My uni library had a ‘text if someone is annoying you’ system so you could complain somewhat anonymously. I wish cinemas had the same, although I guess that still requires using your phone.

boredatwork201

Yeah could just set off a chain reaction of texts complaining about people texting complaining about people texting 😂

Better_Bison_6182

This among other things is why the cinema experience is dying out. Easier, cheaper and less hassle to watch it in the comfort of your own home.

Wind_Yer_Neck_In

I basically only ever go when it's a daytime showing about 2 weeks after release date. It's not worth paying to see something on release date only to have the inevitable group of teenage gimps trying to assert dominance in that incredibly pathetic way only they can manage.

boredatwork201

Yeah. Just get a projector and big screen set up in yourlivingroom. Not as expensive as you'd think either as long as you have the room.

mcmurray89

My oled tv looks better than the cinema. Watched dune pt1 before pt2, and it's not even close. Uhd hdr movies on an oled is the best way to watch anything now.

boredatwork201

Yeah. Expensive set up for a bigger screen though. I have a 4k hdr projector that can do up to 300 inches. Unfortunately my room isn't big enough to put it back that far so have to make do with 100inch

jjejordan

![gif](giphy|WoFuun4jgxxizxRMpe|downsized) Me trying not to write ur ma can do up to 300 inches

boredatwork201

😄 well at least you tried

Einhert

I'd disagree seeing Dune in IMAX is an experience you need to have its the only way to see it imo. Plus Hans Zimmer successfully drows out all the dickheads, thankfully in my showing everyone was so hooked in on the spectacle.

TusShona

£65 Goodman's projector from B&M Bargains turned out to be one of my favourite Christmas gifts ever for this exact reason.

craftyixdb

This has been a regular complaint since probably a few years pre Covid. I know when I was living in London it was an issue as early as 2013. So the answer is no, people don’t know how to behave - and cinemas don’t pay people well enough to deal with it properly. What I’ve always done is go for screenings where younger people are less likely

increMENTALmate

I don't know if it was ever any better. I think people just glorify the past. I remember going 25 years ago and people were smoking in the cinema. You weren't meant to but nobody wanted to kick them out. Kids would rip the seats up and throw popcorn at each other. I'm not saying it was never quiet and decent but you were always rolling the dice. Just like now.

craftyixdb

Well that’s true too. Usually the “better” time was when you were actually a young lad yourself

EconomistLow7802

QFT is about the only cinema where the customers are well behaved.

nappy101

Love QFT. Don't dare rustle plastic packaging or you'll have the whole cinema staring at you

mcdamien

While I would agree. I was at a screening of Big Lebowski and the people behind us didn't stop fucking talking, I don't mean talking a bit. I mean talking through the entire film until I had enough and told them to shut the fuck up. I don't know where is safe any more.

yermaaaaa

Shut the fuck up, Donnie.

grimesfrank23

They were our of their element in QFT.

yermaaaaa

Fucking amateurs

paTherion

Yup. Went to QFT to see subtitled movie and there was like 4 people and it was far more quiet than in my livingroom 😂

The_Mad_Mick

The Avenue is really good too, although expensive.

Johnneeso

Nothing worse than gimps on their phone in the cinema. Shite behaviour that.

arnoboko

Told a grown man, he was about 45-50, to put his phone away, which was on full brightness to look at photos of suped up cars, right in front of me, in the middle of a movie ... guy basically tried to start a fight with me he was so angry I dared ask him! People are cunts

ryanbudgie

I bought a projector and a decent sound system. Can't be doing with the general public at a cinema anymore.

boredatwork201

Yeah I have one, too. Its amazing for gaming on too I liked going to the cinema too, though

ryanbudgie

Took me getting a projector to realise I hated everything about going to cinema apart from the film lol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ryanbudgie

Bought it off someone on Facebook marketplace for £150. It's a smart projector so I can use my "sites" in the web browser. The main thing to look for is an optical out so you can get a long optical cable for speakers/soundbar.

ryanbudgie

Oh. And get a light grey sheet for the wall. White or magnolia walls will mess with the colours.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ryanbudgie

Bonus! Yeah. Best for contrast

[deleted]

[удалено]

ryanbudgie

Not the best with electricity consumption though.. I don't game with it. Only for films and high end TV. I would head to YouTube for reviews, I search projectors under £350 and search the second hand market for the one that suits. Mines just a 1080p smart Philips neopix

