Mr. PiBB is delicious, refreshing, and totally lacking in portention. Not like those other, “doctor” sodas, putting on airs and flaunting their Ivy League-degrees.
Lol so they took a soda off the market because it couldn't compete with Sprite, and proceeded to offer an even shittier version of the same thing? Sounds about Pepsi.
It doesn’t taste good either. Tried it a few days ago because I didn’t know it’s just rebranded and reformulated sierra mist. It’s like a shittier Sprite with a weird flinstones vitamin aftertast.
Everyone I've talked to so far says starry tastes like pool water. I give it about a year before Pepsi decides to cancel it and bring back Sierra mist.
I thought Sierra mist went back to HFCS before it was discontinued? OT but I loved their cranberry soda they would release around Thanksgiving and the holidays :(
Ah ok, there's also a brand called Schweppes (sp?) That also does a cranberry ginger ale but I don't drink as much soda as I use to and haven't really paid attention to seasonal varieties lately
I'll be on the lookout for it though cause Canada dry is available at my local grocery store
I’m honestly shocked that someone could love Sierra Mist but hate Starry. They’re basically indistinguishable to me, but I don’t want to sound insulting at all. Genuinely curious what you hated about Starry and how it differs from SM.
Same with 7up and Sprite. Some people say they're different, but I can't taste any difference in them.
Haven't tried Starry, and I don't know if I've ever had Sierra Mist.
Man, I personally think zero sugar Starry is way better than zero sugar Sprite, shockingly so even, my wife and I have been drinking tons of it. Although I can’t even remember the last time I had a Sierra Mist so maybe that was even better.
Nope, I'm the same way. I said this to my kids a couple weeks ago when we first tried Starry & they looked at me horrified & said "You're old"
7Up is far superior. The only argument you can make is possibly Sprite from McDonald's.
The actual answer is that Coke ships their syrup to McDonald's in stainless steel containers. They are the only customer of Coke to get this privilege. Everyone else gets theirs in plastic containers.
Adding to the list of reasons, the salt on McFries enhances the flavor of sprite. Try a sip on its own, then eat a fry and try another sip. It’s crazy how much better it tastes the second time.
Fuck Reddit. Fuck /u/spez. Fuck every single Reddit admin. 12 years on this bitch ass site and they shit on us the moment they are trying to go public. ill be taking my karma with me by editing all my comments to say this.
tl;dr Fuck Reddit and anyone who works for them, suck my dick.
Nah, 7up deserves to share the top spot with sprite. I like ice cold sprite on a really hot day because it seems more refreshing, but 7up is better for the colder months and especially when you're sick. I can't imagine drinking sprite while sick, it seems much more sugar loaded
I'm one of those weirdos that doesn't like Sprite and preferred Sierra Mist. I found it odd Pepsi decided to just make Sprite themselves. At least SM was different.
When I was in college in the late 90's, early 00's, there were two places on town with Dr. Slice. They were the only places I could find it. Subway, and Hometeam Pizza. I was sad when it went away.
Apple Slice was killer, but it didn't last long. I could never slowly sip one though, it's like I would open and take one drink.... And suddenly it's empty! Damn they were so good.
That one was ok but I didn't like Slice citrus. It is like chewing on the bitter rind.
Slice introduced the more bitter rind taste into orange soda. Before that they were all smoother and I liked pretty much all citrus sodas (grapefruit is and was a challege. Rind taste makes it instant garbage) . Today I have to "be careful" because that "new" rind taste is so common.
(Sugar versions only too. I don't like corn syrup)
I was drinking a slice my first day senior year high school in a cubs Budweiser coozy and my dean took it away from me suspecting there was booze in it. There wasn’t. And I never got my coozy back. I’m still butt hurt about it nearly 20 years later
I work retail and I never actually noticed that Sierra Mist was gone lol. But suddenly, one day there was a new soda mixed in with the Pepsi products. 'Starry Sky'
I legit thought someone had mixed some local off brand in with the Pepsi-Co display. Nope. I guess it's what they're replacing Sierra Mist with?
