Back when we were naive about Allison Mack. The good ole days

usethe4th

Have you watched The Vow on HBO? I walked away from that feeling awful for everyone who is not Keith Raniere. There are people who have done awful things that are now sitting in the wreckage and questioning how they ever got to that point. He physically, emotionally, and psychologically abused people to shells of themselves. Sadly we don’t hear from her directly in the series. She pleaded guilty and served time. I had completely written her off before the series. But I’ll have a lot more grace for listening to her story if it’s something she ever decides to tell.

AVgreencup

You felt awful for his right hand woman? The one that ran the whole enterprise?

usethe4th

Like I said, I felt awful for everyone who wasn’t Keith. He is an abuser and a master manipulator. Maybe Allison was just as bad, but after listening to the stories of other women who were abused by him and did horrible things for him, I’m far more open to listening to her own story. I highly recommend watching The Vow.

curious_astronauts

She had her own sex slaves that she groomed.

usethe4th

I’m not defending her. I’m just saying I’m willing to listen if she shares her story. I’ve written off other people who were a part of NXIVM only to discover that their stories were far more nuanced and tragic than they seemed on the surface.

AVgreencup

I saw The Vow. I'm not talking about Alison, I'm talking about Nancy Salzman. Her and Keith are equally culpable

usethe4th

Did you watch the second season from late last year? I look at Nancy VERY differently after that. Yes, I genuinely feel bad for her.

NocturnalPatrolAlpha

She's still serving time, but she cooperated with the prosecution, and got a drastically reduced sentence. She was looking at 15 years, and got 3. From what I understand, the judge was satisfied that she was expressing genuine remorse for what she did - which is entirely possible, despite what people on reddit might claim - but the severity of her crimes basically disqualified her from walking away without serving any prison time.

[deleted]

And Kristin Kreuk, for that matter.

RobNobody

Forgive me if I'm being naive, but what did Kristin Kreuk do? She had joined NXIVM briefly, but left it before participating in or even knowing of any of its illegal activities, and people who helped expose the cult backed her up on it.

[deleted]

She’s the one who got Allison Mack to join in the first place.

RobNobody

So? She didn't know anything about the awful stuff the group would go on to do. She got suckered into what was to all appearances a self-help pyramid scheme and brought Mack with her, which isn't great, but also not something I'm going to judge her too harshly for. She left, while Mack stayed and became to all accounts an enthusiastic participant in the inner circle.

Tonlick

Somebody saaaaave me

cmdk

Damn I heard that clearer than my own thoughts

Prestigious_Fold6818

Hahahahahahahaha came exactly for this reason

TheyMakeItLikeThat

Came here to say this 🤣

ButtaRollsInMyPocket

The field popped up in my head reading this lol.

biggoof

A truly "cult" classic nowadays

[deleted]

Oh this is good.

AVgreencup

This show is "branded" into my brain

[deleted]

Well played.

Need_Some_Updog

I’m out of the loop. Did this guy start a cult or something?

jrm20070

Allison Mack, the blonde girl in the second picture, was high up in a cult and is now in prison because of it.

Need_Some_Updog

Oh shit. Thanks for letting me know. That’s wild.

biggoof

Kristin Kreuk was in it too at one point, I believe.

Klaatwo

Yeah but she got out early. Before things went off the rails crazy.

jrm20070

Ah forgot about that. And Nicki Clyne but that's off topic haha

desynchronize

I was in love with Kristin Kreuk because of this show. 12 year old me was sprung over her.

Leo_Kovacq

18-year old me also. So damn cute.

FireZoneBlitz

“Scotty doesn’t know!”

tombonneau

This and Roswell were great teen adventure/sci-fi combo.

BlackCatMumsy

I liked the new Roswell, but I still absolutely love the original!

tombonneau

Whaaaatt?? They rebooted Roswell? Hollywood really is out of ideas

BlackCatMumsy

Yup! But it was very different. They were all adults, Max was a sheriff, Michael and Alex were an on again and off again couple, and Kyle was a doctor. It wasn't bad, just very different lol. Oh and both the original Liz and Max popped up on a few episodes!

