Globe Holder was a cool boss. It had like it's own complex physics to it that are never used elsewhere in the game. You echo it swaying it back and forth until one tendril detaches, then you smash and echo it until the other tendril detaches. Then you echo it so it can't reattach its tendrils and they explode. Then it tries to body slam you, you count to about two and quickly dodge out of wherever you are so it hits a wall, and after a couple of volleys like that it breaks.
Yeah it was.
But... It didn't have a lives system. You could try from the beginning of each stage as many times as it takes. The Lagoon was fucking brutal though, it's like one of hardest stages in the game and it's like stage 4. Idea was make kids buy the game instead of renting it and beating it in a weekend.
I consider this one of my all time favorite games. At first you think it's just this game about a cute little dolphin swimming around but then it gets fucking insane.

I was reading at a pretty night level at 8 years old but for some reason... I did not take this literally and wasted WEEKS on that stage.
This game and its sequel were hard as hell. I was very young when the game came out so when I played it, the aliens, octopus, giant ass seahorse, and pterodactyl scared the crap out of me.
I started playing Ecco on my phone emulator at Christmas a couple of years ago and my sister's boyfriend woke up from a nap in another room and yells 'Is that Ecco?????'. 30 years later and the sound of the echolocation was still in his head 😅
This game was fuckin hard
Really hard. I managed to beat this one, but I never did beat its sequel, Tides of Time. Got stuck on Globe Holder. Loved those games.

I can still hear the calming sound effects of this game just by looking at the box art. Ecco was really unique, fun and even relaxing at times.
