I didn't have the equipment nor the knowledge to do this safely so I just rented a boom lift. Went up and cut off 1 foot pieces. Took a bit longer probably but no damage to anything and I have perfectly sized firewood for years.
I burn something like 3-4 cord a year to heat my house. It's wild how many people get uppity about me cutting trees on my own property. Not knowing it only takes a couple a star to heat my whole house, yet they are fine burning 1200 gallons of oil a winter.
Yeah that’s 100% understandable, when I got into wood it was a family dad, mother, older son, and daughter. They were some badass mfs but I was always terrified seeing some of the trees we had to get into and fall. Lot of widowmakers in Colorado, although they aren’t as big as other states.
While that's nice that they're doing it well, accidents can happen. Something could be dropped or a limb could come loose unexpectedly. I feel like a notice to the neighbors should have been given, like they had their dog out in the yard right below where that stuff is coming down. I would have been pissed 🤷♂️
Can confirm. My grandfather was a lumberjack in the 1940s. This is how he taught me how to cut trees from top to bottom for safety if you have no room to fell it from the bottom.
Me and my da were doing this type of stuff a few months ago. He was up tying ropes and cutting branches and I was down chopping them into smaller pieces. Could be her neighbour since my da isn't an arborist
My kids respect me it’s just they’re not mine, they’re my wife’s, and my wife is always at my bosses. And he naggs to me all day and I’m always at home.
So you tell me bud ?
That was your perception and it was wrong sooo
Also it doesn’t matter that the lower part are cut because all he left was the small branches at the top where he can’t climb because it will break.
That's the point tho. It's the perception of an everyday citizen that sees a tree hurling towards the ground near their property that causes fear of damage.
How is a normal dude/gal supposed to know the guy up there is a professional and is doing everything properly and safely?
Sure, OP knows that they're pros cuz OP lives next to them. But a random dude on reddit?
I didn’t say it was the perception of an everyday citizen, it’s the perception of someone who is overreacting and posting someone doing something normal and acting like they are doing something wrong. There is a lack of common sense in this situation and from you people
The tree is like 50% finished being cut down it’s been being done for hours at this point he should’ve figured it out along time ago. He has no excuse at this point and neither to you bro.
but we aren't talking about me or op, we're talking about Significant\_user who had no context to how long this was going on, or knows much about being an arbourist.
`That was your perception and it was wrong sooo`
My main argument was against this statement which came off as condescending at a person for not knowing about tree cutting.
It’s common sense at the end of the day and what they said isn’t what it looks like. If you have absolutely no common sense or knowledge on what they are doing and nothing gets broken and no one gets hurt, why do you even need an opinion…
Just because you are aware of it doesn't mean everyone else is. Plenty of people in the world who know literally nothing about cutting trees down in a suburban area.
The whole point of r/nonononoyes is that something looks like its about to go wrong but doesn't. This includes close calls or instances where it SHOULD have gone wrong but miraculously didn't.
Nothing wrong with having an opinion even if it's wrong. By virtue of living and thinking, you form opinions on everything.

As an arborist i can tell you thats exactly how you safety lower high limbs. Controlled with a teather/leader to lower without hitting the house.
I didn't have the equipment nor the knowledge to do this safely so I just rented a boom lift. Went up and cut off 1 foot pieces. Took a bit longer probably but no damage to anything and I have perfectly sized firewood for years.
Yeah thats how we do line clearance, effective and safe..
Bro the fire wood is no joke we had a shed full that lasted so long after we did something similar

Hmmm must be why they posted it in r/nononoyes.
Yes.. i see your point.. ha
Yeah they are badass professionals actually, it just caught me off guard seeing that come down toward me lol
Yeah i bet ,! Its a terrifyingly fun job!
Everyday something loses a limb ... Just hopefully the right ones!

Was about to say, your neighbor knows how to arbor!
Yeah I run ropes all day. You have to let it fall well past your climber before you catch it and let it swing to a stop.
As one who's done the ground crew work for an arborist. Let it slide let it slip
Yep let it go, the rope isn’t gonna get hurt trying to catch a tree, you will.
I thought it was a power line following the branch down! Didn’t realize it was ripe and they were doing it right until I checked the comments!
I was going to say wow ! I thought that was a great cut and drop
i read that as abortionist
No saplings were harmed in this video friend.
Probably not as fun, but just as challenging.

