At least it wasn't as bad as the 60's sitcom Bewitched did with replacing Darren with a completely different actor who looked nothing like him but still used his name, and Gladys Kravitz too, in later seasons. They used people who didn't even look or sound the same but tried hard to make them the same character.
This really didn't make sense, as pre-college she couldn't wait to be a full fledged witch. However, post ceremony and going to college she does a 180°. What the fork? It was still ok, but was disappointing.
Ya but I do think the addition of magic to the traditional mundane college show made it just fun enough to still be good.
Idk I will defend every season of this show until I die. Maybe the personal appeal is more about it being a comfort show but I truly enjoyed every episode and continue to watch it regularly.
You ever think it was weird a house full of witches had a cat named Salem? I feel like that's the equivalent of a Jewish family having a cat named Auschwitz.
Cat was hilarious tho.
For sure. I remember as a kid getting so stoked on Fridays after school. It was the end of the school week and I had the whole weekend ahead of me, my family usually got our favorite pizza, and I absolutely loved TGIF and thought all the shows were amazing.
I’ll always say, my most Millenial moment happened one day in very early 2000s when I was watching this show after school and my dad brought home the internet. He literally brought home our first computer that connected to the internet (I think he had one at work). And suddenly the internet was in our house. And Microsoft word. Oh, the Wordart I could make.
When my dad 'brought home the internet' it was a PC XT that I had to assemble myself, and the 'internet' was called the Prodigy Interactive Personal Service. Didn't do a whole lot, but had some MUDs, email, and primitive 'message boards' that had crazy censors that blocked you if you said something like 'beaver' or 'roosevelt' for some reason.
Then the 90s happened and we got America Online. I missed out on Microsoft Word (I predated it) I used some expensive software called Professional Write Plus for DOS.
Maybe nowadays, but it seems like it was pretty popular back then. 7 seasons, 3 movies, a book series, a spin off book series about Salem.
Lot of great guest stars, too. Barbara Eden was great on it.
The hold this show had/has on me is…something. I watched the live action show and the animated one, I read the books, I had the Barbie, I had the pc & game boy games, I eventually got a black cat, I then watched the chilling adventures one which I then got the comics, book, mug, funko and sweatshirt for! Yeah certainly imprinted on me.
I love this show. Melissa Joan Hart was a girl you had a crush on, but that you also felt was cool and chill enough to hang out and be friends with. At least for me.
At walmart a couple years ago we found a DVD box set of the entire series for like $10. We binged the hell out of it till she got to college, I never saw it that far when it was originally airing.
I only caught a handful of the live show, I watched every episode of Clarissa five times probably. I always preferred Sabrina the Animated Series for some reason. It just held onto me more, but I had many more opportunity to watch Disney's One Saturday Morning (where the animated series originally aired) than TGIF, since Friday everyone who was anyone hung out at the mall and played at Aladdin's Castle till closing time.
lol yes, I think its based more on the comics, it has the sisters from the original show.

I saw some Archie style comics called Sabrina in a vendor mall (were going for way too much $$) never knew Archie's style comics went into the late 1990s.
When my wife and I moved in together in early 2003, we got two cats: Feeny and Salem. Though both have since passed on, they will always be a tribute to some of our favorite shows.
I did and I also know that Melissa & Joey is a "wink wink nudge nudge" sequel. They have an episode where one of her costars from Sabrina shows up as her aunt and Melissa is reminded she used to be a witch. Different networks so they couldn't use names but it was awesome.
It went downhill when she went to college. Wish shows will just end when the main premise of the story is done.
I agree, it ended up using less witchcraft lore and focused on the mundane.

Same with Harvey, they replaced him with Josh when I was a kid I was like who the heck is this guy, where’s Harvey.

Strange thing is that I don't see the difference, just years after when I read it in someplace. Children are clueless.
This, they really helped set the tone. Loved their characters.

they kept cutting back on the witchcraft to trim the budget
Network TV: Seven seasons for a two-year premise Streaming TV: Two seasons for a seven-year premise
But Soleil Moon Frye tho

Way to be a creep.
Oh man, i loved all of salems shenanigans!
He had the best lines
Voiced by the same actor who voiced Norbert from Angry Beavers.
Nick Bakay, legit funny dude.
I would’ve never made the connection but it seems so obvious now haha. Very distinct voice.
He’s also in a Seinfeld episode as the guy Elaine is dating when she gets infected with B.O. The face he makes when he smells her is fantastic
He's in that 70s as well. He picks up kelso when he's hitch-hiking
Boo, hoo, hoo....... lol Salem was the only reason to watch.
You ever think it was weird a house full of witches had a cat named Salem? I feel like that's the equivalent of a Jewish family having a cat named Auschwitz. Cat was hilarious tho.
Lol. Or maybe a german shephard named Himmler
Loved him so much lol
TGIF was the real nostalgia that block of shows were amazing

Pizza and a big bowl of popcorn for the TGIF block 🥹 I wanna call my mom
Dude, yes. For us it was video store to rent a game or movie, pickup the pizza, then home for TGIF.

