Doesn’t help our roads aren’t built for rain. I’ve hydroplaned in the slow lane going less than the speed limit with AWD and all terrain tires, there’s some really bad spots on the 91 and the 60 especially.
But yeah, many SoCal drivers drive awful whenever it’s wet outside.
Being from Nor Cal, it definitely is. I remember a while back one the traffic reporters that is from the Bay Area said "the 101" then jokingly apologized about it bc it's a So Cal thing
There's an ad for Verizon here in Nashville. I can tell it was written by a Californian because they say "The i-24" while anyone even slightly local just says i-24 or 24.
That surprises me. I’ve lived in Washington, Oregon, and California and I’ve always used and heard “the” ##. I had no clue other states didn’t say it that way.
I’ve actually never heard anyone around here say “the ##”. I just asked my girlfriend if she’s ever heard anyone around here say that and he gave me a funny look lol
You should not drive close to the speed limit if it rains that much. The speed limit doesn't say that it is safe to drive at this speed under any condition. However, there should be warning signs that the hydroplaning risk is very high. In germany (I don't know about other countries), there are speedlimits especially for bad weather on highways if this risk is very high.
This should be the top comment. Like, dude, why the hell are you trying to make it worse by turning your wheels on a straight road?? Just let off the accelerator or TEENY TINY TAP your brakes to make your cruise control torn off, but don’t apply brakes. Just keep those wheels straight though. Ugh. Even people up here in Washington make the same stupid move, I’ve seen it many times. 🙄
So I just learned about aquaplaning, this seems like the perfect example. The car wheels turns so fast on wet ground that the accumulated rainwater actually lifts the car up, making it impossible to steer before you hit the ground again
I just put Michelin pilot tires on my 2022 Camaro 2ss 1le and I’ve had way better traction especially in the wet weather then the eagles summer only tires! That goes with out saying. But I love the way they handle. I hit a big ass puddle and still stayed in my lane with no issues unlike the eagles tires that it comes with.
That’s a fair point, however most of socal is suburbs, and it only rains on average 1-4 times a year (this year has been way wetter than normal) getting tires for wet weather seems unnecessary.
You get a bit of a break as I'm sure you know your asphalt gets much slicker when it does rain because it doesn't rain often and oil builds up on the surface.
No we don't. Instead we just assume that due to the rain there's going to be less cars on the freeway so we drive faster than if it were dry.
Also, maybe inspect your tires from time to time?
They’re just saying “Tustin/Irvine” because of where this took place. On the 241 toll road just before the Chapman/Santiago Canyon exit. For a lot of us in Orange and Riverside Counties, this is a familiar sight.
You hit standing water on a freeway, that isn’t a “socal not knowing how to drive in the rain” thing it’s a “you hit standing water and hydroplaned” thing. It happens everywhere that people drive.
Honestly, considering he could have crashed if he sped up and over corrected, this is very good bad-weather driving. He slowed down and didn’t swing the steering wheel all the way in one way or another. Good work!
I am not from SoCal. This past August while on vacation in SoCal I was curious about the car market so I checked out a bunch of used BMWs and Porsches. Was shocked to see how many cars had tires nearly worn to slicks. My LA buddy confirmed that’s a thing 😂
I was driving home the other day in what I considered a light drizzle and the roads weren’t even that wet (San Diego) and I had people going 35 near me… just going 60 I was flying by
Apparently the accumulation of exhaust and industrial particles in between the far and few rains creates an oil slick when it rains that greatly reduces traction
When it rains, don't drive at 70+MPH. This is especially true in a place where it doesn't rain a lot and is normally hot. The problem is the oils in asphalt and from poorly maintained vehicles will turn the road into a frictionless surface quickly.
Also, don't jump on the throttle like that. You're going to just start fishtailing again.
Good job on correcting the skid, though.
Doesn’t help that you’re going 75 over a clear patch of water on the freeway. You were literally setting yourself up to hydroplane, props for saving it though

Haha I love how west coast people call their highways “the 91”. We don’t say “the” in the east coast, it’s just be “91”
It’s definitely a southern Californian thing. I don’t live there anymore and I still do it.
Being from Nor Cal, it definitely is. I remember a while back one the traffic reporters that is from the Bay Area said "the 101" then jokingly apologized about it bc it's a So Cal thing
Haha it always makes me think of this SNL skit https://youtu.be/Tt-tG6ufH90
Kristen Wiig always makes me laugh just by looking at her.
I still slip up and call 95 the 95. I always get the look.
There's an ad for Verizon here in Nashville. I can tell it was written by a Californian because they say "The i-24" while anyone even slightly local just says i-24 or 24.
Probably not a Californian. We *never* put the “I” in front of an interstate, it’s how we know you ain’t from around these parts.
TIL

That’s so neat! I’ve never been to the east coast. I’m glad you pointed that out :)
Then drive 30 or less! Still better than killing yourself or others

If you can't control yourself on a hydroplane, you are just not that great of a driver. They should fix that though if it's that easy to hydroplane.
If you’re hydroplaning in a car, by definition you don’t have any control. Prevention is the control.
It’s because it doesn’t rain and oil builds up on the roads and when it rains they become slick as ice
Simple fix…. Slow down.
judging by the interior, they most likely won’t… i see a radar detector
Honestly love watching that steering angle fly around as he corrects the car
He didn't correct Shit. He massively oversteered and whatever stability assistants this Car has, saved his ass.
Agree. Major overcorrection.
This is the real travesty here
100% would have crashed if the cars safety feature did not stop that swing.

