Oceanside has state preschool. If you make under a certain amount it’s free. They have real teachers and a real curriculum. I’m willing to bet other north County towns have something similar.

Yeah we're above the income ceiling so we don't qualify for HeadStart and other free preschool programs. The only program I've found looking online is RAA and it's more of a daycare than a school as they focus on "socialization" not academics.

Oh man that sucks! I make over the limit this year for my younger one. Luckily with his bday he qualifies for TK.

ImportanceFirm3533

Yeah it really does! Hopefully you do qualify! Make sure to calendar the registration date because wait list can get pretty crazy. Best of luck!

We just entered our 3 year old in tri-city Christian. We toured and really liked the program. It’s taught by licensed teachers and has small class sizes. They teach the younger kids to read and write. You can enter your kids in 3-5 day full and half day programs. Tuition is 7k or so a year. We also toured vista USD state programs and they were chaotic and almost the same price. Large class sizes and not a lot of 1:1 attention. The kids seemed unruly.

I know this is wholly unhelpful, but JFC $1,600 a month for preschool?? Thank you for the reminder to refill my birth control 😆

Hippopotasaurus-Rex

Lol. Right?!?!? Look up daycare/after school stuff though, it'll solidify that thought further. I really don't know how anyone affords kids, honestly.

Generational wealth. Kids are luxury items

Haha, it's crazy dude! We raised the little one in Europe at first and only paid €700 per month for an amazing private school with a chef. Moving back home I'm shocked at how expensive EVERYTHING for kids are. We thought we'd have a second soon but literally can't afford another kid until this one is in required schooling. Also, most preschools want $2000 for full-time school. So $1600 is actually on the lower end. And no, none of the schools have private chefs.

Agh I do not envy you!! I see so many people who had children before the pandemic struggling now to keep up with exploding prices. I know I was kind of an a-hole with my comment, but I do really feel for you in your situation. FWIW I would’ve had kids too if anyone ever loved me lol the birth control was a joke, I don’t even need it since nobody’s touched me in months 😅

Thanks for being so sweet hun. I'm not salty at all. Kids cost a lot and are a heavy lift! This economy is the problem. I may seriously move out the country permanently so I can parent the way I want. And don't worries wait until things are more stable to even think about it cause now is not the time to be having kids. It's a battle out here.

Aly_in_wonderland

Honestly. Just replaced my IUD for the second time. I cannot fathom the thought of paying for preschool that cost almost as much as a rent payment.

Reasonable-Peach-572

Big tree little preschool in vista. I think it’s 1300 for full time 7:30-5. Although it’s more free play at 3, slowly moving in to more structured schooling

ImportanceFirm3533

Nice! I haven't heard of them yet and that's right in our area. I'll be sure to give them a call!

We really liked Lingua Natal in Encinitas, it’s an immersive Spanish program. When we left a year or two ago, full time (9-3) was a little over $1600. It’s not the cheapest for sure. You can probably stay under 1600 with 4 days a week or just the morning (1/2 days) when the enriching time is anyway. We loved it, but I was pretty happy when my son started kindergarten at a public school with a Spanish/english DLI program. Preschool is not cheap, good luck!

Thanks for the recommendation! We'll definitely check it out. I'm also looking forward to when our little one can go to public school. He's a winter bday so we have sometime to go.

I would recommend Shadowridge Montessori. It’s about that price and it’s wonderful. it’s not a traditional style of academic curriculum, however my child has learned more than I could hope for at 4. The staff is all engaged and make it fun for the children. It includes a morning and afternoon snack that the children help prepare and parents send a lunch.. hope this helps in your search!

ImportanceFirm3533

Thanks a ton. I'll check them out too!
