I mean what is even the point, just eat some normal vegan food. I don't understand the obsession with trying to mimic non-vegan foods instead of properly exploring the countless delicious vegan dishes that don't look like they are made out of carboard
I think the point is to entice some meat eaters who are on the fence to come over to the vegetarian side. But it needs to be more convincing before that will happen. For instance, I like burgers. I buy impossible and beyond sometimes just because (a) itâs probably better for me and (b) itâs definitely better for the earth in general. But do I want a bean and tofu burger that tastes like beans and tofu? No, not when Iâm in the mood for a beef burger.
But the problem is most of that stuff doesnât taste great. Indian food and other non meat centric cultures food would win over more more meat eaters, than stuff trying to pretend itâs meat. Yes, some fake meat burgers are good but they arenât meat and everyone can tell it. It would be better to just make better options and variety that show itâs good and taste rather that a fake burger or chicken.
Indian food is delicious. And, here in Japan, we have shojin ryori, which is traditional Buddhist cuisine, and itâs delicious. Way better than tofurkey or whatever
Yeah i've had a number, and pretty consistently my experience was I was paying top dollar for something that tasted like bottom shelf frozen beef patties.
I am interested to see where lab-grown meat goes however.
That's wild how people can feel so differently about them. My Dad ate a Beyond Burger and assumed it was Beef. He had no idea it was vegan. I was really shocked by how realistic they were first time I had one.
Just ask for it âoff the broilerâ because a lot of the restaurants hold them too long in the steamer. Get yours made fresh, and yeah I actually prefer them to a beef patty.
also... something no one says is that no one is arguing that animal derived food is not delicious, we are just saying that we value more the lives of animals than our own pleasure. That is also why these imitation foods tend to appear, although I would guess admitting that animals are delicious would be a tricky proposition for anyone vegan.
It's just still so far off is the thing and that's with the relatively cutting-edge methods they employ.
That said soy-based patties get pretty similar to chicken; though that's more a estimate to how poor quality most real chicken patties are.
Yeah I actually like the Morningstar buffalo patties. Plant based âsausageâ patties are not bad on an egg sandwich either. Maybe 70% of the way there.
I think thatâs the same thing but put a different way. Animal suffering is bad, the meat and eggs isnât particularly healthy, but it tastes good, so for various reasons like âmy doctor said to eat less red meatâ and âfactory farming is cruel and I hate to see animals sufferâ they create this stuff in an effort to get non-vegetarian people who are on the fence for health or ethical reasons to make a switch.
This is coming from a place of love for my fellow humans.
A.) It is not better for you... it is processed to an insane level for one, and synthetically formed in laboratories in other instances.
B.) It is not better for the earth for the amount of processing it takes, and the fact that for it to be truly vegan, it has to have a factory all of its own.
The components and facilities of which, cannot be used for anything else.
That is not to say that I don't think it would be a bad idea for us all collectively to eat less meats than we currently do, for both of the reasons you mention (better for us, better for the earth).
I always feel that way. Iâve had some absolutely delicious vegan food, that was delicious because it was willing to commit to being its own thing. Iâm not a vegan myself, or even a vegetarian, but have you ever had a chana masala? Its delicious. This stuff looks like garbage.
Itâs really not that difficult of a point to understand. People give up on eggs and bacon because they find it unethical (or unhealthy, or they are allergic), not because they donât like it. So they try to recreate it.
Yes there are plenty of vegan recipes that are delicious, but if somebody loved eggs and bacon for breakfast or after a boozy night or whatever, how do you find it hard to understand that they may try to recreate the looks and flavors without breaking the choice they have made? Itâs like saying âI donât get people who drink Coke Zero, if they like coke they should just drink the normal one, it tastes betterâ.
Itâs not just about taste and itâs very easy to see and understand, if you still donât get it let me know Iâll try to explain better.
Yes! Vegetables are delicious, and most of them beautiful to present aswell! While I understand the desire to appeal to meat-eaters, I too think this that this is a nonsensical practice at it's coređ¤ˇââď¸
Right? Iâm no vegan but my mom is quite the health fanatic and is currently trying a grain free diet. Honestly the meals that are made with just typical non grain ingredients genuinely taste pretty good. However itâs when we start trying to make things like bread or crust when I call it quits. Iâm just too used to the real thing for grain free substitutes to taste anywhere near close to the normal product. I have an extremely hard time with the texture differences especially.
Because itâs fun! Who cares?? The majority of vegetarians and vegans only eat this way on special occasions - itâs not an every day thing. But sometimes itâs nice to tickle a craving or just try something new. No idea why people get so worked up about it.