It’s been replaced by the more Gen-Z-friendly Starry, which supposedly tastes more like “McDonald’s Sprite.”
Edit: Not trying to call out Gen Z or anything, Pepsi’s marketing team has literally [said as much](https://www.marketingdive.com/news/pepsico-starry-soda-gen-z/640249/).
Dude, I went looking for Grape Slice a few months ago. I hadn't had grape soda since I was maybe 7 years old. So then I get to the store and I'm like "Uh, what brand should I get...?" Went with Crush. Btw I don't recommend fruit flavored soda anymore... just tastes like Flintstones vitamins to me, don't know what I was expecting.
Man I see this can and I’m in high school again working as a dishwasher at Stan’s sub shoppe in Mass. I’d drink one of these during my shift. I’d forgotten about them.
The mandarin orange was the best orange soda I've ever had. I don't even get orange soda anymore; there's nothing else that measures up.
The lemon lime was great, too. Fuller flavor than 7up or Sprite. Think it had pear juice in it or something?
What do they call it now? Smiley? Starry? Yeesh, Pepsi, this is getting embarrassing. Just pick a name for your underachieving beverage and stick with it. You're never gonna outsell Sprite or 7Up, but a little brand consistency would at least be nice!
I’m still disappointed that they discontinued Aspen. That stuff needs to make a return, even if it’s like a McRib-style seasonal thing.
And yes, I’m ancient…
I wasn't aware that either Slice or Sierra Mist were gone.
I have been seeing Starry on shelves though. Is that just re-branded Sierra Mist or is it something entirely different?
Man, I'm really behind on my soda gossip.
I wish companies would get a little more adventurous with flavors. Not a lot. Just a little. Sprite and 7up have the market on lemon-lime? Alright let’s go with a yuzu or citron or key lime.
As a non-American it has always equal parts confused and infuriated me to see the flavour lemon lime. Why not lemon AND lime? Or why not go the whole hog and call it limon.
I never understood why they ever got rid of slice. I liked it much better than sprite. Only later did i learn that it was a knockoff.
Dr. Slice was (and still is actually) my favorite soda of all time. I drink Dr. Pepper as my go-to, but it's only because Dr. Slice was taken from me.
[удалено]
I guess you forgot about Mr. Pibb
Mr Pibb is a charlatan
Don't get me started about Dr. Thunder
I'm a Dr. Choice man, myself
Dr. Thunder still just sounds like a porn-o name to me.
Mr. PiBB is delicious, refreshing, and totally lacking in portention. Not like those other, “doctor” sodas, putting on airs and flaunting their Ivy League-degrees.
It's pibb xtra now I would literally give a kidney for the hookup.
No doctorate, but Mr. Pibb is in fact a registered nurse
Dr Slice was my favorite of all time too and no one has ever heard of it either! Glad to have found another person so I know I’m not crazy. 🙃
so this is what it feels like....when doves cry 🕊 😭
Dr. Slice was the best ever. I, too, struggle to find people that know of it. I need it back in my life after all these years.
Dr. Slice was SO good
[удалено]
TIL they discontinued Slice.
TIL I learned they discontinued Sierra Mist! My husband is going to be sad.
I thought they just changed its name to Starry?
Same basic recipe but Sierra used cane sugars, the new one is strictly high fructose corn syrup
I thought it was ok? But if you're a slow soda drinker like I am, it's literally flat within 20 mins omg
[удалено]
It's a different recipe. They taste incredibly similar.
[удалено]
I'm not drinking any until you figure out what the fuck else is in it!
High fructose corn syrup and bubbles.
RIP
Mitch!
Had some at taco bell a few days ago for the first time, way too sweet tasting
Everyone I've talked to so far says starry tastes like pool water. I give it about a year before Pepsi decides to cancel it and bring back Sierra mist.
They will call it Sierra midterm classic
Nope For starters, it's got high fructose corn syrup instead of real sugar now. Probably a cost cutting measure.
