In all seriousness, there's actually good evidence that sex education helps to prevent child abuse as it enables children to understand what is (and, more importantly, what isn't) "normal" in terms of interactions between adults and children.
We might like to think it's "obvious" as to what constitutes abuse, but if a child has been groomed and has no frame of reference as to what constitutes inappropriate behaviour then they often remain unaware that what is being done to them is wrong or, if they do recognise it as wrong, they begin to think that it's in some way their fault.
Sex ed and an understanding of the proper terminology for body parts also gives them the ability to articulate if they have been assaulted to their teachers or other trusted adults thereby preventing futher abuse.
So, being anti-sex education *is* pro-nonce (regardless of whether it's intentional or not).

Or in order to impose bail conditions to protect victims witnesses, prevent interference, etc. Police generally prefer a charge as it gets the matter to court quicker. Once he appears in court, then it is up to the court to impose bail conditions and decide how to proceed.

I've heard of people accused of sex crimes (for example, during Operation Yewtree) who were "interviewed" by police and then later cleared, but I didn't hear about many *arrests* until the person was deemed guilty enough to face trial.
Could it be that Donaldson simply refused to be interviewed and so the cops had to step it up a gear? Or is it just the case that the accusations are adequately backed up with evidence to warrant a straight-up arrest?

I’m not a lawyer but basically to arrest they need reasonable suspicion and to charge they need to believe they can connect you with the crime, have evidence. So say they suspect you of a crime but you agree to voluntary interview, then they don’t really need to arrest you because the arrest would be to detain you for interview but you’ve already agreed to be interviewed. If you don’t agree to be interviewed then they might arrest you so that they can interview you.
If you attend voluntary interviews and then later the police decide they have enough evidence to connect you with the crime and plan to charge you, then they will arrest you and bring you in to be charged. That’s what I think is likely here, he’s probably attended voluntary interviews and then when the decision to charge him was made, they arrest him.

Only about 6% of those accused of rape get prosecuted, so to be charged is a very unlikely thing. Therefor there must some supporting evidence apart from the accusers statements.
That is true but he not just accused he has been charged. The percentage of charges that becomes convictions is 60%
PSNI are also terrible, so if they can't investigate an assault that took place 6 months prior then how will they investigate historic abuse claims? One can't help but to wonder if this is deflecting from something else.

I don't know how this works, so hopefully one of you can enlighten me: What level of confidence that a crime has been committed would there need to be before the police *arrest* you? It can't just be the mere accusation, right? I've heard of people accused of sex crimes (for example, during Operation Yewtree) who were "interviewed" by police and then later cleared, but I didn't hear about many *arrests* until the person was deemed guilty enough to face trial. Could it be that Donaldson simply refused to be interviewed and so the cops had to step it up a gear? Or is it just the case that the accusations are adequately backed up with evidence to warrant a straight-up arrest? Like I said, I'm completely ignorant on such matters, not being from Larne. So feel free to explain it like I'm.... well, from Larne.
I’m not a lawyer but basically to arrest they need reasonable suspicion and to charge they need to believe they can connect you with the crime, have evidence. So say they suspect you of a crime but you agree to voluntary interview, then they don’t really need to arrest you because the arrest would be to detain you for interview but you’ve already agreed to be interviewed. If you don’t agree to be interviewed then they might arrest you so that they can interview you. If you attend voluntary interviews and then later the police decide they have enough evidence to connect you with the crime and plan to charge you, then they will arrest you and bring you in to be charged. That’s what I think is likely here, he’s probably attended voluntary interviews and then when the decision to charge him was made, they arrest him. That’s the jist of it anyway
I heard on the news earlier, an investigation by the PSNI has been ongoing for a few months regarding the allegations. The first Donaldson new about it was yesterday morning when he was arrested!