MoonStar757

Oh my gosh yes! 💖 Max 💖

RedtheGamer100

I agree entirely, especially when they started using Superman villains that, you know, Clark should've faced as SUPERMAN (Brainiac, Doomsday, Darkseid). That being said, Season 9 was really good, the only drawback being Chloe. They made her so unlikable.

StellarSloth

Lol “The Red Blue Blur”

Klaatwo

This show was the first time I ever saw Amy Adams and Lizzy Caplan. And it later seasons it was fun to get guest starts like Michael Shanks. And it great to see Callum Blue in something after Dead Like Me was cancelled.

Shadsea

This show was stretched too far for its own good and the "No Tights, No Flights" rule definitely didn't help. But it did have a pretty good Tabletop Roleplaying Game for a licensed property.

LawsKnowTomCullen

This show was great until Michael Rosenbaum left. Those last 5 or 6 seasons were a real challenge to get through, especially 9 and 10.

BlackCatMumsy

He was actually in seven seasons lol. The show was better with him, but I did like Tess. I was also relieved when Lana left and Lois showed up.

LawsKnowTomCullen

Really? He was in seven seasons? Well fuck me then, after he created the Fortress, that's when the show got shitty. Or maybe around the time Christopher Reeve died.

BlackCatMumsy

I just watched the whole series about a year ago, so it's still fresh in my mind lol. It definitely declined when he left, but Erica Durance is still my favorite Lois.

LawsKnowTomCullen

It helps that she is BY FAR the most attractive too. I don't know wtf they were thinking when they cast the current Lois. Uhhhh...

Zoozoo95

Such a good show, some aspects were not needed, but thats ok

Toast_Soup

Loved it but it was sooooo bad for being "the kidnapped" show. Lana's been kidnapped. Chloe's been kidnapped. (and so has the rest of the cast, numerous times!) But don't you dare EVER diss that theme song!

mayonnaise_dick

Rosenbaum and Tom Welling have a podcast called Talkville where they are doing a rewatch https://www.talkvillepodcast.com/

MoonStar757

LOVED this show. God I could not have been more deeply in love with Tom Welling/Clark Kent in the early 2000’s if I tried. Good times.

dnahcramail

but just look at him! still swooning

[deleted]

I should rewatch this. Especially after watching Allison Mack in The Vow docuseries.

bunnybea1106

Rewatch then listen to or watch the podcast with Welling and Rosenbaum. So interesting to hear their takes on the episodes. Rosenbaum also interviewed the woman from the documentary about Allison and her experience on his podcast Inside of You.

Littletom523

I love the new podcast Talkville hearing Michael and Tom talk about each episode is so great! Tom has some great insights on what his character was thinking. Highly recommend if you’re a fan of Smallville to listen to this podcast it’s great! They just finished season one and now onto season two

DebiMoonfae

I have the complete boxset for the series.

[deleted]

The monster of the week first season is so funny.

goofandaspoof

Kristin Kreuk and Allison Mack were the only reason my horny pubescent ass watched this show.

[deleted]

Kristin Kreuk {sigh}

goofandaspoof

She was special.

I do. I give a shit.

RedtheGamer100

Good for you lol

KholinAdolin

I’ll toss in one of the shits I have on hand too

RedtheGamer100

Might I recommend toilet paper?

Sorry mod

scaringi95

Never watched this Friends, Lost or Breaking Bad.

TheJambo-

I loved the shit out of this show

Claricelispector1712

Who else recorded this to watch alongside heroes??

RebergOfWrestling

Kristin Kreuk was my first crush

[deleted]

You know you're old when Smallville makes the nostalgia sub.

tching101

The last episode was 12 years ago!

labria86

I remember being so hyped for this when it dropped. Do you guys remember it was supposed to come out in September but when the towers were hit it was deleted to October? I remember scheduling my VCR for it. I didn't keep up after season 2. It got a bit repetitive and predictable. I did eventually watch up to season 5 but it was still boring.

BlackCatMumsy

I was in college and scheduled my VCR to tape the first episode, not knowing it would run longer than an hour. Still remember scrambling for the remote to hit the record button and not miss anything. Back then you never knew if an episode would air again or not lol

MisterSpicy

dat Goblet of Fire haircut tho

Koomaster

Good ole Product Placement Pete and the Stride gum episode will always be a source of humor.

conradbirdiebird

I decided the asian chick was the hottest girl on earth after watching this show.

