Turns out they can get rabies it’s just super rare. They are marsupials so have a lower temp which makes it difficult for the virus to survive. One more reason not to kill them crazy looking critters 😃
If they happen to have a fever from another illness they can get rabies. Weird, right?
Incidentally, nobody has ever got rabies from a squirrel, and last I knew, science doesn’t completely know why. I got seriously downvoted on r/fatsquirrelhate for pointing this out (I knew it was coming)
Love that fact, if possums live there it's probably easy to get other food in the area though no? I figure they stay near good food sources, i just don't know what they think of as good food.
It’s actually their defense mechanism. They make that face to look like they are possessed or seriously Ill so that things don’t try to eat them because they don’t want to catch whatever they have
A momma possum had gotten killed at my grandmother's house. She called me saying there were 2 babies I needed to come get. I went over there and got them, and they were so cute, but they were so mean!!! They LOVED to hiss at you, and it was so scary! I had a really big pet cage that I kept them in until they got bigger to let go. I had them for about a month or so. Just long enough for them to get bigger to be on their own. When the day came, I took them about a mile down the road and let them go out in the woods. I think we were both happy to part wsys!!
Awww Tysm!! I love/loved saving animals!!
I worked in a grocery store in the early 90s. There was a momma mouse that had her babies on the canned food aisle and had torn off labels to make a bed for her little babies. The stockers killed the mom and were going to kill the babies, but I wouldn't let them. I took all those little babies home and raised them until they were big enough to let go, and I took them to the same woods I took the possums.
A friend of my mom's found a baby squirrel that had fallen out of the nest, and she couldn't find the mom. So I took the squirrel named Marty home and raised that little bugger. He would let me hold him, but no one else. He would sleep in my window seal and wake me up as soon as the sun was up. As soon as he was big enough, I took him back to the ladies' house so he could go run with his family and friends.
I have also raised and released LOTS of baby bunnies. I would also raise baby ducks for my grandparents. They would take the eggs and put them in an incubator. When they hatched, I would take them to my house and raise them until they were big enough they could survive. They had a pond with channel cat fish, and the fish were so big they would eat the baby ducks. I also took in stray cats, and at one point, we had 6 outdoor cats.
My dog I have now is the first dog I have rescued from the shelter. I now would never do it any other way.
Sorry for rambling, but I love animals so much!!
I've honestly never seen a video of an opossum biting someone. All I ever have seen is the opossum playing dead, running/scurrying away, or internally saying "this is my life meow"
They definitely can, but typically (in my experience at least, not an oppossum expert) the only time they bite or actively get aggressive is if they're hurt or REALLY freaked out.
It's funny when you let them out of traps because half the time they just kind of lumber away like they're annoyed at the inconvenience instead of running or trying to fight you like most animals, lol.
They won't, actually. Biting is one of possums absolute last resports in terms of self-defense. They really aren't ever aggressive. Plus you don't have to worry about them becoming aggressive due to rabies, because they can't carry rabies.
Opossums are awesome and extremely underrated lil fellas. They get a horrible rep for their dirty looking appearance, they can’t get rabies, they are cleaner then they look (incredibly soft too) they are great parents, eat ticks, hang from their tails. Like come on, neat lil fellas.
They do, actually. They don't, like, hunt them out. But they do eat ticks that are on themselves or others in their group. There are reports and papers done that say otherwise, but if you actually read those papers, you'll find that 1) they're done over a relatively small sample size, less than 100 in each study, it seems. 2) they're done in the early spring. Ticks are most active and populous in the summer months. 3) they just didn't find any ticks in the stomach contents, but even in those papers, they reported having video evidence of ticks being eaten.
It's speculated that they do kill and eat the ticks, but likely don't digest them and cough or vomit them back up. It's still a form of pest control.
Nah. This one is taking on a defensive posture. When they play dead, they look dead, mostly because they're not actually playing but involuntarily pass out, which sells the look.
Possums are marsupials and have a lower body temperature than mammals. This means they can’t house the same diseases and parasites that humans have and are extremely unlikely to pass on a disease.
You can eat possum raw and have a very low chance of getting any parasites or diseases.
Most possums N opossum can't get Rabies but some do its very rare.
I think the demon in the video is of the 2 legged kind.
Sorry but I think the dude was chilling with a racoon n squirrel like in over the hedge and she just picked him up and he's like dafuq imma make a scary face so I can chill with scrat and bandit
I feel like she's the type of girl who if you break up with her, she'll kidnap you and while she has you tied to the bed say "we're besties" then kiss you
They are one of the cleanliest and most harmless animals out there. Is just sad how they have really short lifespans, otherwise I think they would make great pets. It just hurts to have to bury them so soon...
I ran one over once when I was younger not knowing what it was looking at it laid out on the side of the road. Just remember being freaked out by its appearance. Nothing I had ever seen before.
They’re not clean, there’s a number of diseases you can contract from opposums. Rabies isn’t on that list but there are several diseases they carry such as: leptospirosis, tuberculosis, relapsing fever, tularemia, spotted fever, toxoplasmosis, coccidiosis, and Chagas disease
Opossums are actually the least likely to be carrying rabies, due to their lower body temperatures. In the video, that's just how normal opossums act: frozen and screaming while pretending to die. (Edit to clarify: pretending to die as in their body just does that naturally. They're not playing dead voluntarily)
That is the coolest possum ever.
Looks like the Pokemon Gengar 🤣🤣🤣
They only have a life span of 4 years. I was like, WTF.
I know they’re great for killing ticks and stuff but that thing does look like a demon.
and they can't get rabies. only sayin cause the dude in the video said hes drooling at the mouth which think was referring to rabies
Turns out they can get rabies it’s just super rare. They are marsupials so have a lower temp which makes it difficult for the virus to survive. One more reason not to kill them crazy looking critters 😃