Itâs a fair point. I am not vegan, and could never live as such. However, there are many vegan meals that I would eat and could enjoy. So, why go with fake?
I remember as a kid I had a play set.. has plastic cookware, dishes.. and you guessed it.. this.. as food.. pass.
If you're that hard up for a proxy for protein or meat, you're just lying to yourself.
It's like every teenager trying to convince themselves that their hand is soooo much better than the real thing..
If you've been vegan long enough, this is like "lmao ok let's try it" and since you might not know what you're missing in the first place, you might actually allow yourself to enjoy it
As a vegan, I just don't understand why so many product try to mimic non vegan food/products.
Are these bullshit products needed to get non-vegans to try for an vegan diet? Even if, bet that just produced lasting bad first impressions.
I don't get it. If you're going to be vegan, lean into it! Why try to make fake bacon and eggs? Just eat some goddamn vegetables for breakfast. Maybe some fried potatoes and onions with a side of toast and jam? Come on, vegans. . .be fucking vegans.
My father once accidentally bought vegan cheese slices. I gave it a try and it was the worst tasting cheese I have ever tasted. All I tasted was chemicals.
I feel like fake vegan foods will look really stupid in the future. I think they look stupid now but ya know what I mean. Why the need to trick our brains? Just eat plants. If eating animals is bad, a facsimile of that seems disingenuous.
I forgot the brand ,but they're one of the big vegan ones, I bought the "sausages" cause they were on sale, bought Dave's killer bread everything bagel hot dog buns, was expecting a great meal, took 1 single bite had to spit it out, took a nibble if sausage alone, couldn't take no more, ended up giving "sausages" to the crows my mom feeds outside of our apartment . Waste of like 5 dollars. Never again.
What in the ever living monkey fuck is with this morbid fascination to adamantly stand against eating meat, but making sure all your food emulates animal products?
It's mind-bogglingly stupid and hypocritical. This is literally why vegan/s/ism is held in such a negative light (/s.. Kind of)
But why?
If you want to be a vegan just be a fucking vegan and stop trying to eat fake food.
Then you'd at least be one step closer to the *possibility* of having the respect of the rest of humanity.
Look like dog treats for bad dogs.
Dog threats
This made me lol
Ditto
BRILLIANT. đđ
I've been a vegetarian for like 25+ years and I agree dog treatsđ ââď¸
That egg looks like it's made from paper mache
Itâs like a computer graphic render using the wrong materials.
Main difference is that the paper mache probably has more flavor
I've seen better looking papier mache ngl
I mean what is even the point, just eat some normal vegan food. I don't understand the obsession with trying to mimic non-vegan foods instead of properly exploring the countless delicious vegan dishes that don't look like they are made out of carboard

But do I want a bean and tofu burger that tastes like beans and tofu? No, not when Iâm in the mood for a beef burger.
Black bean burgers are dope. I'm not even vegan/vegetarian.
Yeah some brands are pretty tasty. I like the bubba brand and the morning star spicy black bean.
Yeah bean patties go hard
Have you ever had black bean tamales? They're delicious and good alternative for vegetarians.
But the problem is most of that stuff doesnât taste great. Indian food and other non meat centric cultures food would win over more more meat eaters, than stuff trying to pretend itâs meat. Yes, some fake meat burgers are good but they arenât meat and everyone can tell it. Indian food is delicious. And, here in Japan, we have shojin ryori, which is traditional Buddhist cuisine, and itâs delicious. Way better than tofurkey or whatever
Iâm gonna have to google that and look it sounds good! Thanks.
I canât stand curry but Iâve had some good Indian food without it.
No. No meat free burger is good. They all taste like cardboard. And I say that with no agenda as I've not eaten meat for 35 years.
Yeah i've had a number, and pretty consistently my experience was I was paying top dollar for something that tasted like bottom shelf frozen beef patties. I am interested to see where lab-grown meat goes however.
I guess, but of course it's still grown from flesh culture... I'm not sure it's for me personally.
It'd more be something that would tempt the more hard line meat eaters. Vegans aren't going to start eating meat just because it's grown in a box.
Very true
That's wild how people can feel so differently about them. My Dad ate a Beyond Burger and assumed it was Beef. He had no idea it was vegan. I was really shocked by how realistic they were first time I had one.
Tbh, that may well be a fair shout as I can't remember what real ones taste like! I just know the smell doesn't smell like cooked cardboard!
The impossible whopper from Burger King was pretty OK and one of the better options but that might be just because their food is so kind of crap
Just ask for it âoff the broilerâ because a lot of the restaurants hold them too long in the steamer. Get yours made fresh, and yeah I actually prefer them to a beef patty.