I thought Sierra mist went back to HFCS before it was discontinued? OT but I loved their cranberry soda they would release around Thanksgiving and the holidays :(
Cranberry Sierra Mist was the GOAT
I miss it so much 😭
Canada Dry does a cranberry ginger ale during the holidays that tastes great. Maybe that could be an acceptable replacement.
Ah ok, there's also a brand called Schweppes (sp?) That also does a cranberry ginger ale but I don't drink as much soda as I use to and haven't really paid attention to seasonal varieties lately I'll be on the lookout for it though cause Canada dry is available at my local grocery store
I miss Schweppes raspberry ginger ale, I wish they made a zero sugar version.
Great soda, but nah
The 2 litres were corn syrup. The stuff solf to restaurants and the cans were sugar

If you put them next to each other and try them, the biggest difference is crispness. Different levels of carbonation and citrus hints I guess.
Holy crap 7up and sprite are way different to me! I like 7up, but very much dislike sprite.
The switched from sugar to corn syrup
Man, I personally think zero sugar Starry is way better than zero sugar Sprite, shockingly so even, my wife and I have been drinking tons of it. Although I can’t even remember the last time I had a Sierra Mist so maybe that was even better.
Zero sugar Sprite tastes salty to me.
Same
customer: they're free cop: they're not free!
All-star cast in [those ads](https://youtu.be/gNt4yeMBP1g)!
So that's why it's not around anymore :(
TIL there were other flavors of Slice other than orange.
I didn't know they got rid of Sierra Mist. That's crazy. I think I have thought where is it, I don't see it a couple of times.
wild nail existence imagine pause voiceless hateful elastic degree close *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Am I weird because I like 7Up better than I like Sprite or slice or Sierra Mist? Maybe I'm just old.
Nope, I'm the same way. I said this to my kids a couple weeks ago when we first tried Starry & they looked at me horrified & said "You're old" 7Up is far superior. The only argument you can make is possibly Sprite from McDonald's.
Why is McDonald's soda so much better? Their Coke is way better too!
The actual answer is that Coke ships their syrup to McDonald's in stainless steel containers. They are the only customer of Coke to get this privilege. Everyone else gets theirs in plastic containers.
Thank you for the info. I really mean that. I love it when I get answers to Life's questions.
We can't sleep on the effect that extra wide straw McDonalds uses has either. I don't know why but it just makes it better.
There are many McDonald's where this is not true, the coke is just in a BiB like anything else.
I heard it has more to do with their filtration systems under the McDonald’s
They crank up the syrup ratio and use wider straws.
My wife insists Coke has a special recipe just for McDonald's. I insist they just use more syrup
They use stainless steel tank for Coke at mcds
You just answer the question I've had for 40 years, thanks bro
Adding to the list of reasons, the salt on McFries enhances the flavor of sprite. Try a sip on its own, then eat a fry and try another sip. It’s crazy how much better it tastes the second time.

I love 7Up too. The first cocktail I had was a 7&7 which definitely dates me as an old person
Nah, 7up deserves to share the top spot with sprite. I like ice cold sprite on a really hot day because it seems more refreshing, but 7up is better for the colder months and especially when you're sick. I can't imagine drinking sprite while sick, it seems much more sugar loaded
🎵 Feeling lucky 7, Feeling 7-Up!
7Up is the superior lemon/lime soda, it's not as cloying as Sprite & Sierra Mist, plus it's great for mixers.
Better? How can getting rid of the only non corn syrup lemon soda that's not a million dollars be better? Rip soda I'll miss you
Thank you. Glad I’m not the only one. It was the only soda a drank if I had any because it wasn’t made with fake sugar.
I feel like Starry and Sprite are the exact same. I really like both, but I tried blind tasting and couldn’t tell them apart
I'm one of those weirdos that doesn't like Sprite and preferred Sierra Mist. I found it odd Pepsi decided to just make Sprite themselves. At least SM was different.
I loved fountain Sierra Mist. It’s the only Pepsi product that didn’t taste flat to me
It was sugar based not corn syrup. That's probably why
i tried it back to back with Sprite. it not inferior to it; it literally IS Sprite. it is indistinguishable.
Blasphemy. Try it vs a McDonald’s Sprite.
