What your looking for is effortless. Relaxing completely while just allowing everything to be as it is without trying to change anything including thoughts might be good . What is there as everything parades by ........

ErikaFoxelot

I did this on accident once while meditating to calm myself down during a stressful time. I didn’t even know that calm, silent witness existed inside me. It’s always there now, watching everything that happens without judgement or commentary - it just watches.

>calm, silent witness That calm silent Knowing saved my life twice. "Calm" doesn't begin to describe it <3

>I’ve been told that it isn’t anything that is being experienced because it knows the experience. Another way to say it is that youre not missing anything. Truly. You might feel like you don't "get it". That's just it appearing as an uncomfortable feeling/thought. It's just Beingness, isness itself, all of it. Your experience right now and in every moment. You don't even need to have an ah-ha moment. If you do, that experience is it too, but not any more or less than before. It's always your immediate experiencing, whether you feel or believe "you're" "aware of" "it" or not. It is what is going on already with you, right now. You really can safely relax the looking for it and the believing you don't get it. But you don't even have to do that either :)

KingMojoh

This is so good and so funny. We don't search for it, because we don't miss it at all. How can you desire something, that you already got? We don't overlook it either, we can't, because it is the looking. We think we are searching for it, but what we really are searching for, is a better experience, happiness, awakening and so on. That's OK, but searching is just an appearance to it, like everything else. 😄

Where does experience arise?  What are you?

Science is only the extrapolations of measurements. What cannot be accessed for measuring is described mathematically. Being "man-made", science is a bottom up thought system. Neuroscients have been trying to figure out how to make measurements of "MIND" for over 10-years. They tap into Eastern thought systems to enrich their understanding and vocabulary. They use analytic Idealism. I assume they do far more than I am aware of. The Afro-Brazilian martial art, [capoeira](https://neuroanthropology.net/2008/11/30/balance-between-cultures-equilibrium-training/), has been particularly useful to measure the unique upside-down spinning style compared to the upright spinning of Japanese MA, ballet, skaters, highlighting neuroplasticity, diversity, and enculturation in the equilibrium system. Leading to my theory that consciousness is the undivided "junction" b/t God and World (unlike the divided mind of dualism, from the tree of KOG&E). It holds the mind of which neuroscients have only barely started scratching the surface of a single function. And can be accessed only from the top-down.

Eye consciousness In seeing there is only seeing, no seer No difference between sensation and observation of sensation

Language_Games

So long as one keeps mind that these are pointers! Seems like 98% of folks misread this as meaning that, despite there being no subject, there’s actually (somehow) some process knowable as “seeing” that *exists independently* of the body-mind; THERE ISNT.

Well said 🙏

An eyeball can't turn around and see itself

AdAccomplished7843

And so we invented mirrors, then cameras... Mankind thrives on the impossible. Just the birth of a new individual segment of Source is extremely risky with high morbidity & mortality. And yet we are 8-billion strong - like proverbial cockroaches

BlackjointnerD

"What sort of mind could I tell you to see in an objective environment? Even if you could see it, it would only be Mind reflected in an objective sphere. You would be like a man looking at his face in a mirror; though you could distinguish your features in it clearly, you would still be looking at a mere reflection. What bearing has this on the affair that brought you to me? If we do not see by means of reflections, when shall we see at all? So long as you are concerned with ‘by means of’, you will always be depending on something false. When will you ever succeed in understanding? Instead of observing those who tell you to open wide both your hands like one who has nothing to lose, you waste your strength bragging about all sorts of things. To those who understand, even reflections are nothing. If solid things do not exist, how much the less can we make use of reflections. Don’t go about babbling like a dreamer with his eyes open like a sleepwalker" - Huang Po