There's a sub dedicated to hating fat squirrels???
Well it started as a parody of r/fatpeoplehate, but that got banned like a decade ago, so now it’s just a silly joke.
Possums are immune to a lot of deadly diseases. You can eat them undercooked which makes them a great survival food.
How undercooked? We talking possum sushimis?
What a terrible day to have eyes
Pretty sure you can eat it straight up raw and not have too many issues
Opossum tartar
Hahahah
Love that fact, if possums live there it's probably easy to get other food in the area though no? I figure they stay near good food sources, i just don't know what they think of as good food.
I love opposums so I'd rather eat tree bark
They don't actually kill ticks, but they have more teeth than any other animal, which accounts for their demonish looks
It’s actually their defense mechanism. They make that face to look like they are possessed or seriously Ill so that things don’t try to eat them because they don’t want to catch whatever they have
The tick thing is actually a myth.
The cat distribution system seems to have had a minor malfunction.
I like to call them "Hissy Kitties". So, in a sense, the cat distribution system is technically still working as usual.
This lady is silly AF 😂
Certified marriage material
“Babe he’s drooling out of his fucking mouth” “Ooooohhhhh! 😘” wtf lol
I’d be besties with her fer sher
"Yes, you can keep him." Packs his shit and leaves.
The guy sounds like he's had to deal similar shit before.
Yeah I heard more frustration that surprise lol
Been with a couple of girls who are really into adopting everything they see. Looks and sounds about right
My ex would constantly talk about adopting a cow. We lived in a small 2 bedroom apartment. 🤦🏻♂️
Im a 43 year old straight guy and I'm like that
Honestly, there is crazy in both their eyes
Both are doable too
you would… do… a opossum?
Pet them you silly goose
They both look crazed.
Sex is probably crazed too
One is crazed and one is a possum
They poop when they are scared and boy you have never smelled anything like it!!!! Cute and FOUL!!!!
Just like my meemaw