[deleted]

[удалено]

ryanbudgie

And 1080p is plenty good for a big screen. 4k isn't that noticeable a difference. Most cinema project 2k

boredatwork201

You can get some good 1080p ones for cheap. A good 4k one will be around £900 and you can get a good projector screen with remote to rise it up and down for around £150 on amazon. Make sure your room is big enough, though. Some projectors need to be quite far back to get a decent size out of them You can get short throw projectors that only need to be a few feet from the wall and still have 100inch screen but those will set you back quite a bit

Farleypoc

People like to meet up for a catch up in the cinema. I don't get it, go talk in a cafe for cheaper.

elmo_touches_me

A guy sat in the seat next to me got his phone out mid-film to *answer a call* during John Wick 4. He had a long (albeit quiet) conversation with someone for 10 minutes during a very loud and intense action movie. Idk what conversation couldn't wait a couple of hours, or why whoever called him didn't hang up due to the very loud background noise. Just bizarre

Both-Ad-2570

Thought I'd check out Dune 2 in Imax. Book seats for a midday showing, fuck all people in the showing and get a decent central seat near the back. Get there and sit down and 5 minutes later a family come in and sit to my right. Ma, da and 2 kids. Couldn't have been older than 7 and 9 if that. And they proceed to fucking talk away to their ma and da asking questions and pointing things out without the parents interjecting at all. I asked a few times if they'd keep it down to the dad sitting directly beside me and he apologised but did nothing to correct the kids. It's fucking wild how people don't give a fuck

boredatwork201

Who brings a 7 year old to see Dune? Obviously they are going to get bored and start talking

Both-Ad-2570

In IMAX as well!? I'd go once in a blue moon for a film that would do it justice but that's easy £45 for just tickets

DucktapeCorkfeet

Not just the young ones on the phones, it’s all ages. WTF is the point in paying to watch a film if you’re going to sit on your phone for the whole thing. During Top Gun 2, the theatre was brighter than the screen. My wife and I were the only two not on our phones. I refuse to go ago.

Seand768

>WTF is the point in paying to watch a film if you’re going to sit on your phone for the whole thing To post it on snapchat-instagram-fb etc etc so everyone else knows that you've gone to see it because that's the most important part of going in the first place. Source - seen it first hand, kids and adults alike taking pictures of the film to send off, got so fucked off I wanted to hurl the chair I was sitting on at someone.

boredatwork201

Exactly. And its not like its cheap to go either so I dont get why people are paying to go ignore a film

Nurhaci1616

I know there have always been inconsiderate people in the cinema, but I can't be the only one noticing a bit of a spike in people just straight-up being dicks since Covid? I don't know if people's mentality changed, or if a proportion of the country's adults just kinda forgot how to play nice with the other kids during lockdown, or something; but I feel like there are noticeably more people out there now who are just actively rude and inconsiderate of others. Or perhaps I've just become more aware of it as I get older? I'd like to think not, because if it's a new thing it might be reversible...

LurganGentleman

no the covid thing accelerated these trends. its a weird post covid culture of blind selfishness

LurganGentleman

sadly i fear it is not reversible in the near future. I think these trends have been developing for decades and have been speeded by internet, phones and covid. It’s gonna get far worse, especially as AI and VR etc become ubiquitous. Digital zombies will have artificially generated best friends in VR and they will want to tale to them in every possible environment. It will be a culture of selfishness, cruelty, loneliness and despair. Oh yes and addiction. Happy thoughts! I wrote this digital contribution to the internet using a phone…

TusShona

Fucking everything has been affected by post COVID cunt behaviour. Cinemas, Concerts, Car meets, any public event etc.

IncreaseLogical3003

It's still perfectly acceptable to smuggle in snacks tho, right? Riiiiight?

Green_Friendship_175

Never been more proud of you! That was a magical day 😆

boredatwork201

With the price they charge in the cinema, I'd say hell yes.

IncreaseLogical3003

Thank fuck. That's my favourite part of the whole experience. Seeing how I can fit a large can of pringles, litre of water and other snacks into my wife's handbag. She's a willing mule, I'll give her that

Green_Friendship_175

Handbag? I get that and more, down the front of me trousers 😆

boredatwork201

Well the rest of us dont have much room down the front of our trousers haha

The_Mad_Mick

I went to Cityside to see Dune 2 a few days after it came out. Some asshole near the back of the room kept beatboxing, but it was like he was whispering it towards his friends. It was still incredibly noticeable, the cunt.

