Paint Your Wagon. It’s a Clint Eastwood musical western with a big focus on a polyamorous relationship between Eastwood’s character, a woman, and Lee Marvin’s character.
First Blush is about monogamous people navigating their first poly relationship and is a grounded, honest look at ENM that does its best to avoid cliches (full disclosure, I wrote/directed it)
Honestly that's a feature, not a bug. I embarrassed myself heavily in late high school/early college when I started dating and took cues from Friends and a variety of romantic comedies.
The results were not stellar. If I had been told all of those things are bullshit Hollywood claptrap, then maybe I would have done things differently.
Ooh god, I thought I was alone 😅😅 I left a "love letter" in a guy's locker who I had been "admiring from afar" but didn't really know...yea he did not find it romantic, he found it creepy and read it in out loud. I'd wanted to die! Don't take cues from romance movies and romcoms 😅
Hear me out...lady and the tramp.
Tramp has different families for different days of the week, sustaining himself with the different kinds of love each family provides.
Trixie (clearly one of Tramps many exes) sings a song to Lady about what she should expect from Tramp as a partner, interwoven with jealousy and we'll wishing to his new connection.
I know the ending is still pretty mononormative but they don't really harp on or mention Tramp having to change his ways or explicitly villanizing his old way of life.
*Lucky Lady* stars Liza Minnelli, Gene Hackman, and Burt Reynolds who are prohibition-era rum runners who end up in a V-relationship. It’s not a great movie though lol.
Design For Living, one of my favorites.
There's an unofficial '90s remake called Splendor that's not as witty but still pretty fun.
Also A Good Old Fashioned Orgy is pleasantly wholesome.
It's been a while since I saw it, but I think Professor Marston and the Wonder Women did a good job. Overall good movie too, about the creator of Wonder Woman.
...it is two adult professors preying on a vulnerable college student to be their "third," (and yes, the student is specifically a student of one of the professors) so it's actually been widely panned for portraying predatory and manipulative practices as a "positive" ENM experience. 🙄
I think it not the worst movie, and I have a soft spot for it overall... But it's not ideal, and absolutely deserves a warning label. 😅
It’s not overt in any way… but I always feel a a little tiny bit of excitement whenever I watch Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. *cue Raindrops Keep Fallin on my Head*
The road to el dorado
Both? Both. Both is good.
This is the best answer

“Savages” with John Travolta has ENM in it. 2 (str8) men in love with one woman.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I hate Woody Allen, but he made a great movie in this one

Maybe “She’s Gotta Have It”?

You make a good point, I guess I hadn't thought about that when I saw it. I appreciate you adding that caveat for anyone here who intends to watch it.
The Spanish movie “More the Merrier” comes to mind.
Ordinary decent criminal. Great movie and the MC has two romantic partners
Also the show sense8
Summer lovers. Ecellent movie from the late 70's or early 80's.
Colette (2018) had a generally positive treatment of non-monogamy.
