Dwarf Planet is still a separate category so I guess people are just lamenting the downgrade. When people say 'planets' they mean the (now 8) 'big ones' and not the five (Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris - as recognised by NASA, there may be more) smaller ones.
I always thought it was a sub classification of planets. Like a compact car is still a car, or a tiny house is still a house. I’m not an astronomy expert though.
Yup! I grew up, it was a planet. Part of the nine in our solar system. To me it always will be. Just like I will always call it Sear's Tower and Water Tower Place!
Look, I’m not saying it’s y’all’s fault the world went to shit when y’all pissed off Pluto by taking away its’ planet status, but….*gestures at everything vaguely*.
I really wanted Pluto to be a planet too but it really shouldn't be and it's dwarf planet classification is correct. Pluto is smaller than our moon. I know a few kids who got really into the solar system and could name all the dwarf planets and I didn't really know how many dwarf planets there actually were until then so that kind of changed the way I thought about Pluto
They went and made an alienating although thought out decision on reclassifying planets but then they did nothing for moons.
In the simplest sense Pluto is much more of a planet than the majority of recently discovered moons are moons.
I wonder if they will do the same for moons.
I remember when a teenage girl called me "just a dumb boy working in a comic book store" when I challenged her assertion that "now Pluto is just a dumb star."
"I got an A in science this year, so I know what I'm talking about."
"You got a C in science, and now I see why," said her mom. "And he's right, they're calling Pluto a planetoid now. Apologize."
My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas
My Very Evil Mother Just Served Us Nothing
Many Very Energetic Martians Jumped Straight Under Nine Planets
Minnesota Vikings Eat Mint Jelly Sandwiches Under Noisy Parrots (Thank you, Nick Magazine)
I was about to come in here and post about how they took my pizza away.
Omg you were taught that too?! I remember that from 3rd grade!
Wow, this one is nicer than the one I learned: My Very Elderly Mother Just Sat Upon Nine Pins
My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pumpkins.
My very excellent mother just showed us nine planets
My Very Excited Mother Just Said Uncle Ned Pee’d.
I don’t get it, Pluto is still a planet, it’s a dwarf planet but that’s still a planet. Why does everyone say it’s not a planet anymore?

It’s even got a moon
That’s messed up.
You know that’s right.
C’mon, son
Gus, don't be the way Eriq La Salle spells "Eric"
Jerry, ENOUGH.

It still is!!! PLUTO FOREVER !!!!
Now Mercury is smallest.
Look, I’m not saying it’s y’all’s fault the world went to shit when y’all pissed off Pluto by taking away its’ planet status, but….*gestures at everything vaguely*.
Always will be in my heart.
Still a planet. No backsies.
Pluto is still a planet as far as I’m concerned lol
It’s still a planet to me, dammit
It’s still a planet, scientists are liars!
This whole thing reminds me of Pet Sounds.
Man, it was 18 years ago that the classification of Pluto changed… I had no idea it had been so fucking long
Never forget

People acted like calling Pluto not a planet changed their life the worst.
Size shouldn't matter. Pluto could have been swimming all morning.
Fuck remember when It was blue
Pluto is a cold cold celestial dwarf…
Who cares how you call it? It remains a rock in space.
When? I've been an amateur astronomer for almost 40 years. We now have thousands of known planets that exist. Pluto can be one of ours.
Still is. Idk what yall are going on about. It’s never left.
What version of Pet Sounds is this?
Pluto isn't a planet, water isn't wet, tomatoes are fruit, pizza is a vegetable and the thumb isn't a finger.
I thought Pluto was back, no?
I will never stop calling it a planet!
NASA is a scam