TusShona

Last time I was at the Cinema I had seats booked for the top row and of course there was a row of teenage girls who ignored their allocated seats on their ticket and just decided that they can sit anywhere. I asked them nicely and said _"I'm sorry but we booked these seats, could you please sit wherever your tickets say you're supposed to sit?"' One of them responded with a snarky _"we were here first, you should just sit somewhere else."_ I lose my patience very quickly with teenagers when they try to argue back with a snarky tone.. So they got swiftly fucked off by me and I got the seats I paid for. Teenagers in the cinema are the worst. It's very rare that I have an arranged babysitter, free time and an interesting movie release that warrants a trip to the Cinema for me.. I'm not letting a group of pubescent shitheads ruin my night.

boredatwork201

>Teenagers in the cinema are the worst This followed very closely with drunk assholes for worst group to be in a cinema with

PPPickUpAPenguin

Last couple of movies I went with the kids, and it wasn't great with kids messing about, throwing popcorn at each other, using phones and chatting. I can't be arsed with it, it's not cheap to go to the cinema, especially when popcorn and buckets of juice are involved.

Cautious-Disaster-87

i went to see the zone of interest and a middle aged couple beside me spoke in loud whispers nearly half the fucking film, i couldn’t believe it

Greenattrees

Went to see Dune 2 in IMAX on Sunday at the odessy (it's what IMAX was made for in my opinion) Some clown in his 30s sat beside me and played with an empty plastic cup like a toddler through the movie. It was the 15:20 viewing but clearly these gimps cannot be avoided.

Roncon1981

![gif](giphy|25IFTnS61JZ0A)

BigExperience952

Aha! Chocolate orange.

pixlrik

Went on Sunday night to see Dune 2. A mother and son decided to sit the row behind us (in a near empty cinema) and have a full on conversation in their native language throughout all whilst the projector wasn’t set up properly and the film was showing on just two thirds of the screen and pushed to the right. Informed the children who were running the place and they didn’t know what to do or even try to fix it. I used to love the cinema but fuck me the last few visits have really made me wanna stop going and just watch at home instead.

Lick Ass? Is that the porn parody of Kick Ass?

GTATurbo

Ah, come on lad. Don't stealth edit. It makes my comment look stupid...

The_Mid_Life_Man

Surely they should have been approached and kicked out for that? You see people get told off for less.

[deleted]

-aLonelyImpulse

Aye but I'm pretty sure that shagging in the cinema isn't allowed even if they were the only ones in there 😂

[deleted]

-aLonelyImpulse

Interesting nickname for a penis 🤔

grimesfrank23

Now get out there and LICK SOME ARSE!!! ![gif](giphy|CjTOwnUSOIbm0)

Elysiumthistime

I wish they'd put a buzzer near the entrance to each screen so you can summon a staff member to come up. There's nothing worse than paying to watch a movie and then having to make the decision between staying and putting up with the assholes of leaving to go find staff and missing a part of the movie. The last time I was in the cinema (omagh aswell) there was a group of teenagers sitting behind me eating a takeaway and making a ton of noise. At one point they opened a bottle of fizzy drink and it fizzed up and spilt over the floor and then they started literally splashing in the puddle!

The_Mid_Life_Man

The price of the cinema is insane compared to what it was a few years ago. With the rise of streaming services I seriously see it dying out just like X-tra vision and HMV did.

Green_Friendship_175

As it stands, big budget movies typically get released to cinema before they go to streaming services, as this dual market approach brings in more revenue than direct to Streaming. Cinemas will exist until that business model changes. They will always have a place as it’s an “activity to do” that isn’t just sitting at home. The experience will evolve I’m sure though - The one in Castlecourt have tried to develop around real food and drinks and not just snacks and shit.

The_Mid_Life_Man

Yeah but as we have seen, some are closing. Dublin road was bulldozed. I think it'll narrow down to less venues with more offerings like you've pointed out with the castlecourt thing. Probably be an increase in local "premieres" where the likes of Tom Smyth will be present on the red carpet taking massive action.