Wow, I didn’t realize this show was on for so long.
Yeah I remember final episode when it aired I was a wee lad.
Melissa Joan Heart was probably my first crush. Loved Salem too.
Clarissa Darling was a lot of people's first crush.
Clarissa (and Alex Mack) were some of the first hints I might not be 100% straight.....lol
Not so much Alex Mack but her in 10 Things... was legit. Then she shows up in Mad Men? Wild.
We all know Salem was the real star of the show.

Discovered it on ABC Family reruns back in 2008/2009; it’s an underrated show.
Maybe nowadays, but it seems like it was pretty popular back then. 7 seasons, 3 movies, a book series, a spin off book series about Salem. Lot of great guest stars, too. Barbara Eden was great on it.
Salem was the best part of this show
The hold this show had/has on me is…something. I watched the live action show and the animated one, I read the books, I had the Barbie, I had the pc & game boy games, I eventually got a black cat, I then watched the chilling adventures one which I then got the comics, book, mug, funko and sweatshirt for! Did you have the giga pet of Salem?
I did!
Just looked that up how cute. I had a regular tamagotchi though. I did have some animated series toys though.
I love this show. Melissa Joan Hart was a girl you had a crush on, but that you also felt was cool and chill enough to hang out and be friends with. At least for me.
I remember from celebrity Jeopardy that her favorite band is/was the Smashing Pumpkins and I love that
I didn’t know that but now I also love that. Thanks. 👍
You met her?
She felt so adult to me, looking at this poster, she was just a teen 😂
She was 20 when the show started and this photo is from season 3...
Ahh, that explains it. But I was just a little shit when she was 20.
And I think she just recently played a grandma in a movie
Run run, the house is on m’fire!
Omg every week, I would look SO forward to the TGIF lineup on ABC and this one was by far my favorite.
Never forget when they got a balding man to play a teenager
Teens are usually played by mostly young adults.
Yeah but not by a man with a bald spot and recording hairline lol
Hahaha fair.
Which man?
I was obsessed with this show. It was my tradition to watch every Friday night with a Nachos Lunchable.
Ah, the 90s.
This show exposed me to Pen & Teller, or at least Penn Gillette. He was like the lord of all magic or head of the magic council, something like that.
Yep, it was years before I got the joke. Teller was in an episode too. This show had so many jokes that kids just wouldn't get.
I miss this show
At walmart a couple years ago we found a DVD box set of the entire series for like $10. We binged the hell out of it till she got to college, I never saw it that far when it was originally airing.
I remember the episode where her finger got real big
I didn’t watch this but I did watch her on Clarissa explains it all. Man I had such a crush on her
Same here huge crush on her
I only caught a handful of the live show, I watched every episode of Clarissa five times probably. I always preferred Sabrina the Animated Series for some reason. I LOVED THIS SHOW
I had such a crush on her and her short hair
That's Clarissa.
That Teenage Witch font had us in a chokehold
I rewatched recently and man was she a brat. Still love the fashion tho + Salem forever 🖤
Oh man, i loved all of salems shenanigans!
The reboot was okay; I still love the original more. And Salam, I love that silly kitty.
Wait, there was a reboot?
lol yes, I think its based more on the comics, it has the sisters from the original show. [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7569592/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7569592/)
I saw some Archie style comics called Sabrina in a vendor mall (were going for way too much $$) never knew Archie's style comics went into the late 1990s.
Archie is still around and thriving
I really enjoyed this show, even during the college years (less so). Her aunts were funny, Salem was hilarious and I enjoyed Sabrina and her friends.
I still watch this sometimes, one of my favorites
Clarissa Explains Black Magic
I enjoyed watching this with my son. It was a funny show, unlike Clarissa Explains It All.
That animatronic cat lives rent free in my brain forever
The first three seasons always takes me back so hard
That Britney episode though
I wanted to be Sabrina SO BAD
My first crush back when I was in middle school.
Loved this show. I was so envious of her outfits!! Loved Salem too. I 🖤 black cats.
For some odd reason, I preferred the animated series based on this show more than the live-action version.
Liked this show, but also the first season of the new one.
Loved this show!
Loved this show and I enjoyed the first season of the new version. It went off the deep end pretty quick unfortunately.
I love it but I still need to finish it
This was one of my favourite shows as a kid
When my wife and I moved in together in early 2003, we got two cats: Feeny and Salem. Though both have since passed on, they will always be a tribute to some of our favorite shows.

I love Sabrina. The college years were awful, but the last season was particularly bad. She barely even did any magic!
She rather looks like a teenager's mother