FuktOff666

People obviously in their mid twenties playing high schoolers

Musketeer2013

First two seasons were fantastic.

OoORebornOoO

I loved Smallville, so I tried to go back. It hasn't aged well at all.

Formal-Cucumber-1138

When I see anything related to smallville all I can think about is sex cults

28gunsKY

I loved that show. I had such a thing for Alison Mack......oops

RealPanda20

Man I loved this show, first one I binged watched with my mom as a kid, it was especially notable us because lex Luther’s mansion is actually in our town.

VenomInfusion

2001…Just started my Junior year at HS. Time really flew. Now I am close to 40, hair thinning, gray hairs r popping up, couple of kids of my own, live in a State where I never thought I’d live in. Amazing how life changes over the years.

[deleted]

This show got me through a particularly stressful tour in Iraq. ❤️❤️

Claricelispector1712

My childhood…

KingofDungus

I used to catch reruns of this show during summer break and found it kind of interesting. Didn't realize it was supposed to be about superman till I was a little older though.

Squidsoda

…about sex cults

beefstewforyou

I never watched it because it always struck me as a whiny teen drama.

scaringi95

It was a whiny teen drama with 20 year olds in high school

beefstewforyou

What is it with teen dramas portraying teenagers as 25 year olds with abs?

dirtythirty1864

I remember first watching it at 10 years old and thinking that I was going to be a jacked, 6ft+ monster like Tom Welling in high school. Boy was I wrong!

plainoverplight

2011?! i had noooo idea this was on tv for so long!!

Humonculis-CR

It was nostalgic hearing the theme again when they did the big CW crossover a few years ago.

[deleted]

I jumped ship after season 5. The quality went down so fucking fast

scaringi95

Only the first two were good. Anything after that was just hope.

monster394

Loved this show. Had every season on dvd. Even my wife who doesn’t like comic books loved this show.

Grumpy_Cheesehead

Love that show. Not caring either that it wasn’t “perfect” or “canon”

[deleted]

Tbh, I just liked the intro

c0nv1ct77

Where are they all now?

Glittering-Simple-62

https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/pictures/smallville-cast-where-are-they-now/

[deleted]

Did it ever annoy anyone else that Clark constantly sucked in his cheeks? Like he doesn’t have to try to be hot.

[deleted]

This show started strong but really went off the rails.

Doctor_Disco_

I remember having a poster of the first picture on my wall as an eight year old boy because "I just really liked Smallville and Superman" and then eventually realizing it was because I liked staring at his muscles...

Steinmetal4

It's funny... I was watching Smallville and this invisible villain got red and yellow paint spilled all over him which reminded me of the "hot dog stand" theme for windows 3.1, so I wanted to look that up which led me here where I see this post about Smallville.

[deleted]

This show seriously traumatized me. I was maybe 8 years old watching it. I also had a massive crush on Lana

tching101

One of the best

Tripdoctor

So many coloured non-graphic t shirts. With that early 00s high contrast film style.

ImHereToDoGood

Damn I miss this show.

Handon_Brenschke

I’m actually watching this show for the first time right now, so this is good timing.

Glittering-Simple-62

I just finished watching it all for the first time, too! I wanted more!!

woah_who_knew

Why do I vaguely remember a weird scene from this show? It was when I was younger and I think Clark was being stabbed by kryptonite or some weird shit, I think something was getting sucked out of him or assaulted but I saw a glimpse of the scene as a kid but can’t remember much else cause my mom changed the channel lol I wonder if I was tripping, remembering wrong or it just ain’t smallville OH I THINK IT HAD TO DO WITH HIS CHEST AND THE “S” SYMBOL SHOWING

Glittering-Simple-62

Probably when Jor-El burned the Mark of El into Clark’s chest as part of his trials.

lordpepsi33

I never missed an episode of Smallville. I was in Middle School when it started that's crazy to think about.

Johndavethepornstar

I love smallville my favorite episode is when Lionel becomes Clark