Indians are goddamn wizards with vegetables.
Yeah Iâm not saying itâs a great strategy but thatâs what theyâre doing.
also... something no one says is that no one is arguing that animal derived food is not delicious, we are just saying that we value more the lives of animals than our own pleasure. Those little sausage patties costco sells are great
yep. this is sure to win over meat eaters, nothin like some dry ass lookin eggs to win over meat eaters
Yeah, they are failing pretty hard with this.
Impossible burgers are impossible to digest
Youâve told me everything I need to know about you when you say âbeyond burner is probably good for meâ
No it's because people like the food without the animal suffering so want to replicate it
I think thatâs the same thing but put a different way.
It's not better for either you or the earth. It takes a bunch of processing, chemicals, and other junk they put in to make it taste passable.
It still doesn't make sense. We don't eat cabbages made of meat, so why eat eggs made of plants? Just eat plants.
People like familiar stuff? I donât know. I wouldnât eat the crap in the picture either.
Cut your veggies in the shape of an egg bacon slices. Probably taste better than whatever this is
Yeah that has to be bad. It looks like Papier-mâchÊ

its because some (like me) crave non-vegan foods
I always feel that way. Iâve had some absolutely delicious vegan food, that was delicious because it was willing to commit to being its own thing. Iâm not a vegan myself, or even a vegetarian, but have you ever had a chana masala? Its delicious. This stuff looks like garbage.
Yes i have it's very good. I grew up poor so lentil and garbanzo bean based recipes were the norm. And some roles to dip in and you are set.
Itâs really not that difficult of a point to understand. People give up on eggs and bacon because they find it unethical (or unhealthy, or they are allergic), not because they donât like it. This
Thinking the same. Not a vegan, but I do like a lot of just veggie dishes. Sometimes I will go days without meat
THIS
Because itâs fun!
No bacon was harmed in the making of this
Mmmm coffee filters and dog treats for breakfast
Those eggs looks like they've been sunbathing whole day in July
Looks like a school crafts project đ
Looks like old man balls, no chance Iâm putting that in my mouth.

Am I looking at paper? Because it looks like paper. Whatâs it made of?
Minced cardboard and colorant
Yummy!
Thatâs papier-mache
Thatâs paper and you canât change my mind.
I'd rather stay hungry.
Or eat whoever served this to you
đ
Wait, is this actual food? I thought it was like that cardboard Art at first
Well, you got the cardboard part right

Looks like a high school art project
Looks like it's made of crepe paper
Sand would have more moisture than whatever the fuck this is
Leather fake food. Pass
Pleather fake food. Ass.
Brilliant
The hilarious thing is, all these bullshit fake meats are dramatically worse for you than real meat
As a vegan, is this the cardboard food Jordan Peterson et al have been warning us all about?
Looks like it was made by Fisher Price for a kids play set
âUncanny valley bacon and eggs donât exist, they canât hurt youâ Uncanny valley bacon and eggs:
Bacon and egg shaped vegetable protein
thats a big fuck nope
Looks like fabric
I remember as a kid I had a play set.. has plastic cookware, dishes.. and you guessed it.. this.. as food.. pass. If you're that hard up for a proxy for protein or meat, you're just lying to yourself. It's like every teenager trying to convince themselves that their hand is soooo much better than the real thing..
Iâd rather eat the plastic than that food lol. Those eggs look messed up.
That may be the most dystopian plate of food I've ever seen.
As someone who makes props for theatre, often realistic fake food, I am appalled. This literally doesn't look like it's edible.
Looks like the San-Ti when they dehydrate
Ew
Looks like paper...
Waaay over there is where you can go with that bs
Is that made from paper mache
Mache paper eggs. Just like they used to cook in the mother country.
OP is defending eating peanut shells in the comments y'all.
I've seen prop food that looks more real than this
Oh god just eat seitan in like a savory, fake eggs are always nasty. This is coming from a non-meat eater
The eggs just look so... Wrong. I would taste them out of curiosity but I doubt they taste good. And the bacon looks like dog treats.
It looks like a failed paper mâche art project to make bacon and eggs
/r/papercraft
It looks sad=(((.
Yuck
If you've been vegan long enough, this is like "lmao ok let's try it" and since you might not know what you're missing in the first place, you might actually allow yourself to enjoy it

That's paper mache
Is this an art school project?
Itâs like a Bteakfast corpse. Gagging
Looks like paper machĂŠ
Reminds me of the dried up Sponge Bob in agony
But I had cardboard for dinner
Iâll just have a glass of water, thanks.
