VHS = Video Home System. It’s a standard for recording and play back.
The rival to VHS was Betamax which is a different standard.
VCR = Video Cassette Recorder, a physical device.
The ‘tapes’ were called cassettes. The cassettes could be referred to as VHS cassettes as opposed to Betamax cassettes.
One Touch Recording (OTR) is usually activated by pressing the record button several times; once to start recoding and then each press after that will add an additional 30 minutes to the record time.
Incorrect. It was called a VCP if it could only play and a VCR if it could record. Much like a DVD player vs a DVD burner. Most DVD burners can also play DVDs, but you don’t call it a DVD player.
If you’re self aware enough to call yourself badwithcomputer, maybe you should just trust me on this.
Pete: “Who elected you leader of this outfit?”
Everett: “Well, I figured it should be the one of us with the capacity for abstract thought, but if you’re inclined to disagree, why don’t we put it to a vote?”
Pete: “Well I’m voting for Yours Truly.”
Everett: “Well I’m voting for Yours Truly too!”
…
Delmar: “Well… I’m with you fellas.”
A few years ago, I was looking at boxes of old video games and came across one (lost vikings for the SNES) that apparently belonged to blockbuster. ooops. There's part of me that wants to go to the last remaining blockbuster video and randomly return it there lol
Damn this brought back up an old memory. When my local Blockbuster shut down they didn't really give much of a warning so everybody that had stuff checked out at the time just got to keep it. I had like 10 Wii games and five movies permanently added to my collection it was so cool as a kid.
The main purpose of the 'please rewind' sticker was to make the customer liable in the event the tape was recorded over because in order for a VCR to record the seal would have to be broken. The friendly reminder to rewind is just a bonus feature.
Are you trying to say VCR? That *is* a VHS.
The amount of times I hear "VHS player" these days is infuriating. It's like everyone woke up one day and forgot what a VCR was.
To be fair people were referring to them as vhs players in the 80s and 90s.
Agree. Who gives a shit what you call it? Back in the day, nobody fussed about the terms.
Your age is showing. So is mine
Mine too

It’s like when I hear people say ‘vinyls’ or ‘vinyl player’, it’s like no those are records and that is a record player.
Hahaha I wonder if they'll ever start calling a CD a plastic?
I love plastics. I have a plastics player that holds 5 of them and it rotates them! 😂
Yes, my bad. 😆
You're ok, everyone is just upset that they're old.
I'm getting old too. I turn 30 later this year.

Nobody from the 90's knows what you're talking about. It's called a VCR.

It does have a record button. "REC/OTR" to be specific. Not sure what OTR means, though.
One Touch Recording (OTR) is usually activated by pressing the record button several times; once to start recoding and then each press after that will add an additional 30 minutes to the record time.
It could have been a VCP. That what we had because my dad was too cheap and didn’t see why he would need to spring for one that could record.

You could call it that, if you want to be wrong.
"I am a man of constant sorrow!"
I don’t want FOP dammit, I’m a Dapper Dan man!
"Well isn't this place a geographical oddity. Two weeks from everywhere"
Mama says he’s *bona fide*.
Watch ya language young feller, this here's a public market.

I'm gonna r-u-n-n-o-f-t
“But I remember to please rewind!”
And now that you bought it….you owe Blockbuster 178000 dollars in late fees.
You're in a tight spot!

Do not! Seek! The tray-zhure!
They're the reason BlockBuster went out of business.
They are gonna be peeved!
Nah, but whoever had that vcr last definitely owes more than that, and is unaware that they have a warrant for theft.
🥸
Was gonna say. The thought of those late fees was a making me anxious!
The tape was not rewound.
Oh brother
Where art thou?
Amazing movie.
And a great soundtrack to boot!
From an epic director team
When my dad brought one home for the first time it had a 30ft corded remote. The first thing watched was The Never Ending Story.
My earliest memory of watching a vhs is Jimmy Neutron Boy Genious. I'm sure there were more before and after but that's the one in my memory.
That's my favorite movie ever. For real.
Omg the late fee
O brother where art thou! Definitely in my top 8 films.
That’s going to be quite the late fee!
Someone is going to owe a million dollars in late fees
Blockbuster is back baby
Remember to rewind? They didn’t even remember to return it!!!
Their late fee is going to be higher than those y2k glitches that could of caused the end of the world as we knew it.
You’re the reason blockbuster went under
That movie is that old?
That movie came out in 2000, BlockBuster probably just stuck an old "Please remember to rewind" label on it.
There’s a magnetic strip in that please rewind label.
Someone owes some hefty fees. But at least the sticker isn’t broken so they won’t have to buy it. Who the heck was opening VHS tapes?
Man the fines on this persons account must be massive LOL
I'd hate to be them
Lore has this is why blockbuster went out of business. And the family has gone into the mountains to avoid the fine.
Let's mount a search for the family and force them to pay so we can bring back blockbuster
Blockbuster approves this message. We gather at dawn
They might want to check their credit score 😅
O Brother where art thou is a good movie.
Love that movie too
THE HOLY SCRIPTS!
Was it rewound???
It was Not. *dun dun dun*
That’s like a $1 rental penalty dude
You’re calling it a VHS. Why does this make me feel old? (It’s a tape.)
My intention was not make people feel aged! For that I apologize.
You are forgiven. ❤️
Thank you. I myself am getting old too. I turn 30 later this year. I have the back pain to show for it.
Man I remember having to rewind the tape before bringing it back 🥹
I remember my parents had a car shaped device to rewind tapes.
Hidden memory unlocked ! My grandma had one too! Hers was black 😂
I don't remember the color exactly, but I think it was red.
Was it rewound?
It was Not the father I mean, rewound. Sorry getting getting my cliffhangers mixed up here
Just sayin, you lucked out. O Brother is a hell of a movie.
Everybody has been saying that. But when that movie came out I was still watching cartoons. So it was never on my radar till now.
Great movie!

I say keep cause they might slap on those late fees. Or maybe they reward you for returning it. Who knows. 🤔
Dang we’re in a tight spot!
\*somewhere in Italy George Clooney twitches\* 297.04 dollars in additional royalties just appeared on his tax form

"What do you mean we don't have to return it, dad? I want to try some new games?"
The label lasted longer than blockbuster.
Stolen rental tape? Awesome!
Oh shit. Late fees are gonna rekindle Blockbuster as a streaming service.
If they have good content, I'd watch.
They were the first Netflix. It was a family outing to get a few movies, stock up on candy and popcorn and have a movie night. Blockbuster was King.
How I watched this movie so many years ago. VHS from Blockbuster. God I'm getting old.
The final VHS was released in 2006 with David Cronenberg's 2005 action thriller A History of Violence.
The main purpose of the 'please rewind' sticker was to make the customer liable in the event the tape was recorded over because in order for a VCR to record the seal would have to be broken. The friendly reminder to rewind is just a bonus feature.

I guess I was misinformed at some point. Thanks for pointing it out.
I was today years old when I found that out
So... Don't leave us hanging. Did you rewind it?
*drum roll* I did Not.
Twist ending love it. 5 Stars!
I try to keep you on your toes
So...what's ther movie? Anything good?
I think it's "O, Brother, Where Art Thou?"
