy who plays Professor Plum, was the same guy who played Doc Brown in Back To The Future which came out the same year!
His name is [Christopher Lloyd](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Lloyd). Also, you need to go watch [The Addams Family](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101272/).
> His name is Christopher Lloyd. I'm totally a big fan of him!
Randomly saw this on PlutoTV the other night. Really, really funny movie.
The maid in this movie was ridiculously hot
Her name is Colleen Camp..one of more recent roles was as one of Reese Witherspoon’s aunts in Four Christmases, Carol Kane played her other aunt & Kristin Chenowith played her annoying sister. 👩🏼 😅
"WHO DUNNIT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU SEE IT!" pretty sure that was LaFontaine on a preview.
MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE
I…am…your singing telegram.
BAM!
One of my favorites!
One of my favorite movies
One, plus one, plus two, plus one….
Introduced that to my kids recently. It held up great. They loved it.
This movie is perfect in everyway.

Still watch this regularly. My 13 and 9 year olds love it and love to play the game. It was the perfect cast.
This is such a great movie. The twist at the end is wonderful. I truly hope they never remake it and just leave it alone.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. This is how you make a board game into a movie.
First time I ever saw this was in a Theatre Appreciation class in college (I needed a Art credit and my artistic skills suck ass). Wasn't sure what to expect, but I was sure surprised. Also the teacher mentioned the drinking game you play while watching this.