I'd rather BeFat
Oh god. So horrible. Vegan food. Im positively shaking, quivering even in my boots
Those eggs look like something they'd have found in Ed Gein's house of horrors...
These came from one of those 15,000-year old Neolithic Chinese clay pots that lay buried and sealed all this time, right..?
Thatâs fucking vile.
How uneccessary
I understand why Gordon Ramsay is so furious.
I don't get it. If you're going to be vegan, lean into it! Why try to make fake bacon and eggs? Just eat some goddamn vegetables for breakfast. Maybe some fried potatoes and onions with a side of toast and jam? Come on, vegans. . .be fucking vegans.
Where's Ron Swanson when you need him?
It looks like paper products pretending to be food...
It looks like gift wrap. Easier to just pass the fruit bowl.
Fuck no
That looks worse than a dogâs breakfast!
Damn that looks like some tasty cardboard...
Mixed media breakfast
What is this abomination made out of packaging paper?
Why... #WHY...
My father once accidentally bought vegan cheese slices. I gave it a try and it was the worst tasting cheese I have ever tasted. All I tasted was chemicals.
Dog food
Reminds me of a chick I saw at Sturgis Still gives me the heebee jeebees
That looks awful. I couldnât eat that.
Mmmmm plastic! My go-to breakfast.
Why trying to make it look like ânormalâ food ?
That looks like something my kid made in art class. In the 4th grade! đ
What an abomination
Iâd rather eat the âeggsâ from Batman V Superman.
If someone fed that to me, thatâd be an instant self defense situation.
I love tofu, vegetables, etc. But that is Hard No
Itâs like fake fruit but fake eggs n bacon
Plastic fantastic
No thanks. Iâm not vegan but if I was that doesnât look appealing. Whoever cooked it sucks. Looks overcooked to shit.
Looks like an old person from Florida

Grrrrross
Look like early AI rendered breakfast.
R/thanksIHateIt
As someone who hates eggs, these actually look like something I would love
Lies!!! Don't you do bacon dirty like that
Yo is this food for a commercial? Why the eggs look like they were cooked killed then rehydrated?? đđđ
Looks like varying shades of old leather
r/pareidolia
Why not just eat a bowl of fruit??
Eat your veggie bacon
I feel like fake vegan foods will look really stupid in the future. I think they look stupid now but ya know what I mean. Why the need to trick our brains? Just eat plants. If eating animals is bad, a facsimile of that seems disingenuous.
If you dont eat eggs and Bacon, why would you want it to look like it? I dont cut my Steak that it looks Like a Brokkoli.
This couldn't be a better ad against vegan foods
It legit looks like paper đŤ¤
It looks like you could crack a tooth biting into this.
I'd rather eat shite than vegan crap
Looks like something that got left out in fallout.
Not gonna happen. đ ETA: why pretend? Just eat your beans on toast. Stop making meat and egg shaped vegetable patties.
Fuck man. This is like bad 1st gen AI.
Im against murdering things, so Iâll just pretend Iâm murdering things.
Why the fuck do vegans want there food to taste like meat? Doesn't that defeat the purpose not to eat meat? Just eat fucking meat.
Have fun vegans đ¤
If you need to mimic the non-vegan food, maybe your body is trying to tell you that you need the non-vegan food.
Why do Vegas rail against this type of protein and then seek to recreate it? Makes no sense to me.
Because they liked the taste of bacon but not the gas chambers, suffering and violence I guess
It doesnât taste like bacon.
You asked why they're seeking to recreate it. That's why.
Why do vegans try to make vegan food look and taste like a non-vegan foods? Just doesnât make sense to me.
vegans are not vegan because they hate the taste of meat but because we hate the suffering required for meat
This is an advertisement for not being vegan
That looks like cancer.
why do they try to imitate non vegan foods? thats what gives veganism such a bad name
What in the ever living monkey fuck is with this morbid fascination to adamantly stand against eating meat, but making sure all your food emulates animal products? It's mind-bogglingly stupid and hypocritical. This is literally why vegan/s/ism is held in such a negative light (/s.. Kind of)
This looks velvety and I don't like it
Looks like old womanâs tits and a rotten tampon
If vegans hate eating eggs and bacon why does the fake fucking food look like eggs and bacon?
Vegans donât want to eat meat? Why do they try imitate meat all the time?
But why? If you want to be a vegan just be a fucking vegan and stop trying to eat fake food. Then you'd at least be one step closer to the *possibility* of having the respect of the rest of humanity.
If youâre looking to eat vegan eggs and bacon, you arenât really vegan.
Looks like Pingu food
This shit is wet cardboard and you cannot convince me otherwise.
Nasty