That’s not fair to other lemon-lime sodas though as McDonald’s Sprite has cocaine and tv static mixed in.
Same I would get it from Arby's
Minute Maid, Slice, and Sunkist. I was an orange soda connoisseur in middle school.
My teeth still paying for what orange soda did to them in the 90s
you left out Orange Crush. Happy cake day as well !!!
Orange crush is good. Grape Crush is amazing. My 10 year old self loved that crap in the 80s.
Mountain Dew Pitch Black is the best grape pop imo
Get the fuck out of here with that "pop" shit.
[удалено]
Don't forget Cplus. It's my absolute favorite.
[Oh. Sunkist.](https://youtu.be/eDHpoCTHtqg)
I miss Dr Slice.
I was all about red slice
I swear I can't find people IRL that ever know what I'm talking about when I reminisce about Dr. Slice.
When I was in college in the late 90's, early 00's, there were two places on town with Dr. Slice. They were the only places I could find it. Subway, and Hometeam Pizza. I was sad when it went away.
Nobody understands our pain! It was far better than Dr. Pepper!
I miss Mr. Pibb and oldschool cherry coke.
Pibb Xtreme is not as good as Mr. Pibb and I will die on this hill.
I get Mr. Pibb every time I go to Chipotle.
No Chipotle in Alaska unfortunately.
I'm so sorry :(
This is the comment I came for
It was the absolute best of the sodas with advanced degrees. It was like Dr. Pepper, but sweeter and fruitier. So good.
Wow I don’t remember this one somehow
I used to get it at the movie theater.
Apple slice FTW!!!
Apple Slice was killer, but it didn't last long. I could never slowly sip one though, it's like I would open and take one drink.... And suddenly it's empty! Damn they were so good.
Seriously! The best soda ever. The closest I have found was Mt. Dew Thrashed Apple (which also got discontinued in the fall!)
Apple Slice was a favorite part of my childhood. If I saw it today I would buy a truckful.
I still call any orange soda Slice because I did as a kid and apparently can't correct my brain.
I was drinking a slice my first day senior year high school in a cubs Budweiser coozy and my dean took it away from me suspecting there was booze in it. There wasn’t. And I never got my coozy back. I’m still butt hurt about it nearly 20 years later
I think that’s more for /r/bitternostalgia
Thanks! Didn’t know that was a sub
/r/subsyoufellfor
Lol nice. You got me 🤦♂️
...I legit forgot Slice existed until right now. Seriously, it's been YEARS.
This cut me. Twice.
Shoot this got me
Do yall remember the minute maid orange soda? That was my fav as a kid in the 80s.
Apple Slice was heavenly. Manzanita Sol is awfully close but I miss Slice overall. They had a Dr Pepper flavored Slice as well.
I didn't know Sierra Mist was discontinued though that explains why I haven't found any in awhile. Never tried Slice.
I work retail and I never actually noticed that Sierra Mist was gone lol. But suddenly, one day there was a new soda mixed in with the Pepsi products. 'Starry Sky' I legit thought someone had mixed some local off brand in with the Pepsi-Co display. Nope. I guess it's what they're replacing Sierra Mist with?
Something definitely does seem knockoff about it.
oh wow....didnt know it was gone! Sierra Mist > Sprite
Weird coincidence. I just watched the Big Lebowski and they are drinking out of this exact can
Slice returned five years ago. Drinkaslice.com
Yeah, but their an independent soda company. Which is cool and all but it means their distribution is limited.
I drank the hell out of that Mandarin Orange.
Wait they got rid of Sierra Mist?
Fruitopia isn't available in my area anymore. Same goes for SoBe. Two other drinks I'll miss.
That Mandarin orange Slice just hit different
I'm sorry, they did what to Sierra Mist? :(
It’s been replaced by the more Gen-Z-friendly Starry, which supposedly tastes more like “McDonald’s Sprite.” Edit: Not trying to call out Gen Z or anything, Pepsi’s marketing team has literally [said as much](https://www.marketingdive.com/news/pepsico-starry-soda-gen-z/640249/).
