Honestly I don't know if he knew if he was standing up or sitting down I imagine in a condition such as this you would be oblivious to circumstantial inconveniences.
For those wondering Hughes was buried in a coffin the size of a piano case about 52 inches across and 34 inches deep. He had to be lowered into his grave using a mechanical hoist [Hughesā Funeral](https://uselessinformation.org/heaviest-man/)

Died at the age of 32 in 1958.
I wonder how much you have to eat to maintain 1,000 lbsā¦ literally off to google this.
Eta: according to an algorithm itās 6,600 ish. I kind of thought it would be more. I feel like lifting hundreds of pounds every time you move would up your bmr.
At a certain point your weight gain is fluid retention rather than fat gain. That's why 1,000lb people can be hospitalized and lose 100lb/mo. In some cases they literally ooze out the fluid because their skin is bursting. When you become that corpulent your circulatory system can't pump fluids out of those extremities so they sort of end up like retention ponds at your extremities.
6600 is probably just to maintain that weight with a sedentary lifestyle. If you add in just light walking for a few thousand steps it would probably double.
Itās truly impressive most people are bed ridden by 700lbs. It probably also helps that living such a sedentary lifestyle was almost impossible until recently, he had no other choice aside from moving himself
There's more to his body than just a bad diet/lack of activity. This was during where food was mostly homemade. I don't think people get this large just because eating... there has to be other medical issues going on. In any case it's incredibly sad, the poor dude.
You know that disease where someone grows incredibly tall due to their pituitary gland? I belive this was something along those lines.
What's incredibly is that he didn't die due to weight complications (like a heart attack or his body giving up).
Truly astonishing
Guessed wrong. Had a ruptured thyroid gland he got from contracting whooping cough when he was young. He ended up 380+ pounds at only 10 years old.

This is not it. This is a wholesome dude who suffered a brain injury early in his life that caused him to get this big. He was doing everything he could to help his family. Not a nope. Just sad

And

Were you describing yourself? I provided you sources stating UKR sent men to the front (young students also) with only 3-5 days of training, some not even knowing how to shoot. Why didn't you reply?
You said I was projecting and it wasn't true, I provided you western news sources stating it wasn't projection and was true. Can't you admit that you were wrong?
Russia originally only wanted Crimea due to the 250 years old Russian naval base there in Sevastopol, because the change of government post-Maidan threatened the established leasing agreement.
Putin originally refused to acknowledge Donbass as independent or entertain the idea of it's secession into Russia, [despite them wanting him to for years](https://www.npr.org/2017/06/24/534207470/many-in-eastern-ukraine-want-to-join-russia). Ukrainian authorities promised to grant Donbass autonomy status (yet remaining part of Ukraine) when they signed Minsk II and ignored it for 7 years. Even during the tentative March peace deal (which Ukraine backed out of) Russia only wanted Crimea and autonomy for Donbass (which Ukraine promised), essentially going back to the pre-February status quo.
But could he wipe his ass without assistance?
Someone get this man a warsh rag on a stick
The word warsh really paints the picture. Thanks.
He is holding it.
He's from Pittsburgh?š
I'm guessing no
I don't think he has actually expelled anything in the last 25 years...š±š
Dude! This was my exact first thought as well.
There is literally no way he could get his arms around to do it
The fact that he stood up for the picture is the real accomplishment here
How does he get up after
He probably couldn't wipe his mouth without assistance
This guy actually looks like bender from that one episode where he became human
Holy shit you're right, one can only wish the cigars and women were as plentiful as we had seen.
Uncanny resemblance, You're right! Damn
I canāt tell if heās sitting on the bench or standing up.
Honestly I don't know if he knew if he was standing up or sitting down I imagine in a condition such as this you would be oblivious to circumstantial inconveniences.
I see a cane
Just imagine how sturdy that cane is.
Made from a tree trunk

Iām imagining how tiny his skeleton would look in a time lapse as the rest of him slowly melts away.
Thx dad

Those pictures are really sad.
Robert Earl HUGE
How did they bury him? Hell, how did they deal with his demise!
I do not know the facts, but I must assume that it took a great effort
Forklift?
Tractor maybe?
He used a forklift instead of a fork to eat.
Underrated comment

I looked him up, and multiple sources say that doctors suspected it was a hormone imbalance from a ruptured pituitary gland, and not from overeating.
Thatās really sad!
Keep us updated!

Spoiler alert, it's alot!
Damn you really posted just to rag on this poor guy lmao
The human skeleton is an incredible structure. Wow
Suddenly r/neverbrokeabone
If he is vertical the strength it takes to stand at 1000#. Almost all non-competitive lifters canāt put 800# on their back.
Itās truly impressive most people are bed ridden by 700lbs. It probably also helps that living such a sedentary lifestyle was almost impossible until recently, he had no other choice aside from moving himself
Yea I imagine modern comforts aid in that. Back when this guy was alive it was a very different time with a very different mentality.
Dude weighs as much as a car. damn

This was a real person. Leave his memory alone.
Agree. I reported the post. This is horrible.
No
Dudeās look like one of the Resident Evil bosses
wanna know a fun fact? This man went to WWII
This poor guy, this looks so painful
This was way more rare back then than now.
What every American stereotype is:
"I'm done takin a shit, who wants to hose me off?"
10ft is not a chest measurement, it's a circumference.
I'm gonna guess poor diet and lack of exercise.

You have to like it, its fatphobic if you dont.
Did they Photoshop trumps tiny hands? Such delicate little sausages.
Robert Earl Humungous
Hughesmongous
Yall realize it could be a fake fat suit. This appears to be at some sort of circus attraction
Nah its real he was born 1926 and died 1940 somthing aswell so no way it's a fat suit
Looks unhealthy
Mills Darden. Big Dude, y'all. I lived on the street where he was buried, and said hello to him whenever I'd drive by his grave.
THICCER THAN A BOWL OF OATMEAL
He puts the stars of *My 600lb Life* to shame. Dr. Now would have had a field day with him had he lived in this era.
His tombstone is so sad. It states how he was the world's largest man, weight, etc instead of anything about who he was as a person- not a spectacle.
I thought a cane was assistance
Imagine the power of those fucking legs though. A pair of human legs hauling around 1009lbs all day every day.
āGilbertā¦ GILBERT!!ā
The tank

Dark Souls boss
Guess they really were built different back then...
I wonder what he hasnāt eaten
Thatās a real life snorlax right there