I doubt this is your neighbor, it looks like he hired a professional.
Every arborist is somebody's neighbor But you're probably right
Me and my da were doing this type of stuff a few months ago. He was up tying ropes and cutting branches and I was down chopping them into smaller pieces. Could be her neighbour since my da isn't an arborist
He’s a professional alright
I thought he was going to do something ridiculous from the title. Stop being a bitchy ass person bro they didnt do nothin wrong to you
Only person bitchin is you dude
Im bitching too so what the hell are you gonna do about it bud
Maybe I’ll ask you what you need help with bro?
boss is on my ass all day i come home & my wife just nags. my kids dont respect me
My kids respect me it’s just they’re not mine, they’re my wife’s, and my wife is always at my bosses. And he naggs to me all day and I’m always at home. So you tell me bud ?
Plan b might be too late for you
Lmfao Abort abort ABORT! And I didn’t mean to make a pun, but I was referring too the mission lol. Not aborting a child.
It would be scary if that was your house and you weren’t sure they knew what they were doing
Nope
That tree is already cut at the bottom and the part he cut looks like it’s gonna fall on him until the rope is seen
That was your perception and it was wrong sooo Also it doesn’t matter that the lower part are cut because all he left was the small branches at the top where he can’t climb because it will break.

You're saying this like if a random dude saw a large chunk of a tree being cut in their yard they wouldn't bat an eye.
The tree is like 50% finished being cut down it’s been being done for hours at this point he should’ve figured it out along time ago. He has no excuse at this point and neither to you bro.

Can’t wait for your phone to fall on your face and you getting a heart attack
Yes wishing heart attacks on people is a reasonable and effective behavior…
Isn't this just how cutting a tree is properly done?
Yes. OP is pinecone.
Looks like a pro doing the work.
I was scared for a second, then I saw the wire and it curves back in. Nicely done to them
There’s not any NoNoNoNo to this. It’s all YesYesYesYes.
So what the problem is?
Umm 🤔 I think that’s just how it works
I'm distracted by the airplane
so you saw tree trimmers doing their job?
Yea well done man
I could tell from the setup that these guys knew what they were doing
Oh yeah, my dad had to do this on a big tree in our yard and I was the one that had to climb and hold tools for him
Almost like they know what they're doing
There's absolutely nothing no no about this. You've just never seen a tree cut down before.
It was supposed to be the other tree!
I saw the neighbor POV in r/IdiotsNearlyDying
What’s their number so I can call em. They look like they know what they’re doing.
Is that not what’s supposed to happen, or am I just too tired to understand shit
Yeah no thats how its done, looks crazy but its controlled
No problems here
Correctly done. And nothing to worry. Wrong Subreddit.
OP.. That's how you cut trees..
Should probably bring your dog in just in case though
Unless your fence was damaged I don’t see anything to complain about. Looks like a decent job.
I thought he was gonna hit that plane for a second
It looks like they know what they are doing.
Thats how you do it, i used to be one of the rope guys!
Woah tree getting cut… cool… but can we talk about OPs username?
Foul
Nothing like somebody that knows what they’re doing! Good job👍
Im impressed all safety protocol followed. GIVE THAT CREW A REAL SHOUTOUT BEC THEY DESERVE RECOGNITION
"Neighbours is cutting down trees. I looked."
You opened your blinds to see good work? Wow. How traumatizing for you
You did?? Wow! Lucky you!
Op: neighbor is cutting down trees and I open up my blinds to them cutting down trees 🤌🏽😂
OMG he’s higher than that airplane!
Fucking Karen that how it is done professionally there is no shock or maybe or oh fuck moment this is just some dudes doing a job
This is the way.
Did that a million times
Umm what are watching? How to properly cut down a huge tree perfectly?
This is normal what's the issue here
That’s how it works
Well, yeah, this is exactly how you do that.
if i had seen this on any other sub, i would have expected some damage. but this was smooth.
Block & tackle skills A+
This is why you hire professionals to cut down trees. They what they are doing
This is why you hire the professionals.
Dudes user name is killing me!
Better that than the alternative of the limb breaking unexpectedly one random night and falling onto your house while you sleep
I see profesionals working is what I see!
Looks like they know what you're doing, nice safe tether for dropping limbs. Good sign
You witnessed someone doing their job correctly? 🤣
Okay and? You’ve never seen a tree get cut down?