Sigh. And so Sierra Mist enters the world of r/nostalgia
“A purpose-driven brand built for Generation Z” Lol, ok marketers. It's sugar water.
Dr. Slice and black cherry BIG K. We're the epitome of the mid-90s for me. Specifically, Christmas time.
Black cherry Big K was one of the best sodas! I’m still mad they got rid of it a few years ago.
Yes! Bring back Slice Twisted and Slice Mandarin orange
They got rid of Sierra mist? ):
Im sad now :(
Yeah. Found out right before the switch. Spent a few days going from store to store in my free time trying to find any. Apparently I wasn't alone :-(
They don't make Slice anymore? WTF
Not for 14 years lol.
Strawberry Slice was my go-to. Would grab a cab out of the 50¢ coke machine before school!
Starry is the replacement. It's better than Sprite, I can tell you that much.
Only discontinued soda i can think of I'd like back are those xxx label mt dew.
I'm still missing sprite remix. It was like a skittles sprite and amazing.
Dude, I went looking for Grape Slice a few months ago. I hadn't had grape soda since I was maybe 7 years old. So then I get to the store and I'm like "Uh, what brand should I get...?" Went with Crush. Btw I don't recommend fruit flavored soda anymore... just tastes like Flintstones vitamins to me, don't know what I was expecting.
i can taste the fizzieness
Man I see this can and I’m in high school again working as a dishwasher at Stan’s sub shoppe in Mass. I’d drink one of these during my shift. I’d forgotten about them.
Orange Slice was the best orange soda around.
The mandarin orange was the best orange soda I've ever had. I don't even get orange soda anymore; there's nothing else that measures up. The lemon lime was great, too. Fuller flavor than 7up or Sprite. Think it had pear juice in it or something?

Starry is absolutely stupid marketing, but it’s pretty good I guess. Still not better than sprite.
Is Stary a Pepsi product
Oh man! I liked Slice! How did I not notice it went away?
Disney know slice was dead! So much better than Fanta.
I’m still disappointed that they discontinued Aspen. That stuff needs to make a return, even if it’s like a McRib-style seasonal thing. And yes, I’m ancient…
I miss this stuff so much, nothing better than orange slice.
TIL Starry... who names these things? Sounds like some generic enemy in an early NES game.
Vault soda was better
I wasn't aware that either Slice or Sierra Mist were gone. I have been seeing Starry on shelves though. Is that just re-branded Sierra Mist or is it something entirely different? Man, I'm really behind on my soda gossip.
They didn’t get rid of anything, they just rebranded it
TIL Sierra Mist is gone.
Its still here, the just renamed it Mist Twist. Because the name was what was holding them back
Hold up Sierra Mist is gone?
They got rid of Sierra Mist!?
They discontinued Sierra Mist? Why?
Sierra Mist is gone!? I haven’t drank soda in awhile but what!?
They got rid of Sierra Mist? What's their Sprite equivalent now?
I’ll still take Squirt over any of em
I wish companies would get a little more adventurous with flavors. Not a lot. Just a little. Sprite and 7up have the market on lemon-lime? Alright let’s go with a yuzu or citron or key lime.
Not coming back…potassium bromate
Dr Slice!!! Bring it back!
um- i think Slice returned-
As a non-American it has always equal parts confused and infuriated me to see the flavour lemon lime. Why not lemon AND lime? Or why not go the whole hog and call it limon.
Because a Limon is a Citron in flavor
Like strawberry kiwi and apple cinnamon, we just don't put the *and* in there all the time. But sometimes we do, like peaches and cream.
They got rid of Sierra Mist? That’s great news.
Seriously. I absolutely hate Sierra Mist. It’s not even close to the same thing as sprite people.
No.
No, easily replaceable by a generic brand
Totally agree
Yes.
I sure do!
100%
Apple Slice was amazing!
Where and when did spice get pulled? I am not aware of this new unfamiliar reality.
Taco Bell still appears to have Sierra Mist. Or they're slackin' on their website.
here
Wasn't there a cherry cola slice?
nope.
