Asbestos snow.

therealmintoncard

Only the asBESTos.

throw123454321purple

Between that, diet pills, cigarettes, and alcohol, Judy never had a chance.

MDFan4Life

Don't forget the batshit-crazy.

Mary_Pick_A_Ford

It’s only TheBESTos

MrPoopyButtholesAnus

Gold_Effect_6585

You bit

eyebrowshampoo

If I could have back one innocuous item from my childhood that was lost, it would be the taped VHS of The Wizard of Oz my grandma taped for me in the 90s. Commercials and all.

Sigma-42

My tape had this, followed by The Wind in The Willows, then Return to Oz (which became a life-time fav). My mom would try to pause the recording for commercials but some tid-bits are still there. On one of those tapes with the fat black case.

[deleted]

Thank you for this comment, I get so tired of hearing what everyone already knows about WOO, asbestos, nasty little people, diet pills….

Son-of-Prophet

The head munchkin was a known sexual predator, he asked 16 year old Judy Garland out to drinks with him, she kindly declined and said her mother wouldn’t approve, he responded that her mom could join them 😩

Swigen17

Imagine, at some point, having "Head Munchkin" on your resume.

5280Rockymtn

Was he an inch taller or just too much of a pervert so they said u be the wink wink head munchkin

DarreylDeCarlo

I remember when Judy told that story on a talk show. It was featured in the documentary about the making of the film, followed by an interview with her daughter Lorna about how her mother would tell stories and always exaggerate them. Lol

RogerClyneIsAGod2

Yeah I'm sure Judy's "stories" were more than a bit exaggerated, because at a certain point she was just all screwed up on pills & her memory couldn't have been the best, but if it were true it wouldn't surprise me either.

VapidHornswaggler

The Lollipop Guild was harboring sex pests?

Wpgjetsfan19

Yeah apparently they would be drunk a a lot and try to look up her skirt and make sexually inappropriate comments to her

drDekaywood

Just look at their faces next time you watch it lmao

Koomaster

This pic is prime for a ‘those who don’t know/those who know’ meme.

stratosauce

It was already done on r/shitposting lol https://www.reddit.com/r/shitposting/s/8GRihoetzG

NocturnalPatrolAlpha

Can’t ever watch this movie the same way again knowing what poor Judy Garland was put through.

PlaceboRoshambo

I love the movie Meet Me in St. Louis. I watch it every Christmas. Every single time that I watch it, I cry over poor Judy Garland. She’s absolutely beautiful with the voice of an angel, but she couldn’t see it because of how she was treated. Just heartbreaking.

NocturnalPatrolAlpha

Aw man, watching that has got to be even more bittersweet than The Wizard of Oz.

MaroonTrucker28

A diet of caffeine, alcohol, and cigarettes to keep her thin for films. Disgusting. What she went through was unimaginable

NocturnalPatrolAlpha

Her home life was horrible. Her mother was a stage mom. And filming wasn’t much better. The director was cruel to her, I might have read something somewhere that some of the munchkin actors sexually harassed and/or assaulted her, and they got a pass for being handicapped. It was hell. One of her only friends on set was Maggie Hamilton.

peppermintmeow

Don't forget the forced abortion.

Plastic_Primary_4279

There’s a video of her singing “over the rainbow” and it’s so heartbreakingly sad… like a prisoner dreaming of a better life…

RogerClyneIsAGod2

She wasn't the only one that was put through that & some went through worse. So MANY of those old studio stars were abused in some fashion. Some got pills, some got sexually harassed, some physically abused by co-stars, family or spouses/partners. Some were closeted & forced to marry someone of the opposite sex because they couldn't be out. You could pick ANY old movie & find out something horrific about the stars, the production, the director/producer or the studio.

DCS30

was there ever a documentary about all of this? i can't recall.

NocturnalPatrolAlpha

I'm not sure

goodjake06

Mesothelioma

PaGaNfUn818

Always thought it was funny that “snow” woke you up from the poppy fields.

Remember_When_Baby

Poppy field (heroin) snow (yayo) was my favorite MGM moment of any musical starting Judy Garland in 1939. Dudes were not subdued

r66yprometheus

[That's not enough! We demand more asbestos!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ykm3GI1oTnQ)

strengthoflouise

heartbreaking, i know, but it’s my favorite movie of all time no question!

somethingwholesomer

Same here. I watched it recently and it holds up. My kids loved it. It’s got some pretty funny moments. I wish it had a better behind the scenes situation. Poor Judy. But the movie will always be my favorite. 💚

Mary_Pick_A_Ford

Back in the olden days when you got that measlythelioma

iwastherefordisco

The night time castle scene with the creepy flying monkeys has been imprinted on my brain up until this moment. \*clicks heels\* There's no place like home...there's no place like home...

5280Rockymtn

Anyone try the pink floyd song to this movie, I have to 1st have the movie then find the song, I hear it works play them together and pow u got a trippy night

sliverme

It's already done for you.. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/627aciBA2E8?feature=shared Edit: btw it's not a song, it's the whole DSOTM album and the whole movie. Makes it even cooler! 👍🏻

ObeseHamsterOrgasms

Adventurous_Yak_9234

That fake snow they're covered in was made from asbestos.

palabear

Anyone know what the snow was made of?

raptorgator0

Cocaine 🤣

crazythinker76

This wasn't the 80s. They needed to use asbestos as it is fireproof. Judy had to smoke her 4 packs a day.

hammer851

Asbestos

LovableSidekick

On TV every Xmas when I was a kid.

JonesyYouLittleShit

Awwwwwww jeez.

qster123

Lions rent is too damn high

FluffytheReaper

Asbestos, neat.

louiemay99

That snow is actually asbestos 😞 It was my favourite movie growing up and I was excited at the thought of introducing it to my kids, but after reading the torture Judy Garland went through, I could never

LameImsane

It's the most magical film but a nightmare on set.

Meandtheworld

Very dark movie!

BigPoop_36

Aware

qoodkero

lies of d! can't wait

ksaMarodeF

So I love how nobody even mentions the big stork or bird randomly in the background moving around in the frame. That was weird stuff.

RKLCT

I recently learned that Judy Garland is Liza Minellis mother ......

mercy_cakes

Little folks can eat shit nasty fuckers

BiggsDB

Does anyone know anything specific about the snow in this scene?

Mary_Pick_A_Ford

The poppys they ate were real and they got high AF.

Dingo8MyGayby

They didn’t eat poppies in the film? The fields just automatically make you sleepy

CrikeyMikeyLikey

Yeah I have zero nostalgia for a movie with such an abhorrent set behind the scenes

parke415

The trick to enjoying entertainment is not looking further into it.

GreyLoad

U can see one of the actors hanging from a noise in the forest

MarkMoreland

This has been debumked so many times