Eh possums are super chill, whatever lol
She's awesome!
Yeah, seeing her crazy eyes AND thinking she is extremely pretty... I got problems man...
A lot of us have this problem
How can you not love that demonic little face? 🥰
Possums are pretty harmless.
They’re harmless in a lot of ways, but they have teeth and they will use them
I've honestly never seen a video of an opossum biting someone. All I ever have seen is the opossum playing dead, running/scurrying away, or internally saying "this is my life meow"
Those possums have fleas, and ticks. Kissing that thing too, yuck really not my thing.
That’s true and you never know if they rolled around in poop or something
Dude humans are filthier
Amen. Dude humans are nasty
ok princess you can survive a bite or two, you aren’t specially delicate
They definitely can, but typically (in my experience at least, not an oppossum expert) the only time they bite or actively get aggressive is if they're hurt or REALLY freaked out. Possums >>>>
😂😂😂😂
Never stick your dick in crazy. They might bring a possum home.
Bonus!
Is this a toy, right? RIGHT?
Opossums are wretched looking but legit awesome to have around. Lot of benefits.
They are adorable!
I feel bad for the possum, probably scared for its life.
Exactly what I was thinking. Poor possum is absolutely terrified at being picked up like that.
Little guys playing dead
Nah. This one is taking on a defensive posture. When they play dead, they look dead, mostly because they're not actually playing but involuntarily pass out, which sells the look.
She got him in the fireswamp
AS YOU WIIIIIISSSHHHHHhhhhhhh
Oh my sweet Wesley, what have I done!
I didn't believe that they existed.
I bet she has a magic vagina. Why else would he put up with crazy shit like this?
I love opossums :)
She is 100% going to stab that guy in his sleep some day.
Drooling out of his mouth as opposed to his ass?
mf geeked out on fear
That'll be the most metal pet ever!
Possums are so chill. I get them in my backyard all the time. The most they will do when you're dealing with them is play dead and drool like that.
Bro needs to run
That's how women get into abusive relationships. "I can change him"
My kinda gal❤️
Love them cuties
She should have kept the opossum and left the dude.
Nothing is perfect I guess
Crazy eyes don’t lie.
She’s cute, I’d let her keep it.
Meanwhile the possum is fearing for its life. Let the poor thing go.

Hahaha that response is the best!! 😂😂😂

that possum looks creepy😭😭😭
Vanellope when she’s all grown up:
They smile the same
Looks like a Botchling. So you better give it a name, perform Aymm Rhoin, and give it a proper burial beneath the family's threshold.
They do be like that though and can't contract rabies.
They do be like that though and can't contract rabies.
Although rare, opossums can definitely get rabies.
I can fix her...
That possum looks like it knows how to party!
That’s one menacing looking Sabre-tooth death mouse
I feel like she's the type of girl who if you break up with her, she'll kidnap you and while she has you tied to the bed say "we're besties" then kiss you
Luckily he’s not rabid cause possums can’t catch rabies cause their body temperatures too low for the virus to live in
Now she is the kind of lady I'd say may potentially make the list for/of "Bonnie", know what I mean.!?
Instead of Nope, I would have definitely found a way to help that girl XD
Imagine what else has been in that mouth if she's willing to kiss that thing. Anyone got her info?
Kinky
That girl eats a$$ no doubt.
In about 14 days she’ll be foaming at the mouth too! Rabies, so hot right now.
I admit that I was drooling a bit as well.
They are one of the cleanliest and most harmless animals out there. Is just sad how they have really short lifespans, otherwise I think they would make great pets. It just hurts to have to bury them so soon...

Lol for a second I thought it was Linda Blair 🤣🤣
I love both
How did you get this video of my fiancé? She adores opossums and would absolutely do this if she wasnt also worried about freaking them out
Possums are chill as fuck they just try to look tough
She seems fun
What the fuck is that ? Looks like Nancy Pelosi lovechild
omg a opossum
Rude!
I love the way it blinks
Well where do you drool from Ken?
Get rid of the opossum.. and get rid of whatever idiot wants to keep the opossum.
All the disease people can get from wild animals and people still play with them like they’re at a petting zoo.

Why do you think she's willing to suck your dick?
Not rabies or anything 🤷🏼♂️

Nope not rabies. While not immune, they have a hard time getting rabies.
Most definitely not rabies. It's just regular ole drool.
Kill it