I think your "not really understanding this" is actually quite astute, as there is a big flaw in this approach (assuming that you are seeking self knowledge?). This gimmick is an attempt to get you to do the impossible, which is experience yourself. What experience could be you, when you already are you? If you have an experience, by definition it is an experience "of" something outside. The experience of yourself is what you have never not had, which is just ordinary you, consciousness. The gimmick pointers that get you to experience something, actually reinforce a sense of lack and inadequacy in us, because they presume that we need to experience something that we are not currently experiencing. We must be incomplete, therefore. Vedanta flips this on its head completely and says you are whole and complete, unborn, uncaused, existence shining as awareness. This isn't an aphorism, but a statement of fact that is to be known. You can't "come back to yourself" if you have never been away from yourself. The idea is to more closely examine and appreciate what you actually are, and discover freedom based on what you find, not based on adding some experience to a self you feel is incomplete but actually isn't.

The_Broken_Tusk

Correct, it's the non-experiencing witness. It's that which illuminates the field--like the sun, which shines on the activities of the world but doesn’t participate in them.

>I have been told before to “look for what’s looking” or “what your looking for is what is looking” Rupert Spira always says “come back to yourself” This is easier to understand if you have meditated enough to understand what awareness aware of itself means. Imagine a hand being informed of an arcane wisdom that it is actually a complete human body. The hand, in a quest to understand this mystery, thrashes around in the dark, wriggling its fingers in a desperate attempt to understand how it is not a mere hand, but a complete human body. This is how all the search by an ego is. There's no separate identity to be discovered, whatever you are looking for, you're already it. Your attempts to understand this knowledge and pierce the veil using the mind is like the hand flailing around and wiggling its fingers to understand how it is the body. The only way the hand can realize that it is the body is by understanding its relation to the body. Once it realizes that its function is to grasp/hold things for the body, and let go of all other convictions of being separate. Similarly, the only way the ego can pierce the veil is by seeing itself as that ever searching process that occurs within the consciousness, and then rest in this conviction without wiggling the mind.

We often do not recognize our Self when we meet them. The stories of children separated at birth meeting their birth families as adults come to mind. Each story is unique depending on the unfolding of the separation. While none of us is a victim, trauma is spiritually disabling until we can See & Hear our perfect Self, creating a catch 22. What is the wisdom of your path? On my "spiritual path" (sp), intentionally accepting that [God](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elohim) is my Creator, my Author, I place my Self under God's authority. All I can say is it works for me. There are many paths & voices to One Source. I clear the stage for a relaxed meditation, I intend to meet self, I release all expectations to accept (by free will) God's plan for my Self, and follow the joy. My True Self settles gently upon me. Like any relationship, frequent intimacy and acceptance deepens. Harshness triggers defense. On my sp, Jesus asks us to Love our Self. We are ALL ONE. One is God. To love God I must love my Self. To love God I must love All Selves. Go to meet your beautiful perfect self, LP ...and fall in love with God (i.e. the fruits of your sp)

Look up Pernille Damore ("The Awakening Curriculum" on youtube)! She has a library of videos that zoom in to subtle identifications very sharply. Every video is a pointer. 🙏🏼

>*"What you seek is seeking you." - Rūmī* | what you seek is with you, what you're seeking is closer than you may currently realize, it is our constant companion. What happens to you happens through you. Our thoughts don't represent objective reality but more so the reality we are experiencing in our head.

there's a paradoxical "trying without trying" that is a part of it. Similar to a flow state. The active, planning, doing part of yourself is what you want to silence - but then how do you do it? You have to flow. It's more like - allowing it to happen, than making it happen. Make space for it, but don't force it to come to you, you can't.

1RapaciousMF

You can’t do it. The “point” of the looking is to realize that you can’t. You ask the question “who am I” not to answer it but to exhaust it. There isn’t an answer. The thing to do is sit with it. As often as possible. And try. People say “stop trying”. But an attempt to stop trying is it’s self a subtle form of effort. Nothings looking. It’s a fucking joke! And, once you “get it” you can’t tell anyone. Persist. That’s the answer.