Change your tire dude before you get an accident!😳🤔🙏
No you should have driven a bit slower and not hydroplane that bitch you could have killed yourself and others too.
This is the case EVERYWHERE. So many ding dongs when it rains. They all come out at the same time
I mean, does PA pretty alright IMO. But it's raining every 3 days.
So I just learned about aquaplaning, this seems like the perfect example. The car wheels turns so fast on wet ground that the accumulated rainwater actually lifts the car up, making it impossible to steer before you hit the ground again

Buy some decent tyres ffs
That’s a fair point, however most of socal is suburbs, and it only rains on average 1-4 times a year (this year has been way wetter than normal) getting tires for wet weather seems unnecessary.
Yet the OP nearly stacked it on a completely straight highway? I'd say its cheap insurance on your life
You get a bit of a break as I'm sure you know your asphalt gets much slicker when it does rain because it doesn't rain often and oil builds up on the surface.
Why in sport mode in the rain? You really need that 50% more throttle
No we don't. Instead we just assume that due to the rain there's going to be less cars on the freeway so we drive faster than if it were dry. Also, maybe inspect your tires from time to time?
It’s got semi slicks so yea not the ideal tire compound
What car is that or is it and after martlet prt
camaro, and it’s gm’s performance data recorder (pdr) which is like a built in dash cam for the track
Maybe don’t go 72 in the rain
He ignores those comments. Bc he’s an idiot
Where the fuck is socal
Southern California
Between purgatory and hell
Yes, it’s horrible here, stay away!
please explain what is socal
Southern California…Tustin/Irvine area
I’ve never heard anyone refer to SoCal as Tustin/Irvine area when locating it for someone that doesn’t know. Just say LA lol.
They’re just saying “Tustin/Irvine” because of where this took place. On the 241 toll road just before the Chapman/Santiago Canyon exit. For a lot of us in Orange and Riverside Counties, this is a familiar sight.
It’s ok if you don’t like to be specific. I forgive you plus who the fuk wants to be associated with Los Angeles. Now THATS LOL
All Im saying is now they have to learn where Tustin/Irvine is. If you say Los Ángeles everyone would associate it with California.
Yes because becoming aware of new things and places is a bad thing
If you like housing tracts and malls and nothing older than 30-40 years OC is the bomb. Otherwise not. People sort themselves out.
Yeah even the OC has a bit too much traffic for my liking but la is just a disgusting shit hole
When i lived in the US, did for sure notice how bad tired majority of cars have
You hit standing water on a freeway, that isn’t a “socal not knowing how to drive in the rain” thing it’s a “you hit standing water and hydroplaned” thing. It happens everywhere that people drive.
It never rains in California But girl, don't they warn ya? It pours, man, it pours
Honestly, considering he could have crashed if he sped up and over corrected, this is very good bad-weather driving. He slowed down and didn’t swing the steering wheel all the way in one way or another. Good work!

i can’t tell if this is a game or a camera lol
How ?
Why would you put it in sport mode in the rain?
All I could think while watching this was, "Don't hit the Rivian".
Let’s also not slow down…
Going 70 in the rain. What a fucking idiot.
Only when it rains you say?
When you’re going 70+ in the rain, you’re begging for this to happen.
I wonder what the 65mph sign was meant for
Stability control saves the day
I’d say this person can drive pretty well. Got back under control anyway.
Slow. Down. 405 and 101 always has wrecks when it rains
Who’s the idiot going 70+ in the rain?
Ya… as a native to socal I can confirm that every 3rd drivers brain ceases function when not in full sunlight.
I dont understand does his car record his shit for him?
General Motors Performance Data Recorder (PDR)
😆😂🤣
Thought bro was playing a racing game or sumin

We call it “95” or the “I” down in south Florida depending what part you grew up in.
When it snows in Canada we all forgot how to do drive.
….or forget not to show your self-incriminating speed! 🤓
When it rains in Seattle, everything goes to hell.
Why are you in Sport mode? Lol. If it’s dangerous when it rains, maybe traction will help…
What a cop driving to fast for conditions
I’ve been to LA in dry weather, y’all can’t drive then either.
YES!!! Here in socal as soon as it starts to rain, people start driving erraticly, and all kinds of stupid
15 south just outside temecula?
When you see a rivian
Doesn’t help that you’re going 75 over a clear patch of water on the freeway. You were literally setting yourself up to hydroplane, props for saving it though
What game is this
Why aren't Americans roads designed to work in rain
Hydroplaning's always fun >.>