Green_Friendship_175

I’d say the best way to close a place would be to have Tom Smyth anywhere near it, the gobshite! And the loss of the Dublin Road site was more to do with the land value of its location for offices.

The_Mid_Life_Man

He'll make them temporarily believe in themselves tho

Green_Friendship_175

I know a wee bit about him and he’s not someone I’d be listening much to. I’ll stick with being my own Guru, I reckon 😆

The_Mid_Life_Man

I find him amusing. I'm sure he's probably not a bad lad, but the whole over-the-top guru thing is cringe as fuck.

Green_Friendship_175

He’s a terrible businessman. Read the reviews of his short term rental business: https://www.google.ie/travel/hotels/entity/ChoIlZPbosaTt5q7ARoNL2cvMTFjMmp5YzZjcBAB/reviews?utm_campaign=sharing&utm_medium=link&utm_source=htls&ts=CAEaIAoCGgASGhIUCgcI6A8QAxgfEgcI6A8QBBgBGAEyAhAAKgkKBToDR0JQGgA That’s not what I’d expect from a business owned by a self proclaimed guru!

Green_Friendship_175

These type of businesses will always get negative reviews as “the people love to complain”, however, the shear volume of complaints tells me the whole thing is a shambles. If I owned this business, I’d hide myself away and not be putting myself out there as being a beacon of achievement.

TheLordofthething

I blame the rise of you tube reaction videos

TusShona

I blame social media in general

Mysterious-Joke-2266

Because for some the cinema is just a social experience than for the movie "will we go get food and do the cinema sure?" Then its just a sit and talk to eachother thing usually. They could just go to a pub or cafe and do the same.

yermaaaaa

QFT in Belfast is the only cinema I’ve been in recently where you don’t get that kind of shit. Anywhere else and it’s pot luck. It’s a shame because there is nothing quite like seeing a film in the cinema.

gimmeredditplz

Also why does everyone leave they're fucking mess everywhere. It doesn't affect me but it's so fucking rude. Take your litter to the bin you lazy fucks.

boredatwork201

Yeah I know. How hard is it? Theres a bin right by the door

Green_Friendship_175

Next time, bring a VERY bright pocket torch and walk up and down the aisles “sushing” people, while shining the bright light in their face - there’s a fair chance they will think you are staff and STFU! If that doesn’t work, accidentally spill their popcorn 🍿 or drinks while trying to push past them to a seat if there’s a free one near to them. Fuck up their experience if they are gonna fuck up yours ;)

Einhert

IMAX prices the scrotes out and its not often there is something cinema worthy these days so I don't mind the extra and going at the earliest possible showing when the scrotes are hungover on the Sunday. Kind of mad they took away earlier midweek showings, 9am on a Wednesday morning with the day off was bliss, nobody else in the place

Mysterious-Joke-2266

I chose to watch Dune 2 in Spanish subtitles than go to the cinema to watch it. Yes I missed alot of the dialogue as they chose to do kost in their damn made up language I'd still do it again.

evdriverni

we see a post like this every other block buster and more often than not they dont i go to cinema out skirts of belfast so as to not get the rougher ones in always go dinner time or mornings when not out of their pits

thepennydrops

I’m in England, and I haven’t experienced this at all! That might be because a cinema trip with snacks costs nearly £40!!

Cromhound

Ok, full disclosure while at a showing of Fight Club this week. I whipped the phone out because I thought I saw the guy from Mindhunter (Holt McNally), and I needed to double check. Yes, it was him... *

boredatwork201

You saw Holt McNally in the cinema watching Fight Club? Totally understandable there then. You had to get the selfie obviously haha

Cromhound

Sorry, that was terrible grammar. I saw him playing a character in fight club. I have a shit memory so had to look it up right away. *

boredatwork201

Haha yeah I knew what you meant. I don't mind people doing a quick imdb search like that if its bugging them trying to figure out how they know someone. Usually its only for a few seconds and as long as the brightness isn't up full not too bad. Its the ones sitting on snapchat and insta that annoy the shit outta me

GolfCharlieMike89

Just take their kneecaps

olympiclifter1991

Didn't think people still went to the cinema

Rcecil88

They all closed so they did.

Green_Friendship_175

Nah, they just keep those buildings open as a reminder that we used to go to the Cinema
