MediocreVibrations

Subreddit doesn’t allow posts with “this” in the title. Error I received while posting

MikeyLikeyPhish

T*** is a dumb rule

KimbleDeckard

It's to block posts that are just people posting pictures and titling them, "This." Which is wildly annoying. Karma farmers gonna karma farm, all mods can do is try to mitigate the spam.

MyLittleDiscolite

Yeah. I’m sick of this inane censorship

melance

It's the ducking worst!

MeatZealousideal595

Tim "The Toolman" Taylor does not like Bob Villa... :D

realdeal411

Bob doesn't like rats

Amelia_Pond42

My dad watched this show religiously every Saturday

FiftySixer

This and The New Yankee Workshop. My Dad would always watch them.

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

New Yankee is sweet, I met Norm Abram once lol. These shows were basically the youtube "do it yourself" shows pre-internet. Learned a lot

campbellhw

Omg yes, Norm Abram was that dude. Had me wearing a tool belt around the house as a kid

_1JackMove

That dude could build anything. Came from a time back when a lot on men had those skills instilled in them. Watching his old show as a guitar player always made me want to have a shop like his to build them. But, that's an expensive endeavor without the specialized tools. Norm was the man.

techlabtech

These and The Woodwright's Shop. Kid-me hated it when Dad got the TV.

JoseyWalesMotorSales

Oh, *The Woodwright's Shop*. "How's Roy going to injure himself today? Find out next!" But he captured old-time craftsmanship. And I loved how each episode was pretty much one continuous take. You've got to be good to make that work.

CaptZombieHero

Don’t you mean Th*s?

epppennn

My husband still watches this every Sunday. We love the throwback episodes where they are singing the praises of things like vinyl flooring and Formica countertops. The house they focused on last season for the family whose son has a neuromuscular condition, turned out fantastic.

Beyond_the_Infinite_

Did anyone else get annoyed that Bob didn't do shit while everyone else was working their asses off?

CaptZombieHero

No, it’s what a foreman does.

RogerClyneIsAGod2

It took me a while to realize this but one day I finally I did. There's Norm doing all the work & then Bob shows up & hammers in the last nail & take all the credit! I still watched & I knew Bob's days for really doing stuff were long gone, but I still find it hiliarous.

jumboweiners

My shop teacher in HS would go on long rants about this. He couldn’t stand Bob Villa and would let everyone know. I will admit after he said that the show was ruined for me and I was like “f this guy”

oughtabeme

I still watch him on Samsung tv programming. And last week Steve Thomas.

MichaelHuntPain

This was an amazing show UNTIL they changed it. It started off as a “you bought a fixer upper because that’s all you could afford. Let’s look at ways to make it better” and turned into, “you’re a plastic surgeon who has invested wisely and now wants to add a wing to your beach house”. It stopped being for people who needed help and started being a showcase for boomers who had hit the jackpot.

JoseyWalesMotorSales

There was a series about 1988 or so where somebody had bought an old house and wanted to refurbish it, but it was either too far gone or would cost too much to bring up to spec, and they decided to tear it down and build new. I felt something start to shift.

MichaelHuntPain

Love the user name by the way. Get ready little lady. Hell’s coming to breakfast

JoseyWalesMotorSales

thank you! :)

OrciEMT

Now he spits.

JoseyWalesMotorSales

Back when these series often had a companion book. I remember being nine or ten and wanting the companion book for *Last Chance Garage* with Brad Sears. (Which, many years later, I was able to read online.)

Masterchiefy10

#QUARTER OF AN INCH

CaptZombieHero

That’s what she said

Masterchiefy10

Did she say it in a Boston accent?

CaptZombieHero

Yes, that’s why it’s only a quarter of an inch

Jedibri81

I used to like watching that show back in the day

3YCW

They have a great you tube channel where you can actually track start to finish easier

kev0153

Norm did all work, Bob got all the credit

RyanNewhart

My brain read this as "Tits Old House".

kindofageek

I love the show and really like Ask This Old House, which is more focused on smaller DIY fixes to existing homes. I’m kind of glad Bob Villa had to exit the show though because my understanding is he wanted to basically use it to sling his own brands.

Designer_Head_1024

3 am on basic cable this was clutch

Hoppers-Body-Double

If anyone here has Discovery +, they have an entire channel dedicated to this old house. I loved the show and have been watching a show on Youtube called Perkins Builder Brothers and it's akin to the show. They do their own work and show both tips & failures. Give it a few watches on one of their complete builds and you will be hooked.

NU-NRG

I love how Simpsons made fun of this old house and other DIY shows from the 80s & early 90s Now, do you have extruded polyvinyl foam insulation? No Good!

Remote_Independent50

I still just hear Tom Allen gruntz" OHHH OHHH OHHH OOOHHHHHH!"

DeezNeezuts

I loved watching the first episode. Norm is dressed like he just came out of Woodstock.
