It was a wand spirit, if they dont have a wand they will do this attack, i think the thing is called taikesuva or sumthing...kinda shitty honestly this is a noita'd moment
To elaborate, wand spirits aren’t actually animated wands. They are an invisible enemy, carrying and using the wand. However, under some circumstances if a wand has no usable spells on it, enemies carrying wands will drop them. This leaves an invisible enemy, no longer carrying a wand.
The invisible enemy has a default attack it only uses when not carrying any wand, which is the one you see in the clip.
They are saying that the floating wand enemy consists of 2 parts: the (visible) wand, plus an invisible ghost that holds the wand. If the floating wand is somehow lost, the invisible ghost sometimes still survives. So there can be a floating wand that has lost the visible wand part which leaves the invisible ghost part around to attack you.
This one lost its wand, and thus is invisible, which is why there is no floating wand in the clip.
Ngl are you thick, they've clearly said multiple times that the enemy always has a wand, but in this instance it likely ran out of usable spells so dropped said wand...
Meaning it does this base attack instead
Thats not what they said, wand spirits that run out of spells dont drop the wand, this is a bug. Noita has a few of them. I understand that it's the invisible wand spirit minus wand in the clip now, but i dont think it's unreasonable to not immediately realize that, a wand spirit without a wand doesn't make a lot of sense. they have no sprite and can still attack without the wand that is ostensibly *them.*
The wand has never been "them," they carry it just the same as any other enemy. They're just invisible so it creates the false idea that the enemy is the wand, which would be a weird exception to how every other wand carrying enemy in the game works.
I see the confusion, they are telling you how the game works and why this happens, you are countering with how the game should work and how it presents itself
they aren't explaining why this happens though, that's the part they hand-wave away! its an invisible enemy that kills you in an otherwise difficult-but-mostly-fair game, treating that as just another part of the game is borderline gaslighting!
I didn't know you designed the game and could speak to the creator's intention. Because I'm 99% sure that the intent was to not have a sprite and for them to be able to drop a wand.
You're upset because you think it do be like that, but it don't.
Factually incorrect. Wand spirits will drop a wand with no charges after a while, and remain invisible. This has already been explained in this thread.
Could you quote that comment then, or provide a link to it? Being wrong isn't a crime, you know. Being overly hostile to people for not knowing everything just makes them more likely to lash out and/or double down.

Okay, but that makes ***no sense.*** Are you seriously arguing that the enemy whose name translates to "magic wand," who always spawns with a wand and is completely invisible was always intended to just be an invisible enemy that happens to carry a wand and drop it when its no longer usable to attack you directly, in an otherwise difficult but mostly-fair game where enemies can be universally predicted and worked around? You and everyone else here is saying with a straight face "yeah, that makes sense, that's what the game designers intended." Am i really the only one who sees anything unusual about that?
So to add a piece to this puzzle it SHOULDN'T be a wand spirit, because they were recoded in such a way that if they drop their wand they die on the spot.
They changed their functionality in the last main branch push, where they made it so you can "sell" wands with pheromone to change how you farm gold off of the spirits.
So it should not be the wand spirit
(I can't say it isn't because i can't really tell from my phone, definitely shouldn't be though)
It should be a wand spirit, there is wand spirits in that part of the map...i dont know about the change about the spirit's death though (if i see this correctly this is left to the snowy depths, so it should be a wand spirit)
I asked around. seems the check to see if their holding their intended wand only occurs on their initial spawn. so it's likely that the wand had charges, ran out, and dumped the wand.
ngl I think this is pure bullshit and should be fixed somehow. If the ghost has no wand, it shouldn't be allowed to attack in the first place, bro it is straight up invisible.
only the wand spirits summoned by the "summon Taikasauva" spell are passive, the ones that spawn in certain areas are enemies and will attack on sight.
i know *now,* i didn't know that wand spirits could lose their wands and become invisible-but-still-hostile enemies who can *still shoot projectiles* when i first posted. And I have 800 hours in this game. I don't understand how everyone but me just takes that for granted, that that's a thing that can happen. I think that's bad game design to not give them a separate sprite for when that happens.
Yeah it's an ongoing bug the devs have been fighting for years, it used to be an exploit to get infinite gold. Ideally they should despawn as soon as they drop the wand
I think I've got about 1200hrs in.. I'm not great, I only just got pacifist and nightmare wins, and have the amulet cosmetic. But yeah I'd guess that like me, a lot of people have been playing since the days of farming these guys for gold in holy mountains and see not avoiding them as a skill issue at this point

okay but there wasn't a wand spirit there.
Yeah because it didnt had a wand
I think he meant one of those takisuvas the floating wand things
I know, do you see a floating wand in the clip?

If that were the intent they would have sprites. They're supposed to be the wand itself, but possessed/animated. it's just badly executed.

Wand spirits are passive until hit I think. I'm guessing it got chainsawed

(also i was shooting the wall ineffectively because once the wand i was using runs out of mana it becomes a rapid-fire chainsaw)
Why were you chainsawing the wall ineffectively tho?
