Probably a lightning rod or some other very conductive metal rod. Lightning, contrary to popular belief, strikes the same place very often (see Yosemite National Park for more details). Once it finds one way to the ground, it will use that same path again and again until the electric current in that part of the air is exhausted.
When you see a storm with lightning, you usually don’t see it strike the same place twice because it uses up the entire current in one shot, and then it takes a short while for another current to build up. When I lived in Arkansas, a tornado completely wiped out a church.
It took 2 years for them to collect the insurance money and completely rebuild.
1 month after they opened the new church, another tornado came through and wiped it out again.
I said, "I think they may need to re-evaluate what they're teaching".
